The only thing I don't like is that the auto focus is really loud, but that's okay. My shot is set before I start filming. All in all, this is a great lens and I'm glad I purchased it.
Great images and great review! My most favorite focal length is 135mm and with my D300 I'm set without spending an arm and a leg. And what a blast I can have with my older Nikon film cameras at 90mm!! Thanks!!
I watched some reviews of this lens and your review convinced me to purchase this lens. I use two "ancient" cameras, (Nikon D50 & Nikon D300), so this lens is a 135mm on the crop sensor. It fits my needs if I want a portrait shot or up close shot of flowers, etc.
There are several versions of this lens. First off don’t assume the current version (VR) is the same lense as it’s a different design altogether. The earliest version is actually one of tamrons last adaptall manual focus lenses, where you can buy separate mounts for the lense for different camera systems (72b). From there the 72e, 172e and the last of this lens formula debut around 2004 and 2008, in the 272e. Not much in the way of differences (cosmetic) from 72e (1996) to 172e (1999) (D) but the 272e was a (Di -digitally integrated with updated coatings to reduce sensor reflections, and the 272e apparently came in early (screw drive) and late models as the later version had an internal focus motor (like Nikon af-s). All of these versions are excellent IQ wise for close up or portrait work. Just trying to clarify the history of this very capable lens. I have the 272e that was produced after 2008 that has the internal focus motor, and love the sharpness of this lens.
Is the Tamron 90mm 2.8 SP Di Macro compatible with Nikon Z series in autofocus (with the FTZ adapter)? I understand that it has an internal non-ultrasonic motor. What can you tell me?
I love doing macro, and seeing the textures I can't see with my naked eys. This lens has been on my wish list for a while, but finally broke down and ordered one. Currently, my best macro lens is a Tamron 103A, which I paid $3 for and is beat to hell and can't focus to infinity, and I don't really have a good portrait lens. My boyfriend needed some portrait work done so he'd have a nice one for his Director headshot, and I realized I didn't have a great portrait lens. This looks like it'll do a great job for both use cases :)

I got mine to under 200 bux a few months ago. I never knew this is a portrait lens! The question is.... How will it do for landscapes? I am very curious on how this will stack up against the 10-20mm.

Yes, any scratches, cracks, etc will effect the quality of the image. Mold? that is bad, it will spread internally and you will never get it out. Also more than likely it has had water inside. The lens quality is pretty much more important than the camera body.
Hi, on your product photos, did you have to focus stack? I have this lens and struggle to get enough of the object in focus as the lens has such a shallow depth of field.
