This song is a fucking masterpiece. People who compose this music leave me in awe that the can channel/create this incredible music. It's transformative and, if there's such a word, transportative in that it takes me to a much deeper and magical world.
Great song, as it always was. Beth Orton is utterly hypnotic, mesmerising, captivating. There's something about her eyes and her velvet voice - she never fails to transport me to a higher plane of consciousness, borne away from the travails and mundanity of daily life, helped of course by the warm, enveloping, transcendental acoustical landscapes William paints. Who needs drugs to get high... all I need is this song. Meanwhile, I am struck by the realisation that Beth is nearly old enough to be my mother, yet I still fancy her all the same, even now... and from the pics I've seen, she's hardly aged in two decades since the Strange Cargo era. Oh, if only I hadn't been four years old at the time of this gig...
Was at this gig - WO still seemed like the cognoscenti’s secret at this point - my word did he go on to even greater things... what a talent. Beth did alright too...
And you start swimming and swimming And swimming and swimming And you never stop swimming until you reach the ocean And you're swimming into the sunset without me And I find myself suddenly waking up And there are four young girls Giving me water from a vine leaf Just dropping it onto my tongue Nothing more You surround me Break on through Release me Nothing more......
Please tell us where this was performed!! Absolute masterpiece...no one left anything on the?? that nite. Im so blessed my children take the time to appreciate the genius Willy &all the talent he encompasses&may i say 'nurtures'. We all know exactly where we were when this song played.... climbing the coastal pass(hwy 26) from home to meet Badens daddy, Motshwari Obopile@#12 in Rockaway Beach, Oregon. Turn our children/loved ones/perfect strangers onto the magic that is music folks!!
I hope we don't have to wait until William Orbit's dead before he gets the accolades he deserves. He is a true genius, and a criminally unknown one at that. he prodiuced Madonna's only masterpiece, and then suffered from severe depression. So sad, but he's doing much better
Beth’s chanteuse drone voice is incredible. Like Nico in “All Tomorrow’s Parties.” Orton decimates this song. She creates the atmosphere that encompasses the repetition in lyrics. It’s so damn good. Like epically good. Kudos to Orbit for creating just the right circumstances for excellence. As he has always done. Great musicians, great consistency, incredibly good cohesion of sound. Especially for 1995. It’s almost difficult to imagine this was 30 years ago next year. 🤯🤯🍄🟫🍄🟫 To have been at this show…. Wonder if there are other video archive performances of WFAVL that exist with Beth singing. She’s just so damn good. Bravo. Legend. 5:19
this is such an original piece of music, not to mention this performance! (!!) we are so lucky to experience this! through time! and space... perfection and artistic "ecstasy" -- being for the work as it is being made ... performed ..the rest of the world does not exist... amazing, really... true art...
Nice, i had the privilege to do quite a bit of live acts, unfortunately not William Orbit, only Alva Noto, Ryuichi Sakamoto, etc :) Those cracks are probably from crash cymbal hitting mic stand.
An experience that I cannot explain. Draws me in and draws me out and just keeping going in a circle, I always end up at the beginning which has no end. Mind blowing,Mystical,They tapped into something not from our time. Could it the past or the future?….Or both I have entered the “ Twilight Zone”
Thank you so much for this video! I have had such a hard time finding live video from this GENIUS. I am trying to gather more videos to make a playlist of William Orbit and I will make sure that in my description that you get credit for uploading this obscure footage. When I finish it I will let you know so we can share! If you like Orbit, you will more than likely appreciate AIR, come to my channel & check out my AIR playlist. Take care. BIG Thankx again! ~pamela
If anything, he's overplaying it. Too many flashy fills and rolls, especially towards the end. There's a drum cover on Phil Minal's channel (if it's not live yet, it'll be coming out in the next couple of days) which is rather more understated...
Hi what show was this from.? Awesome thanks, saw WO twice in the day? And have most of Beth’s and WO s albums. What a time for music, still goes on. All love Namaste
I don't hate it and I am a big fan of both William Orbit and Beth Orton. However... in this performance Beth Orton is in some parts of the song singing slightly out of tune. I am only mentioning this because I experience real physical pain in my head and guts listening to someone not hitting the perfect note ( I hate that about myself but I can't help it ) That is the reason I never go to live performances. If someone can relate please enlighten me about why I get that experience.
Beautiful live version of one of my favorite songs ever!

I am so glad to have found this after so many years of LOVING this song. I actually felt tears welling up. This is so incredible!
It's a masterpiece what a combination 😁😊
Release me . . .
I would love to see this live today with both Beth Orton and William Orbit!!! 😭😭😭
William Orbit is without doubt one of this country's greatest unsung artists
They have the same last name.
@@masterofmen7438 no they don't... Orton and Orbit aren't the same thing. He's actually called William Wainwright, anyway.
is it possible? hmmmmmm... stars aligning
Amazing version of an amazing song. Gives me flashbacks from all the acid I took in the 90s

@@jerryross3438 thanks! Unfortunately, Beth banned me from her Facebook page over a polite political disagreement... hey ho!
This is on my play list for long rides out. This track takes me back in time, and it will never sound old or dated.
I love UA-cam and the internet so much. A chance to see truly great music that I missed out on seeing when it was released and/or "hot". Thanks!

God bless the uploader of this video. You reached freaking sainthood !
Nice one, I'd never heard this live before. It's great when a bedroom genius takes music live, Banco de Gaia live band was banging !
"Bedroom music" indeed... good one.
My goodness ! The live performance is as good as if not better than the album studio version.
just pure, raw emotion. Orbit and Orton are geniuses.
Gives me goosebumps...every time.
Who were the backing band musicians? Really top notch players!
just discovered this live version in 2018!
You are 4 years ahead of me LOL.. What a find !! : )

When this track broke in 1994, we played the hell out of it at The Zone in Downtown Beaumont!
Was it 94? Shoot, man.

Hi have had this album for many years and its awesome to see this live performance. GREAT!"
What an awesome performance. Thanks for posting.
AMBIENT music LIVE with the young Beth Orton on the mic! LEGENDARY! 🔥
