LUCIE. Okay, thank you for listing all of these amazing options and promoting a more eco friendly and sustainable lifestyle...BUT you NEED to mention that the most sustainable thing you can do is use up all of the products you currently own before replacing them....if you have plastic Tupperware that still works perfectly fine, don’t throw it away to replace it with glass or something else. Don’t throw away packages of plastic straws or cling wrap...use it up. Use up what you have and then replace it with a better option.
Rachel D I was about to point this out with the mattress!
Yes, I totally agree!
I guess it depends a little on if you want to have a healthier lifestyle and feel that there is a risk with using plastic to keep your food. OR if you want to save the environment and therefore use up what you have, including plastic.
I wanted to get all the plastic out of my home so I instead donated all of my plastic Tupperware and replaced with glass immediately!!! But either option sounds good to me
Rachel D yes thank you I was just going to say that too
Those are great tips! However, do not forget one thing: use things that you already have! It is not sustainable at all to buy new glass containers if you already have plastic Tupperware. Yes, I know, we all want to have those fancy eco friendly items. But if we do already have a not-as-sustainable option in our home, it makes more sense to keep using it instead of throwing it away. Because only once we throw those things away, they become trash and end up in our oceans.
the one reason I didn't like the video is that she makes it look like you have to buy all these shiny new things, when in reality, the most sustainable and zero waste way is to reach for what you already have. Theres no need to buy a "shopping pack" for going to bulk stores, you can use the jars and bags you already have.
Azalecita Ikr! The thing that triggers me the most in those videos are bamboo to go cutlery. WE ALL HAVE CUTLERY AT HOME so just use that 🤷🏻♀️😂
@@Isabella-de7kv While it's true that it's a better option to use the stainless steel ones you have at home rather than buy new ones, I use the bamboo cutlery when I travel, especially on flights since I am not allowed to bring steel cutlery. Other than that steel cutlery makes more sense
Over the past few years, I think the biggest change I’ve made in general is buying less stuff, and sourcing things used when I can. Saves times, money and the environment. :)
Great tips! One switch, for me, is using a bamboo toothbrush rather than a plastic one! 👍🌎
#2 - remember to check that your essential oils are safe for your pets before using them!
And a lot of essential oils are not food grade so look for that when using any in toothpaste
Imagine the big change we could name if we did all this. Keep inspiring Lucy!
Your videos are awesome Lucie and it's great that you're talking about such an important topic to your followers! As others have mentioned though it would have been better to have stressed that you don't have to buy new things to be more eco-friendly ... use your plastic tupperware to store wires etc so you're not just throwing it out, buy glass containers second hand. Also would have been great to hear options for sustainably getting rid of your old mattress (rather than it just going to landfill)
thanks for starting an important conversation :)
Polyvinyl chloride is a polymer, which does not contain the harmful to human health monomer: vinyl chloride. The reason as to why there is no vinyl chloride left in PVC, is because vinyl chloride is a gas at standard temperature and pressure. As a chemical engineer, I can say that PVC is not harmful to human health.
Do a video of 5 days of cooking at home only💕
I love the strawsss! 😍 It’s such a simple way to make a difference in this world! 🌎✨
Omggg thank you so much for promoting sustainable lifestyle. You have no idea how happy it makes me seeing people who are outside the sustainable niche promoting sustainable living, and show how they are trying to do it. You are setting an example for so many people. So Thank you so much Lucie!
I’ve been so overwhelmed trying to figure out how to have a more sustainable daily routine, and this really makes it seems so simple! I can’t wait to start phasing out my wasteful products and household items and phasing in sustainable, reusable alternatives.
What about using/buying used/2nd hand clothes??
Maria Velasco yesss working on a video about this!
Thanks for using your platform to discuss such an important matter 🤗🤗🤗
Yay this looks so awesome!!!
can you please turn the closed captions option on? Thanks!!
Wow, good to know. I have been watching for about a year now and let me tell you, MY LIFE HAS TRULY CHANGED!! Keep making more videos Lucie! Thanks!

Yeah yeah !! I’m so happy about this video ! 😍
I started a plant obsession 2 months ago and people ask me why I started collecting plants. I honestly think it was because i watched your video and then after that summer rain oaks video got recommended now I have a jungle in my bedroom lol
Thank you! Man, I have a lot of things to change!
SO GOOD! You are amazing 💕
wow that spray bottle is so cool!
YESSS LUCIE!!! 💙💚
Awesome video Lucie!
Please do more of these I love it
I love your videos so much you are such an inspiration to me ilysm
AWW THANK YOU!
I'm slowly making changes in my own bedroom as I'm currently renting and not living by myself so I can't change the whole house but at least I can change what I can when it comes to my own bedroom and myself personally 😁
So inspiring! I’ve been watching your videos on this topic and saw Lauren Singer on the Today Show - I’m ready to make some changes! I love the idea of plants to offset the gasses.
Any tips on how to recycle existing furniture and mattresses?
Love it! Just remember to use what you have FIRST! Then when it’s time to replace it you can find a more sustainable version. But throwing everything out is not sustainable at all ✌️💚
Love these videos! Do you think you could talk about the books you’ve read and the podcasts you’ve listened to? I’m having a hard time finding good ones
I absolutely loved this video! Thanks so much for sharing and my favourite was the reusable pad and menstrual cups because all the women out there can easily make the switch and make a difference!
Careful with the baking soda in DIY toothpaste! it can wear down the enamel on your teeth :/
I love this video! I'm trying to find more ways to incorporate eco friendly living into my life too :)
Glowing, Lucie 😍 Love your passion in clean living❤️ Have you tried the kansa wand?✨
Yay! Soon-to-be a JHU grad!!! Love the growing low-waste community :)
Hopefully I can get the vegan letter monk manuals ☺️ I like using the soy candle. I think it's definitely inventive because you don't really think about something being bad for you when it smells good.
Here's an eco friendly tip. When you bee's wax wraps begin to not work as well, you can simply grate up bee's wax and mix a touch of jojoba oil and recoat your wraps before composting. They can actually last years if you are will to put in some maintenance work.
Another tip try making a bamboo straw! First grab a skinny straw size stem of bamboo , then cut them into pieces and sand them until they are smooth, next take a tool and push the stuff inside of the straw out. If you are sure your bamboo does not have ANY chemicals sprayed on it you can put it in the dishwasher, if your bamboo does have some stuff around it NOT pesticides then you can boil it to wash it all off. There you go you made a straw that is not damaging our environment now go out there and make some for your friends and family or workplace, they make great gifts too!😊😊
as a sustainable content creator this is an incredible message :) love it
I was wondering if you could do 5 days of self diffidence. Thank you for these great tips it was so helpful, so glad you do the UA-cam videoing there are so many people you help and I am one.
Love you and your videos!! These are all great tips! I wish I could get the mattress, but they use latex :( Keep on being you!
Love this! I found organic compostable straws at Wal-Mart that work if you don't like the metallic taste from the reusable ones.
or glass straws
i love your videos💕
yayyyy!!!
Thanks for sharing! Be careful when using or recommending essential oils for diffusing or applying to the body. Not all of them are suitable for kids, pets, & adults. Lavender & tea tree oil can be harmful to males (ie hormone disruption) and they could grow breasts. Each person should check with their doctor and/ or natural path. Also, beware when using metal straws in warm/ hot liquids ( same goes for metal thermos or bottles) as they can leach out harmful chemicals. Better to use glass or ceramic containers or biodegradable straws.🙂
Great video! I've been doing some of these for a w&
thank you!!
Metal safety razors are great too. Lasts a life time
Beyond Interesting - Thank You. Enjoy the rest of Your weekend and Just Stay You : )
Amazing! I'm on a journey to learning health and wellness and eco friendly. I'm reading books, listing to health podcast and reading articles and researching a lot! My lifestyle is slowly transitioning in to organic everything. I just got a snake plant! :)
New Subscriber with bell!
Thanks for the video! I use flameless candles with rechargeable batteries instead of real candles to produce less waste. They look and feel like real candles minus the scent, but I am happy with them.
Here’s something I’m confused about. Why should I get rid of my plastic straws, spray bottles, etc. when they work perfectly fine? I’m concerned about putting them back into the environment before they should be. If that makes sense?
Rachael Gonzales you don’t have to throw everything away! You can just phase them out so you still get all the use out of them. When you need a replacement (eg when you run out of straws) then you can go out and buy the reusable version. That way you get the full life out of your product but you still reduce your waste in the long run :)
Love lavender
I really like you Tipps. Now I also want to life organic
Do you use all of these tips?? That’s amazing
greta thunberg and you should totally collab because if u work on the enviroment in your home than that is a good place to start to fight Global warming. Love you so much xx laura
Wonderful Lucie! I love these types of videos. Can you name the books you’ve read
I love your videos and you vids on refinery 29
thank you!! :)
I tell everyone about candles and they all roll eyes at me which is very annoying
this is soo helpful since my family and me are no trying to be more eco-friendly
wow I'm so grateful! thank you for sharing and good luck with the swap outs!!
Soo early, hi!!!
hiiii
Where are your pajamas from? They're so cute!
Beautiful video 🌎🌍🌏🌱🎋🌱🍃🌾🌵
what books have you read and what podcasts have you listened to that helped you become more knowledgeable about sustainability?
A ton of the podcasts I listen to talk about the benefits of choosing organic options, whether it be your food or your mattress. Things like "The Ultimate Health Podcast," "The Wellness Mama Podcast," "The Mind Body Green Podcast," and "The Model Health Show"! A recent book I read specifically about the benefits of an organic mattress (and some of these home adjustment tips) is called Sleep Smarter by Shawn Stevenson!!! I hope that's helpful!
Just watch UA-camvideos about it.....there are so much
Where can I find that blue glass spray bottle with the different measurements on it?
Quite a lot of plastic wrapping for an organic, eco-friendly matress
I think mattresses in a box need to be wrapped in plastic because if it happens to get wet somehow during transit, it would ruin the mattress! I recycled it all
Cant avoid that shit hun
No kidding
how did you recycle that plastic?
Well I watched wondering if I would learn anything and I did ! My place is temporary so I won’t get a new mattress yet but definitely will once settle. Otherwise I’m already doing all of these !!
yayyyy :) so happy you learned! thanks for coming by!
Lucie Fink always Lucy always :)
WORKIN TOWARDS IT. HOPE I WILL GET BETTER, LOVE YOU LuBug...............
yayyyy!!! YOU WILL!
Hey! can you link the books you have read on this topic? thanks!!
How to make less garbage? Throw out your old matress and buy new one :P
But the rest of the tips are usefull. That part about plastic and hormones is true. Plastic can cause PCOS syndrome for example.
This one is similar to using reusable sanitary towels, parents can get reusable nappies/diapers, or towelling nappies as they used to be called I think. I know my science teacher mentioned using them. If you can get natural fabric ones, they're probably a lot more breathable than synthetic materials so it might help with preventing nappy rash but don't quote me on that.
In the us do they not know that you can keep a compost bin at home then the council they come an collect it from the bin outside it’s a system we have in the uk u do t have to keep it in a freezer and take it anywhere
A natural febreze is half vodka half water in a spray bottle
Please what podcast do you recommend?
What podcast do you recommend for making these changes? I already do a lot of these but I am always wanting to know more xx thanks
These are my favorite health podcasts and many episodes touch on sustainable swap-outs! "The Ultimate Health Podcast," "The Wellness Mama Podcast," "The Mind Body Green Podcast," and "The Model Health Show"
Awesome. I will be checking these out. Thank you Lucie
Question: What do we do with the plastic containers, that are still usable, that we need to replace?
keep using it until you can't anymore then buy substantial ones.
Hey lucy love the vedios... xx safia
90 per cent advert, 5 per cent instructions on how to subscribe and hit the bell button, 5 per cent actual content
I think Lucie would be that cool hippie mom don’t u think
Is the mattress memory foam?
So what would I do with my plastic Tupperware and the other things that are not "sustainable /eco-friendly" aren't these just going to end up in the garbage or somewhere bad? I totally support being eco-friendly etc, I just always wonder what do with that stuff... I also use a lot of cotton-pads for my face so I recently bought some reusable ones on Amazon! :)
there are recycling programs you can use to 'dispose' of them safely (so they can be turned into something new!), OR you can give them away / donate them to people who need them and don't have the luxury of choosing glass vs. plastic!
The most sustainable option is always to use what you have for as long as possible. From someone who is graduating with a biology degree and did my senior thesis on plastic pollution and its breakdown, reusing the containers for as long as possible is the best action. If storing food in plastic is a concern for you, use glass containers (I like secondhand mason jars or repurposed glass pasta sauce jars) and you can use the plastic for organization or storage of other things. If and when the time comes for you and that plastic item to part ways: either give it to a friend who can use it, donate it (there is a concern here that the item could be thrown away by the donation center), or determine if you can recycle it properly in your area. If none of those options are available or the right choice, then throwing it away to the landfill is the last choice.
Yes, that is exactly what I plan on doing! Using things until they are no longer usable, and then moving to more sustainable options. :)
How do you clean the reusable straws?
I usually just run them through really hot water with some castille soap....OR throw them in the dishwasher last minute :)
Hannah Kohl
I imagine a small pipe cleaner would do the trick
Also, some reusable straws come with a little cleaner that kinda looks like a mini toilet brush😂
I LOVE your hair :) it’s so nice (not trying to sound creepy 😂 and if so, sorry 😂 )
Looks like later seasons of friends Rachel’s hair :)
THANK YOU haha!!!
Is there mattress biodegradable?
Thanks so much!! Though i think we still need fluoride in our toothpaste, no? Like i dont think my city puts it in the water unfortunately : /
same for me! i have found several eco-friendly "toothpaste" brands which actually formulate their toothpastes into small tabs to chew and brush with. these can contain fluoride if you find the right one! i used baking soda and coconut oil for a while but found my teeth to grow increasingly sensitive over time :(
Love this! Just wish this healthful lifestyle wasn’t so expensive
over time, most ecosensitive changes are worth it in terms of money!
Wow, ok, now I feel like I’m dying by just living in my home with all the harmful chemicals!!
Do you edit your own videos?
you don't want to use baking soda everyday on your teeth! It damages them and makes them very very sensitive
pls everyone don't trust everything you read or hear on internet always ask your dentist or doctor!
i found that out the hard way after about two and a half weeks of brushing. chewing ice was not fun :/
Where are your pjs from
They're from Summersalt!
You should use a different toothpaste because ones that have baking soda in them are too harsh to use on your teeth everyday
Dang, this video is chock full of product placement!
It's an affiliate shop, what else can you expect? Remember, when you are reducing no one is making money except you.
Don’t waste something just cause ur getting the reusable ones use them till they break
Did you just put vinegar on a granite counter top? I thought that was a no no
I think you can see how to make it on Avasva . This is just an advice ;)
hi lucie! please reply!my mom and dad have an online business called bella luna luz and they have all organic soy candles and all organic essential oils! maybe you could consider to buy things from there and see how you like it! please give it a shot! they work really hard on it!
