How do you guys not bleed from those stabs? Or do you?
@@loganriling4888 If you look closely, they are wearing armors
Yes I wondered because I saw at least one blow clearly went under the rim of the helm on the guy wearing the coat of plates, and it looked hard enough to pierce chain mail.
@@gerryleb8575 That's why we sometimes use these safe weapon simulators.

You can easily find a Lucerne hammer at the Catacombs when you reach Firelink Shrine, though beware of skeletons!

"Stay safe and dont kill your training partners."
thank you for the pro tip dequitem, maybe now I'll be able to face the same opponent more than once
I also had to learn it first.
I like that there’s no 5 minute intro no annoying background music and no flamboyant bullshit you often see on tv this felt real like the man in red truly won the fight for his life
Somewhere some useless person is stealing this content and making a short right now. And you know what shorts sound like...
The wind haul, the location, the rattle of armor and the merciless blows. For me, even the name "Lucerne Hammer" has some medieval poetic ring. Very well done, hope the aches and pains were quick to heal. Thanks, we all appreciate the effort. Hope some movie producer will snatch you, with the appropriate pay.
I hope too.
You can put me on the stand in Nuremberg and call me a grammar Na*i but it's "howl" not "haul"

Daggers. No matter what weapon you start out with, in the end every armored duel comes down to grappling and daggers.
Around 50 % end in close combat with daggers, but you are in most cases injured before and the grappling can be more difficult.
@@dequitem Some of those hits looked pretty hardcore, it might have been a different tune if the Hammer had a metal head.
@@MrGabol100 exactly its easy to tank a strike from a 1kg hard plastik weapon in armor but not that easy if its 2,5 kg spiky steel.

How did the castle builders know you were going to have a knight fight in 2024? It was very thoughtful of them to think years ahead and build it for you!

I like your fighting videos much more than anyone else on UA-cam because you introduce a dark atmosphere into your videos with a cold image filter. It could even be a Black Metal video clip.

Here I am, living in Lucerne (Lozärn!) with a great view of the city wall, watching this outstanding video!
dude I was wincing on every hit, this shocked me like no horror movie ever could because the stakes are real! great stuff. wow!!!!
This looks awesome i can't believe red didn't remember about gravity after a grab but it made the video longer id love to be able to do this
Wow that was brutal and i enjoy every second of it! Also the camera view is 10/10!!
So happy to see this channel grow, I was surprised when I first found it to see few subscriber and now at over 100K, I believe you'll be at over a million by early next year.
🙌
I don't think so but I would be happy if I can make 200K!
@@dequitem I've seen it before. You're on the right track!
Imagine the sound of a Thousand Knights fighting at the same time...
That's why the English used full clamshell plate even on their arms & legs. Mail voiders are heavy & can get caught on things, but there are still times when you need armour everywhere.
"dont kill your training partner" proceeds to kill training partner
That finisher was brutal goddamn. I hope the guy in red didn’t have any permanent injuries, cause that must’ve hurt.
Damn, reenactments don’t get any more realistic than this! I fought for years in the SCA using swords, maces, pole arms, etc., made from reinforced rattan and any solid hit HURT! I cannot envision what a full-contact blow from a metal weapon… even if blunted…would feel like. Kudos to the skill and bravery of those men.
Wow, this duel must have brought back some fond memories for the ghosts of the castle 👻.
I love your content these fights are so well done and the information you provide is top notch. I showed a buddy i fence with and he is baffled no one gets seriously injured. If i was a betting man i would bet the day after is probably a bit rough haha
Genuine layman's question: how do you do this safely while aiming to bypass the very armour that protects you?
Hard rubber heads
@@afistfulfett7526 But the poleaxes and daggers would still be quite stiff ain't it? I suppose you just have to be extremely careful with thrusting?
i'm pretty sure they use some form of extra protection for those areas, i only say that because of the fact that in previous videos one of them went for the eyes and in the comments he stated they had protection for those too.
Safe is a relative term, fights like these will always have a risk of injury that is only minimized by armor, blunted tips and skill with the weapon.
He said in the comments on another video that he's broken a few bones in fights.
The lucerne hammer, an elegant weapon, for a more civilised age!
I can't believe that nobody gets hurt, this looks brutal.
That was very well done! Very impressive!
I like to believe that knights could hear that from the afterlife.
Wie immer ein spannendes Fest für die Augen...und Ohren...Geräuschkulisse erinnert an die Verfilmung ..Nosferatu Fantom der Nacht...( die mit Klaus Kinski )
The reality of how such matches would go down makes most Hollywood depictions look tame by comparison.
Is that an optical illusion or did you guys have fake blood prepared? There looks to be a small pool of red near the fallen knight where the "killing" blow was delivered. Excellent fight as always. You put a lot of work and production value in your training and equipment; it clearly shows here. Stay safe
No I didn't have fake blood. That's the back of my Targe near my armpit. It has red leather on the back side.
need to remenber the dagers...I always forget thers a small pointy end somewere in there
It was the only duel out of 4 with a dagger fight at the end, but it was epic and I want to share it. You know. I love dagger fights!
You guys are the best. I always love your videos. I swear I don't know you guys stay friends after some of these hits.
We stay friends because of these. Sparring will make you friends!
Fun fact: here in the American Midwest, there’s a store called Jewel-Osco, and the name of their in-house dairy products is Lucerne

A "safe training tool"? I would not feel safe getting hit like those guys. That is real commitment on their part. Real men. Both of them.
Cool, people finally fighting to the death for content
Cinematic as always, I watch this the 5th time and it is still cool
Daaaaw they're snuggling at the end, must be french knights

I love that it looks like two tincans trying to open each other.
Great video, with wind howling, and a mercyless fight.
Like often with a duel fight, and heavy armour, it ends on the ground with daggers.

half sword:the movie.
Could you explain how production is like for these videos? How many people are involved to record a fight like this? Does it take the help of others to put on the armors?
Also I think this is your best fight yet, so fast-paced yet realistic
It's only us two. We dress each other before the fight. I place my cameras, sometimes fly a drone around the location and than we record 3 to 5 duels. Before each duel a have to place the viewers out of my camera angles. At home I cut some parts and connect some fight scenes. Make the sound designed editing stuff and color grading. In the end it's all by me and my fencing partner. We don't have help. UA-cam pay shit and I don't have much money!

So what are those hammer heads made out of? I love this channel so much but I need some clarification. Are the weapons made less than lethal or is armor just that effective?
Find a link to the weapon simulators in the video description. It's hard plastic.
Those spikes looked almost sharp! Were they blunter than they looked, or are you guys just careful not to use those in the wrong way?

How much does strength, size and weight affect? Is a squat man a better armoured fighter? Is a tall man a better armoured fighter?
Beijing tall and strong can mack you better in a fight of course.
How would you rate a swordhammer sample of which is in one of the museums, it has a guard and a sword hilt, but is a two-handed hammer, is such a weapon good in a duel with and without armor?
Not that practical, there are more functional weapons like some duels words with a blunt blade and only a spear tip, but a spiky crossguard.
Please a video showing montante fights and its dangerings and tecniques.like you did for the best melee weapon.
Afterr that perhaps you could do the same but with danish bearded axe (or the heaviest two handed axe)
Too interesting, the bilhook, longsword, and short lance duels.
Perhaps another with oriental vs occidental weapons. Katana vs longsword, two handed vs two handed weapons, his "kind of oriental mangual"vs occidental, lance (wusu)vs lance, etc
Mayby I start with the montante. Your list is a quest for a full year.
@@dequitem too could be interesting parries with buckler,or other shields, and how attack armor protections, for example puncturing armor joints with the top of the blade, or smashing flat parts (arm protections, or top flat helmet, ) with a smashing/puncturing weapon such like a warhammer or spiked club
how about sledge hammer in armor fighting?
I want that armar❤
He ragdolled.

[Raises hand] I have a question...
Since no weapon seems really effective against late medieval plate armor, and combat between knights so equipped seems to always descend to grappling with daggers regardless of what they are otherwise equipped with, why bother with other weapons? The armor allows the knight to quickly close inside the effective range of polearms anyways. Why not just close with your opponent and use the advantage of empty hands to control them until you get an opportunity with your dagger? Dancing around each other flailing at them with a stick doesn't seem to work. Why not skip that part?
Because it isn't the case. A dagger is normal less powerfully than a polearm and you can't defend yourself very effective. It's also much more likely that both die a horrible death from to many dagger injuries. With polearms and swords doubles are less likely!
Dagger doubling
You can probably land a safe hit to a weak spot like visor slit, groin, or armpit at range with your polearm or sword with out risk of your opponent landing a hit like that at the same time
But once you are grappling with daggers then you have a high chance of just killing each other
Snails. Hard shelling, soft inside. After watching a ton of crap on the platform, always refreshing to see some living history.
Yes...The spear, Lucernhammer...It matters who has the dagger.
Sometimes yes!!!
I have a question for Dequitem: I noticed most of your duels are roughly 1-2 minutes long, and generally the person surrenders the fight with a fake death (or is it). I can understand this for a cinematography perspective but - how long would you believe an actual medieval duel lasted?
15 seconds to 90 seconds.

Larp 🤨
Did you guys ever receive actual injuries when filming these videos, it seem those weapons could easily stab if poked in the right gaps
Yes. Some broken bones and many bruises.
