I accidentally stumbled on the Ha Giang thing and saw your vid. Very nice narrative from the perspective of an overseas Vietnamese. Do you know the Vietnam expression "màu lúa mạ non"? It means the color of the greenish young shoots of the rice plants. It is the most iconic, idyllic, romantic, and beloved color of the Vietnam countryside. The color of the rice terrace in your video isn't quite "màu mạ non", but the sentiment you expressed would be exactly the same for a typical Vietnamese growing up among rice fields. In terms of HSV photometric, it is the color of H (hue)=0.2-0.21, Saturation=1, Value (brightness) =1. But you live in Vietnam, you must already have seen "mạ non" paddies.
Great video.. I like where you stayed and used local guides. Do they also speak English? The weather must have be great there as the one woman is in a bathing suit and shorts. The most interesting was that the community builds the house together. what a great tradition. Also, that you talked to your guides about their life and customs there. Bride kidnapping? Did they say that was done by the Hmong? Seems a little negative about a culture in their own country unless I didn’t understand. I know that has been done by foreigners for money and it probably still happening today. The countryside is beautiful and i would love to got there someday before it all changes.. thanks.
Thanks for commenting! It was actually really hot and humid. Yeah the bride kidnapping is an old Hmong custom apparently. I did some research and it's still happening today in more of a "safe" way, where it's completely consensual. But I guess she was referring to a time when it really wasn't. But bride kidnapping happens quite a bit in traditional cultures throughout Asia. Anyways, I hope you get to visit Ha Giang some day!
Very cool and interesting travelog. A refereshing change than the thousands of other bullshit Ha Giang Loop videos that all show the exact same things.

I love "Tam" when she described her dirt-floor school. She was shy at first, but became articulate and sweet when she talked.

Enjoyed this one, thanks 👍 I bet the video doesn’t do justice to seeing this in person
Absolutely not. Definitely a bucket list location
