Hi Anna, I watched this video, took notes and listened as if my life depended on it😁...I have always enjoyed mixed media but unlike a lot of people, I do have a lot of different products, but really haven't a clue how to put a composition together, I absolutely love love LOVE this type of art, but like you said, you can have everything you need, but unless you know how to put your design together, it looks like you just threw a bunch of things on a surface, another thing is I am not very good how to put colors together...I have a sister that is a professional artist and she tries to give me some tips, but at the same time, its hard for her to give me advice on art that she's not into... I have made several mixed media art projects and my husband has made a little gallery for me in our TV room, he's my number one fan😅 Thank you again for such a wonderful video, you are extremely gifted and talented, looking forward to seeing more of your videos.❣️🤗💖
In the beginning I wanted EVERYTHING!! However, I knew I didn't want 2 waste money 4 practice items. FIRST, I bought a color wheel, craft acrylics, looked on line & found how 2 DIY my decopage, gesso (black & white), texture paste, alcohol sprays, shimmer sprays or paints mixed with $store shimmer eye shadow. I also created my own stencils & stamps. I made my own flowers (I still do), rusted my own embellishments, used things around the house, cut pics out of good magazines, old jewelry, buttons, fabric from old tablecloths, drapes, shirts etc from thrift stores. I used cereal boxes/cardboard covered with gesso for the substrate (base of art piece). In the beginning I didn't buy much until I mastered any of the skills. I slowly built up & bought my items on sale. I didn't invest in anything until I researched different products. knew I was ready 2 show or sell my art. Understanding the artist verbage is important. Can u believe this? I didn't even know what, opaque or fussy cutting was! BTW the understanding the color wheel will save u a lot if problems. U can see & utilize different colors by buying yellow, blue & red, white & black. Always write down exactly how much paint u used 2 create each color u do. Have fun. I hope this was helpful.🤗
I was recently at a scrapbook event in NZ and got speaking to another attendee. She suggested that I watch you (Finnabair). I'm so grateful for this beginner video - thank you so much for putting this up for us.
Thank you so so much for this class. This was the best mixed media beginner class I have seen. You are an excellent teacher. Your insight and way of teaching is helpful, encouraging and inspirational. It is a blessing to me to be able to watch a free class and learn valuable and applicable information. Thank you so much!
Anna, soooo GRATEFUL for who you are! For those of us who can't afford to take lots of art classes, you are BLESSING!!! I'm so happy to learn from you, get inspired again and learn NEW THINGS. This video was especially helpful in getting started as a mixed media/altered artist! Keep up the GOOD WORK!!
This is hands down one of the best intro to mixed media videos I've ever seen. Thank you for helping people prioritize what they need, why they need it, and then, how to expand their choices later. Absolutely clear and comprehensive, easy to understand and honest! I really enjoyed this and will probably need to view it a few times to get everything out of it. Thank you!
Thank you, for having this class. You answered many questions that I have as a beginner. You’ve given me knowledge in that researching products and educators are most important when deciding on products and classes. Another important aspect is quality matters and not all products are needed for a beginner. I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos from you and your design team💕
Substrate advice is the very best info to give to a beginner!!! I wish i had known that $$$$ ago. Best intro art class i have ever watched or attended. Thank you
Just came across your videos. Wish I'd seen this one a long time ago, would have saved me money and started me out buying only the important things first . So many supplies, can be overwhelming to know what to buy. Really enjoying your videos! 😊
Great great great video. I learned so much, You helped me with some new and interesting ideas. Thank you. Thank you for all of your hard work and creativity. ❤🎉
thanks for the video, It was really usefull and interesting. I would like to see a video for inspiration for really begginers because I have some materials but I dont know how to begin.
You are really a great teacher, thank you. May I ask what to use after the product is finished. Does one varnish or wax it and if so, what type of varnish or wax?
most of the products used are really permanent, therefore they don't need any extra finishing. The exception may be home decor objects people touch a lot like boxes - you can put a coat of water-based varnish on the acrylic paints or clear wax over wax products :)
Thank you Anna for this you have given me the confidence to start making mixed media projects you are such a amazing inspirational person I love your projects they are always beautiful and stunning!
