- War Thunder Hot Tracks is here and with it comes the Japanese ST-A3 Tank. The ST-A3 has a 6 second reload due to an autoloader and can fire HEAT-FS at 6.7 !
The Japanese ST-A3 comes with decent firepower and a good reload but it's very mediocre in pretty much every other aspect. The STA3 has very little armour for its BR. Normally that would come at the benefit of mobility, but it's also not very fast either.
The ST A3 has very poor gun handling and the zoom on the optics can be very difficult to use depending on the map and distance to the target. Overall, though... it's a decent tank and probably the best Japan has at 6.7!

After spading the Jagdtiger on and off for about a week, I'm happy with anything that is faster than brisk walking pace.
I just unlocked the Jagdtiger and in my first game i managed to take out...
the barrel and tracks of an IS-3 before my italian teammate finished him off thankfully

The Kikka is actually pretty cool, on the surface it looks just like an Me 262 copy but once you get down into the nitty-gritty of how they made it basically from photos of the Me 262 and photos of a cut-out BMW 003 engine (the one in the He 162 Volksjäger not the JuMo 004 in the Me 262) due to most of the documentation and actual blueprints being lost in transit and then them basically trying to fill in all the blanks and get everything to work, it's actually pretty impressive.
I almost just got seriously injured and you made my day odd thanks for uploading so much man. ❤️

Both the sta1,2 and type 67 have heatfs. The sta3 is basicly another type 67 with a 12mm and a 7.7. The Japanese still suffer from no armour to take hits but just enough the activate a shell. I wouldnt be surprised if it got pened by a shrapnel shell at 1.7

Edit 2: I think in this match I did a cliff dive to get away from someone only to get stuck down a hill after dying in the t95.

God I love the Kikka so much. I remember back in ye olden days when it could barely accelerate at sea level, then it got buffed with incredible acceleration and takeoff boosters. Too bad the thing is just awkwardly bad until you get that second cannon

Hey Odd, love the videos! I have an idea for one: The M46 Tiger and A2D Skyshark duo. I think this is one of the best premium lineups in the entire game, and I like it a lot. Also I won the M46 from the chest thingy XD.

Odd when in close range in aircraft you need to switch to 1st person non-cockpit view the 3rd person view has some issues as the marker is not accurate and the cockpit blocks a lot of your vision

I played 6 games of Germany 4.0 and all 6 of them had 7 or more R3 T20 in them trying to rush caps. These events make Warthunder just even more frustrating to play.
As a primary bomber player, these events are the worst.

The ST-A1 and 2 aren't abysmal in any way. They get HEAT shells with only 15mm less pen than the ST-A3.
Yes, they don't have an autoloader but you can kill anything you face thanks to the HEAT rounds, a decent to good turret traverse and 16x zoom optics for the gunner.
You can't even judge the ST-A2 if you haven't driven it. It seems like you just looked at it and thought it's probably the same thing.
It's not. The ST-A2 is about half a meter shorter than the ST-A1 which lets it turn better. It also has a raised turret which allows you to aim behind the tank.
So in short, more mobility, more maneuverability, true 360 degrees for the turret. That's quite some contrast to the ST-A1.
I do miss the .50 cal on top but overall it's a better tank than the first variant.
Well Odd, when every tank you face at 6.7 - 7.7 is designed to fight and survive you, Germany kinda does suffer a bit

What nation would you recommend for a beginner tanker?
Play the one you like the look of the most (only look at the vehicles up to about BR 4.3 as that is often where frustration sets in) then when you get frustrated by getting blown up by the same things all the time go and play those things so you learn how they work, gives perspective on if the vehicle is really strong or if you are just up against people with thousands of games under their belt that know how to play really well.
I have also found watching the kill cam of where I got shot driving those vehicles helped me learn where to shoot them more lol (watching the youtubers I like helped too as I started paying attention to where they aim at certain vehicles that I struggle against).
Can you play the British 2.7 SBAA there is no love to it 😔
More and more I think that Germany's problem around 6.7 isn't that their tanks are bad or they lack choices, it's that they don't have enough comparable, consistent, similar back up tanks to compete in drawn out matches. I see it with nations at top tier too. For instance, lets take the US: With a full 10.7 line up, you have the M1A2, M1A1, maybe ADATS, maybe LTSV, maybe M1128, and probably some sort of aircraft. Compare that to Russia who has T-72B3, T-90, T-80U, T-80B, T-72A, T-64B, T-64A, 2S6, ZSU-23-4 , and jets that can ground pound easily, or Germany who has Leopard 2A6/2A5/2A4/2k/1A5/1 A1A1/ 1 A1A1 L44/1 and of course, the G91. It just seems like the nations with multiple vehicles that fill the same roll succeed most. It's why Germany from 9.0 up works so well. All of the Leopards fill the exact same role, so losing a Leopard doesn't change much on the team. At 6.7 Germany's line up varies too much from each other to fill a consistent part of the team to preform reliably at 6.7.

Second comment for after finishing the vid. For the F2G-1, as of yesterday, it has incorrect engine values. It's 100% is around 2700 HP and WEP is 3000HP when the 100% should be 3000HP and WEP around 3200-3300HP. I'm not sure if they fixed it but just wanted to tell you if you didn't know already since your planning to make a video on it. Good luck in it, and I look forward to the vid. o7

The worst part about the ST-A tanks is that horrendous scope. I don't understand why they have to give the tank a 20x or whatever non-variable scope. Pretty sure they're not stupid, and the tank had a variable zoom IRL.

Though it pains me to admit it, the Germans do suffer in the 6.7-7.7 BR range. The problem they have is that RU251 and Leopard 1 aside, they don't have many really effective vehicles to combat the Soviets and British. At 7.0 the British have a line up of solid tanks with stabilised guns firing high pen APDS rounds. Even at 7.7 the Germans still don't have access to a stabilised gun and while the Leo has better firepower than the Centurion and Vickers MBT, its lack of armour and inability to snap shot as effectively means it tends to lose out in 1 on 1 engagements. The rest of the German line up tends to be made up of WWII tanks, which while good tanks just can't cut it at that BR. But it all evens out, 8.7 onwards is a very different story...
