    We do a lot of hay. We did a demo with a v rake and the leaf retention of alfalfa is way better and you let it dry tedded out then bale behind the rake.

    I Tedder my hay then use a 10 wheel V rake with a kicker wheel in the rear so all hay has been turned. V rakes are much faster and saves time. Which make the difference when rain is headed your way. Or pop up showers in the mid afternoon on hot days. No time to waste.

    Your wheel rakes need the Kicker wheels on the centre of rake so all hay is raked. In your video the wheel rake isn’t raking hay under your swaths. I have a wheel rake with the 2 kicker wheels for inside and that makes a nicer swath and all hay has been lifted.

    correct me if I'm wrong. the wheel rake you make one pass to make the windrow. but with tthe 12 foot rotary you would go there and back to cover the same area? so how is anybody saving time or fuel baling behind the rotary rake?.

    Rotary rakes can't take any abuse wheel rakes can take the abuse I own a kuhn wheel rake for 8 years 250 acres year and I only had to send $175.00 in maintenance we owned a pottinger rotary rake dad tapped a fence post cost us $800 dollars in damage and with having tedders now the hay is already dry so wheel rake all the way

      I like and use a wheel rake . Bought a almost new 10 wheel V speed rake 2 years ago haven't had to spend a dime on it except to grease it.

      Repaired some Krone rotary rakes that's been banged on rocky fields. The center axle had been bent on them and since the farmers continue the gears got eaten up due to the play becoming too big. So needed to change gears and center axle. Not cheap.

    I have Hesston 3972 that we bought new. Has cost maybe 200 in repairs over the last 20 or so years. I doubt the powered rake will provide that kind of value. We rake at 9-10 mph. Wheel takes are very gentle on the leaves.

    As a French farmer who live in a Rotary rake country and after use it for 20 years i will never buy one anymore, wheel rakes are much better for keeping leaves on the legumes and we spend less money on fuel and maintenance.

    I like the rotary rakes but the wheel rakes get the job done a a third of the cost.

    Does a rotary rake pick up stones?

    Can you pull a rotary rack and round baler at one time

    • @bugmouthready529
      @bugmouthready529 2 роки тому

      Not a single rotary as the baler would need to be towed offset which would pull at the rake. Maybe a double rotary that leaves a centred windrow? I have seen it done with wheel rakes though

    First off why are there so many streaks of poorly cut hay in a field being demonstrated? Second, that wheel rake isnt being run right, as in half the clips your leaving hay behind on the edges. Plus, why not make a narrower windrow and pickup more hay at the same time, as a square baler would prefer. I dont buy that the "roped" windrow doesnt dry just as fast, especially if it was taller and narrower like it could be. Finally rotary rakes have so many moving parts, they are the parts mans dream. Only an implement dealer would like a rotary rake. Id take a side delivery rake over a rotary rake!

      What brand is yours? If it's adjusted properly or a good brand rake with a lot of tines/arms that fields should be CLEAN. Rotary rakes will pick up everything easily.

      @@TheMCD1989 new holland 254. even inn the videos of new and different brands they leave too much behind in their sales videos. We went back over a 8 acre field the next day after trying every adjustment and speed and got 9 more round bales with a old new holland bar rake. Bought a 3 pointold ford bar rake the next week and we are selling that 254 pos

      @@whineysnowflake8072 those 254s aren't exactly what I would call a rotary rake, that's a haybob. Those things are meant to rake or ted and do a poor job at both. Try a real rotary rake, one that is newer technology than that 254 and set it up right and you'll be blown away. Q Kuhn 4221, Krone 42T, Claas 370T any of those will rake a clean field there aren't enough arms/teeth on a 254 to compare to a real rotary rake. Not trying to be a dink but those 254s and the old haybob we're meant to be one of those jack of all trade things that were bad at everything and good at none, I'd agree with selling it for sure because a well maintained 256 or 258 will run circles around one.

      you have to slow down. same thing happened to me. we bought a kuhn rotary rake and i was missing a bunch, i thought i was doing something wrong. then i noticed that all of the rotary rake demo videos the tractors were going a lot slower than i was. i slowed down and now it doesn't miss a lick! p.s. they are going to fast in this video, you can see the missed hay in the field 1:52
