The guy may have been a criminal, but to his son he was just "daddy"... and now he isn't.
He was a "criminal" but he wasn't hurting anyone. He was no threat to anyone truly besides Light. Light broke his rule again because it suited his own needs.. =/
The "criminal" was Aiber, the con artist L hired to help infiltrate Yotsuba.
@@CrazeeAdam Well, saying he wasn't hurting anyone is stretching it; He wasn't hurting people as he was working under L, but he was a career conman. Conmen tend to hurt people, financially if not physically!

I find it interesting in ep 1, he was hesitant, even adamant on not killing folks he directly knew (the high-school bully classmates), but in this one he immediately killed off any contacts he's met (the theif, con man, and the other business CEO dude)

@@someoneelse5209 Nah, I got the point of the comment, but I totally misremembered Light’s motivation in ep 1. The comment above reminded me that Light’s reasoning for not killing the bully was different from what I thought.

What I thought was interesting was that when L was testing light a while back he asked Light if he would succeed him. And light basically said the exact same plan that he would end up going through with, he said that’s what Ryuzaki (L) was thinking would happen. Is that Light would regain his memory, kill L and take his place as the new L while being able to command the police. Even Matsuda says “Ryuzaki said it himself, you would be capable of succeeding him”
But conveniently forgot the part where L said he would succeed him after successfully killing him..which ended up happening.
This is why Light asked them who should be L. He let THEM walk him into it. He even argued against it and they only pushed back even more on why he SHOULD be. So they would never consider that Light would kill L then become L if it was THEIR idea for him to be L in the first place (or so they think). That's why he misses L cause he wouldn't have let that slide.
Light couldn't wait to be Kira again so he could get another montage of him using a Death Note.
I really think that Light didn’t think about “then what?” I don’t know if Light expected L to be dead so soon. I like to think he’d miss the challenge

I think the part that irks me the most is how nonchalant Light is about killing Wedy and Aiber. Sure, they were criminals, but just like with L, he interacted with them and they helped each other, and he doesn't even feel anything as he kills them. We've known since episode 1 Light is capable of being incredibly cruel, but it just reaches new heights with L's death.
He killed law enforcement that were after him and L, so I see no reason why he'd have any inhibitions about killing them. He also told Rem to give the Death Note to a greedy person, so he indirectly killed innocent people. It has literally never been about justice for Light; it's always been about satisfying his ego.
@@andrewli6606 well no. I mean he higuchi only used it to eliminate other business rivals and let's be honest I seriously doubt any of them were innocent. Also he does still stick by his idea of justice and to him anyone who tries to stop him is helping criminals. Not saying he's right but to say he doesn't care about justice would be a bit dishonest. You are somewhat right though cause if it was just about justice then he wouldn't make it a religion.Two things can be true at once, that he cares about justice AND wants to satisfy his ego.
I'm surprised Aiber gave out his real name? Then again I guess Misa has the eyes. But if the task force tries to ever contact Wedy and Aiber again to find out they both died of heart attacks only to have interacted with the task force, Light would be placed under more sus. Or maybe they were already popular known criminals
@@theunbearables Well like L said they both have never been caught so they wouldn't be well known, as for heart attacks besides Aiber who is a bit more uncertain Weby essentially died from a motorcycle accident so it's slightly more of a less obvious thing, as for contacting them again it's not like the task force has the money to employ them and they (namely the Chief) already had reservations about using criminals so unless they just happenstance to read their names in the obituaries it's rather unlikely they'd even know
@@IraessRanzaI presume they're reading the obituaries to monitor sus kira deaths, but I can see how they'd miss it since Aiber seems to not be of japan nationality and maybe they overlooked the motorcycle incident if they did see it.
fun fact: in the manga L dies half way through the series, it really speaks to the pacing of post episode 25

my theory with L having the text fail-safe was that he told the person that if he dies whoever is pretending to be him is Kira. I always found it weird that L told Light to pretend to be him if he died like it was basically giving the person that L suspected to be Kira exactly what he wanted. but is it was just to feed into Kira's ego and make him feel like he won and is now safe and now he's given a massive clue to whoever L really wanted to replace him.
I find the ideas in this last arc of the show really fascinating, with Kira basically becoming a cult leader on a global level, and discovering that L has successors who Light wasn't able to account for.
I'm so overjoyed people are heavily requesting Code Geass after Death Note. It was such a classic during it's time but died down after many years and has been forgotten now. It's so difficult to get reaction channels to react to it because it's always beaten by newer shows. So glad this channel has a experienced anime following that's recommending good stuff.
FACTS!!! When they asked for recommendations I was one of like 2 or 3 ppl recommending CG. To see CG getting so much love now makes me so happy to know others love it as much as I do. 🙌🏼☺️ #AllHailLelouch

Matsuda isn't suspect he just want's to be a hero like Chief Yagami and he does think that Kira is evil and want's to end the deaths he just also brings up the very good point that all crime and wars have now ended and asks if that should be taken into account
Matsuda believes in extrajudicial execution of major criminals, and I like that they established that detail.

I feel like it’s not as bad as most people think but I’m still not a huge fan of the second part. I think it honestly would have been fine to end after episode 25 but I still don’t hate the second part. I just wish the ending was a bit more satisfying
The first time I watched it I didn't like it too, but over time I appreciated it more and more, only downside is the different ending to the manga, the manga ending had more impact for me.

2nd part was pretty good! Just not the same without L and not as good. Still, very enjoyable. I wish the ending wasn't changed. I liked the manga's ending more.

That's nice I've never in all my time rewatching the series noticed, when Lights deleting the data there's the sound of a long beep, kinda reminiscent of a heart monitor flatlining, signifying Ls death

I just realized, when he killed the burgler and the conman hires, no one knew of their existence except for the task force. So if the task force ever tried to check up on them and found out they died of heart attacks, Light is screweeed. On the other hand if he let them live, maybe they would have told people light was the head suspect, but since they're mercenaries maybe not at the same time.
Two things:
1. Please watch Code Geass. It's another short series where even the handful of filler episodes serve a purpose.
2. I know you're much further ahead, but L didn't go to a school. They said in the newspaper that Watari used his money to open orphanages with his name, Wammy. This is where he finds L, shown in episode 25.

Tomorrow is going to be a Pilot episode right? Super hyped. I hope it's either chainsaw man or Code Geass that's chosen. Chainsaw man is only 12 episodes so you'll be done in just over 2 months. Code Geass is a masterpiece that shouldn't be missed. Attack on titan, Deathnote, Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood, Code Geass and Vindland Saga are all top 10 anime

I always saw L as superior to Light. Light was no slouch but Montana said it best. L started with a blank puzzle. I never made that connection before. Lights would have eventually killed L either with eyes himself or most like Misa somehow. But light pretty much hit the lottery with Rem. The odds of a Shinigami developing such strong feelings for a human that puts herself in danger so easily. Let alone two of them doing it was like L getting hit by multiple bolts of lightning in the same spot.

I wouldn't doubt that the stress Light's father was going through, was aging him somethin' _fierce._ Especially considering this takes place in japan, where their work ethic borders on self-destructive neurosis. Add to that, the possibility that his son could've killed more people than some _wars._ Under _his_ jurisdiction. Behind his back, _in his own home._
Unironically one of my favorite episodes: peak "darkest ending" and also Light's Victory Lap. No loose ends left behind, no witness left alive. I love it

I don't quite understand why you assumed that the place at the end of the episode was a school. Wammy's house really does not seem like a name for a school. Combined with the knowledge that Watari was an inventor that founded a bunch of orphanages around the world, it is safe to assume it's an orphanage. Probably a special one for gifted kids.
There is a deleted scene I think from this episode check it out after you finish the series if you want.

I think it's perfectly realistic Light has plenty of people to call up to be his friends. He is attractive, athletic, smart - people that don't like him probably want him as a connection plus he is so manipulative he can make each person feel like he cares & knows them in ways no one else can.

I hope Vindland Saga wins a poll. I cannot explain how amazing the storyline is right now. It's work of art. Anime's own literature. It will definitely surpass AOT and Fmab once it's done. The manga is a written masterpiece
Hi, i know you guys already watched fma:b but i really would recommend fma 2003 - the plots completely diverge and while it is not manga accurate i think it is a very compelling story in it's own right. I understand this is a pretty unpopular opinion but i think that it's such a shame that fma 03 is being lost to time. The other major issue of course is there is currently no legal way to watch it 🥲 - this is more trying to get the good word out there than anything lol. I've been loving these death note reactions!!

Matsuda, being honest that even good people can consider the actions of & understand the logic of Kira, is not a fan boy.
Iam really looking forward to code geass. Interestingly Code geass becomes actuality better in the second part, while with Death Note its the opposite and it kinda erodes some of the initial pillars of the show.

As a dub hater, Death Note's English dub is one of the greatest achievements of mankind. But, it's not perfect. It can't. No dub can ever be.

Translates literally to "I throw away my pride", but it's simply the way you'd phrase something like "I reject the accusation that I'm {adjective}" or much more casually and less aggressively "nah mate, I'm not {adjective}". It's just the default way of phrasing this sort of negation. It's perfectly natural.
And "suteru" is a word that is almost always used in this exact context. It's not really the word you use when you throw away trash or something, it's more so the _metaphorical_ idea of casting something away.
And _also,_ the English loadword puraido (pride) was used here, but there's a tiny nuance of a difference in Japanese. It just fits the specific circumstances better.
