I cant understand why there is a market for this yet no company sells accurate stuff. Every single member has to build their own costume?! That is a deal killer for me. I've built a really nice Stormtrooper themed Jeep and wanted to join my local garrison and give back to the community. Was hoping to offer the Stormtrooper XJ (jeep) for the charity/community/children's events that they do to give back. But I do not have the time to build a costume, let alone acquire the skills to build a costume then build it. Got too many irons in the fire. Wish they had honorary members or at least somebody you could pay to make you an "authorized" suit
Old comment, but I feel like part of the fun is building your own suit. Its cool to see how each one is customized and unique, and it seems like thats part of the magic. That being said, you can find plenty of used helmets and costumes online. Etsy has a lot of pre made costumes with or without paint

The issue is that even the really good ones dont seem to be "up to par" for the 501st here in GA. You know what’s funny, I bought a set of armour from the 501st and painted it exact. I then applied and I was told the armour wasn’t good enough. I told them I bought if from them and they kept telling me I didn’t. I even proved it then they banned me. Won’t be joining the 501st again ever.
Decide which costume you want to do and then sign up for the detachment of the character you want to do. The "detachments" are the character-specific web sites we have set up where you can find armor vendors and all the info on how to put it all together. You can find the list of detachments here: www.501st.com/resources.php And stay FAR AWAY from Ebay, Amazon, Etsy or any other web site that claims to make approvable armor. Almost all are scams or sell complete junk. You want to stay away from buying completed/ mass produced costumes. Just about all, even the expensive officially licensed ones, are very inaccurate and very poor quality. Plus, hard armor is not "1 size fits all" and you want to build your costume to fit your body type. Often times our members will sell their old costumes they don't want anymore. If you go that route and buy one, you want to make sure that the seller is close to your body type. But even then, you might still have to make some modifications. Also, keep in mind that this is an expensive hobby. Expect to pay anywhere from $300 to $5,000 USD, depending on the costume.
@@bandit8436 etsy doesn't produce the best quality. That's why we have vetted people to buy costume parts from. Feel free to join and become a vetted vendor, but we strongly discourage members from buying off etsy, and 3D printed material isn't usually a better choice.

Selling the costumes has potential legal issues since the characters are property of Lucasfilm.

Not true at all. If a member is removed then there is a reason. Unless this is over a specific case, that's the general answer.
