  • While waiting to film in the nursery at Lola Ya Bonobo sanctuary near Kinshasa, D.R.C. Bombo a baby bonobo decides to jump onto me off of his care-taker mama's back. I hold him while he eats a banana, and he watches himself on my iphone while I videotape him. This contact was safe because I had undergone a quarantine period after arrival in the country and did not have viruses which could be passed on to him and potentially threaten his health. Visitors to the sanctuary do not normally handle the orphaned bonobos, only qualified staff.

Aww, you're so lucky! These beautiful Bonobo cousins of ours are very neglected. I just turned 50 and also just recently learned about Bonobos. I had never even heard of them!! Can you believe that? Why are these animals so neglected??? It's unbelievable to me.

Omg, after the baby jumped on her and the lady didn’t know if she should hold him or not I wouldn’t have been worried about it I just would’ve been happy and then when the two looked at each other it look like the baby boy wanted to give her a kiss and if that was me the baby when you get more than one kiss you want to get about three or four or 4000 as many as I could get it but I would love to have a job like this

ESPERANZA ,,,,,,,,,,,,I'd like to think she was invited out of the jungle and paid as women of such striking beauty are paid to model. Right away she grabs attention. If she is a kind person she would hold that attention as well.

Before assuming the worst and getting upset you should just spend the 2-3 minutes it takes to look up the location of the video. They have a website and they are on every social media platform including UA-cam. Without this orphanage/rescue and rehabilitation center Bonobos would probably be extinct by now.
These little ones have human “mothers” because their own mother was killed, often right in front of them. Sometimes they get caught in the crossfire because there is always violence of some sort in that part of Africa (the ONLY place in the world where Bonobos live in the wild. More often they are killed for “bushmeat” or to get access to the baby to sell on the black pet market. So these staff members serve as their mothers and feed them, play with them and give them tons of affection and attention. Without that close interaction bonobos can actually die from loneliness. They are extremely social creatures by nature.
The best part is they also teach them the skills their birth mother would’ve taught them so that they can actually live in the wild without being dependent on humans for food or anything else. The organization owns large sections of land where the bonobos are released and become integrated into one of the groups and thereafter can live a rich, fulfilling life as nature intended.

Yes, this plus alot of other characteristics is what seperated the chimpanzee to the bonobo.
Chimpanzees are more heiorachy like and see the world as theirs for the taking. Bonobos however are the complete oposite and would rather live within it.
Both are intelligent though, i think humans have a bit of both of these in us. We are the same tribe however.
