I've had this very bass now for 1 year this month. I have coincedentally been playing it a TON this past week and have fallen more in love with it than ever. I LOVE using the J pickup just enough so if I pluck closer to the J pickup, I get that Jazz burp mingled in with P pickup sound ... loving it! Cheers!!!

My American standard jazz has graphite rods in the neck, I have never had to touch the truss rod in over 20 years.

Every time I hear a Fender precision performer bass being played I hear fret buzz. Almost every video. No matter who is playing. I wonder if it's these Yosemite pickups that pickup on the fret buzz.

    • @DarylWeber1

Wondering this same thing. So much fret buzz and fret noise in this video. Maybe it's how it's recorded. He seems to not be noticing it in the room, but it's obvious with headphones.

I’m sorry but I bought one of these and immediately sent it back. Yosemite pickups do not sound like the Fender P Bass pickups. The bass had sharp frets, and did not have the quality of a bass that cost $1249. And it came with a gig bag?? The neck and headstock look like plain wood. TOTALLY disappointed considering it was a Fender American. I got an American Ultra P Bass for about 700 more dollars and Im more than happy. Noiseless pickups (with real Fender P Bass sound). And it came with a molded hard shell case. The bass surpassed my expectations. Beautiful quality. Not only playing it is wonderful but just looking at it. Don’t understand why Fender created the Performer the way they did.

Damn got myself lusting after two P basses the Ventera 50s & the American performer with rosewood. My heart says Ventera 50s, my head says American performer. Help.

American performer... i’ve heard a lot of Precision Basses and this one seems to able to dial in the classics but with new pickups, you could keep up with more modern sounds. It seems to have more sparkle at the higher register when you push it up.. i think it seems to cut thru the mix better than the classic p basses.. but i haven’t tried it though...

    • @donnix768

I recently bought the Fender Vintera 50s precision bass. It has a maple fretboard, gold anodized pick guard, and a seafoam green finish. It is a great bass especially for slightly over the $1000 price point. However, it has a wide nut width of 1.75 inches and a fingerboard radius of 7.25. It also has reverse tuners and you have to take off the neck to adjust the truss rod. I like all of these vintage specs, and it is very true to a 1957-59 precision bass. The American Performer has more modern specs, like the yosemite pickups, grease bucket tone control, a 9.5 radius and a 1.625 inch width at the nut. I haven’t played the performer p bass but Im sure it is a great bass. It is always good to play both of them yourself to see. Did you end up getting one of these two bass guitars?

@@donnix768 Thanks for asking, my head prevailed! Actually I got the performer with rosewood fingerboard Arctic White! Started to turn little buttery color though. It plays great! I have some fender 9050L Flatwound on right now, taking a little while to break-in. Funny thing is I'm starting to enjoy the jazz pick-up leading the way 70% jazz. 35/40% precision pick-up. I have nothing bad to say about the greecebucket circuit/tone.
      My decision boiled down too,
1, Which one is more versatile.
2, Which one is better value for money.
3, I really wanted a bass manufactured in the USA.
Now, having said that. If my local guitar store had a Ventura in vintage blonde my decision may have been different.
The PJ configuration is kind of sweet! Got my eye on the Ultra P bass! My bass playing as to become so much better. Before I do that adventure..

@@brooksonly7337 Well, you should always try before you buy ... I recently sent back an AmProII because Fender decided on the day that bass was built that fret leveling was optional. I just 'ordered' one of these, so broke my own rule ... we'll see. I don't fuck around anymore so I'll return it if it doesn't set up to my satisfaction. Question though ... every video I've watched on this bass is full of fret buzz and frankly sounds like the instrument was not set up before the demo. Wow.... truly sad.

I played the blue performer model and the Mexican version yesterday through the same rig, and the American Performer was quite a bit better. $650 vs $1200, id go the $1200 in this case.

@@guitfiddler22 Could be so valuable if you were some more specific. I also tend to choose American Performer, yet not so sure about it being worth double the price. Your experience in playing both, and you heard smth that is not only subjectively better, should you be given them without being able to read which is which? Could it stand a blind test?

Kdmsh 15 well it sounded Much better. Played much better. And was much more inspiring to play.
