During the summer, on nights with a full moon, they put on an evening music show. People bring chairs, pack a dinner, and watch the sun set, while the full moon rises and you listen to music. It is a fantastic experience!
I went here with my mom in January. It was amazing! Drove from St. Louis to Albuquerque and all around New Mexico on a spur of the moment trip and its one I'll remember FOREVER!!
Just came back from White Sands and it was gorgeous. Like you Josh, during a hike, I found myself all alone out in the sand dunes and it felt so peaceful. And I agree that the sunset is the best I've seen in a national park. Loved the colors - pink and orange. Your video was a wonderful reminder of my time there.
Was that border patrol checkpoint still there on the 70? That was one of the weirdest things, running into a checkpoint right outside of a national park. Can't remember if it was a little north or south of the park entrance.
When I was a kid in the 50s we used to go to White Sands for picnics while we were staying in Ruidoso. We would have a fire and stay well after dark playing in the moonlight in the white sand. It was one of my favorite things to do back then. There were far fewer people then. Yes, and the sunsets were gorgeous.
Thanks Josh thanks Pops...and you said you wouldn't have a go...I think the 'yahoo' made it the best slide of the day.. thumbs up 👍 for seniors ha ha.. stunning photography as always Josh...bear in mind not everyone gets to follow in your footsteps there are some of us who are unable, cant afford it, live on the other side of the world or whatever, we just like to watch you and Pops have fun and you take such great photos and videos.. stunning sunset pics too those white sands and purple skies were amazing. cheers from Western Australia
Nice video. Thanks for sharing a lovely father and son hike in such a surrealistic beautiful place. This will be a cherished memory for the two of you.
Grew up in el paso. My father was part of the team that tested and perfected the guidance and control systems for the lunar landing model. We went many times to white sands often just a Sunday drive. My childhood memories are full of days in white sands as well as many visits to Carlsbad caverns, and Juarez. Hiking the Franklin mountains to waco tanks. Riding the tram. And Ascarity park. And broild shrimp from the Oasis drive in. While listening to Steve Crosnos .😎 let's not forget watching the filming of The Getaway and the Ever Shining Star of Texas on the side of the mountain. 😎
It’s very nice to see how father Son travel together , we always enjoy all you videos , we learn a lot from hidden Places, and you videos are quality , keep travel and enjoy
Well, we apparently went to White Sands at the wrong time of year. It was June 3rd and 113 degrees. Needless to say, we did not stay long outside of the vehicle. It was a stop off from Colorado. And we went to the giant Pistachio because of your video. It was open! Thanks for all you share. We love all your videos!
Man those of you who can enjoy your dad it’s beautiful to see someone who loves them and enjoy each other just saying since I couldn’t live that same experience i try with my daughters so enjoy! Your not too old
Nice. I'll need to add this NP to my list to visit. Great sunset. I imagine that sunrise with the mountains in the background is quite nice as well. Thanks for the video.
Such a perfectly put together video that serves as a no frills, straight down to business introduction to someone looking for information on White Sands with very less time on their hands. Kudos!
It was raining lightly from Hurricane Harold from Texas, and almost no one was there, but very magical, like walking on another planet. The 15 minute movie in the visitors center was excellent background.
Great video, you covered every question I had. We're about to take the kids there on a road trip for spring break and this provided all the info I needed to plan.
Love your videos bro your PCH video my favorite I'll be going to white sands on New years Eve so excited I'll be with my family I live in Phoenix so it a nice trip over to New Mexico
Great video! It’s been on my bucket list for some time along with Carlsbad caverns! You captured it brilliantly. It’s really great to see the nature’s play to create such a huge sand dunes! I have been to Colorado’s sand dunes, but this is magnificent 😊👍
This is amazing!!!! I couldn’t get over the beauty of this place! You’re always outdoing yourself Josh! Nice to see you guys having fun, hello Mr. Pops 👋😊 oh and yeah Josh, they’re going to start giving names to mice 🤣🤣🤣🤣
haha I am glad you like my mice comment haha. Yea it was a beautiful spot for sure, I am so glad I got to take my dad along to experience it as well and that he actually rode the sled haha.
It’s been a long time since we were there. It was mainly a drive thru and lots to explore in the center. It just doesn’t seem real and the sand( gypsum )is so fine. Good to see all they have to do now.
Went to white sands today. Just used the sleds laying around. Didn’t know about the wax. They sell it in the gift shop for three dollars, it would’ve been worth it! Next time I’ll do it right😂 thanks for the great video! I should’ve watched it before I got there😊
@@ThroughMyLens thanks for responding back, reading your reply back really made my night as I am a huge fan of your content. I have been following your videos for a long time now as I have been following your recommendations for example the trips I taken in route 66, Seattle, okc, Salton sea, Portland, death valley & Joshua tree, Santa fe, Chicago, Salt Lake city and many more. I just love how you come up with these great attractions and then add them to the flow in your videos to make the great content you do, that's what makes me love your channel so much. Look forward to future videos as I definitely will check out White Sand Dunes in the same exact order you did 😁. And by the way you and your dad make a great team ( there's nothing more rewarding then a father and son bonding moments. )
Too bad the visitor center is restricted by Covid. The museum explains the natural processes (about ten of them) that have to occur in a specific order to form the dunes. The dune field covers 275 square miles, and is the largest of only a handful of gypsum dune fields in the world. The next largest is near Carlsbad, NM, and covers only 4 square miles, so White Sands is truly a special place. Glad to see you guys enjoying it so much. I volunteered at the monument when my wife and I lived in Alamogordo for 10 years. WS is my favorite place on earth, and that's saying a lot, since I've been to several parks, including Carlsbad, Mammoth, and Wind caves, Glacier, Rocky Mountain, Arches, Badlands, and Yellowstone. I know that's far from seeing all the wonderful national parks, but it's enough to make me certain that something about those dunes is truly captivating. Thanks for sharing your fun! Oh, and if you ever go back, make sure it's mid-July. Take twice as much water as you think you'll need, along with sunscreen and a good hat, and walk onto the dunes at high noon when the temperature is 110F. You will not burn your feet! Seriously, you won't. Gypsum reflects the heat. But if you do that, be careful. While I volunteered there, a 23 year old nurse died from dehydration on the Alkali Flat Trail. The dunes are beautiful, but will quickly take your life away if you are not super careful.
Awesome, my man. We just watched a program (center of the world) on the Colorado sand dunes in SW CO. (Amazon prime video) Your videos are ALWAYS the best.
oh wow i went there July 2019 it was hot as hell, and it was still a monument, all we did was walk the bridge and drove around the road cus it was impossible to get out for more than 10 mins. Very cool to pair this up with Carlsbad Cavern and Guadalupe.
Wow. That was an excellent video! I will be there with my 18 yr old son from dec 28-30th 2022 as stop#2 of our holiday NM trip. This helped very much. Thanks to you we will do the Alkali Flats trail 1st to get the most difficult one out of the way so the rest are easy walking. I am very happy you included the sunset as sunsets are a huge part of my trips out west. What did you 2 do after park hours? Where did you stay?
Amazing vid! We’re going tomorrow for the first time and are excited. The blues of that sunset were amazing looking even in the vid. Do you think we will be ok towing our 38’ RV through this place?
Wow it’s a great trip .👍. I want to know Is it easy to find the trail they have marker or anything else when you walk on that . I concern to get lost ..
The best part is the bonding with your pops.
Will be much better once he starts traveling with his wife and child.
During the summer, on nights with a full moon, they put on an evening music show. People bring chairs, pack a dinner, and watch the sun set, while the full moon rises and you listen to music. It is a fantastic experience!
When does that start
Wow! So cool.
@elwoodmr
I didn’t know that people can play music at White Sand National Park on a full moon.
Love how you travel, and bond with your father. Simply wonderful!!! Five miles hiking in sand dunes is quite the workout.
I went here with my mom in January. It was amazing! Drove from St. Louis to Albuquerque and all around New Mexico on a spur of the moment trip and its one I'll remember FOREVER!!
That's awesome!!!
That is awesome! I should do the reverse (I live in New Mexico, want to visit Missouri-wind through the Ozark hills and then end in St. Louis).
The shades of white...
The contours...
The wind patterns...
The shadows...
The variety...
A magnificent place indeed...

11:46 That Sunset was beautiful
The silence and the sunsets are incredible! My kids asked to go back over spring break! We can’t wait!
What a great video and the sunset view at 12:06 is stunning and would make a great art photo!

Glad I could introduce you to it!
Don't forget the sunscreen.... SPF50+++ grew up going to that place.... super fun.
I have been there many times when I lived in New Mexico. The sand looks like snow. Another good one. Thanks.
I agree, the sand really does look like snow!

Perfect place to spend Earth Day 2024. Hope to visit someday!
Great vid as always. You're the best! Pops is my dream man. 🥰
Love it! Those sunset colors are amazing 🤩 What a unique place to visit 💟
Great video! Love seeing a great dad spend time with their son. My dad forgot about me at the age of 12 that bastard.
I'm glad I've found your video. Thank you for this amazing journey!
I love all about this video, I came here because tomorrow I'm going to white sands, thank you for this video
Was there in the early 70's. Really beautiful.
It was raining lightly from Hurricane Harold from Texas, and almost no one was there, but very magical, like walking on another planet. The 15 minute movie in the visitors center was excellent background.
What a fantastic place. It doesn't get much mention, to my knowledge. Dune sledding looks like great fun. Thanks for taking us along. 🌞🌅👏
Yea, I think it is still under the radar for a lot of people. It is a great park though!
You would like walking Bristlecones both groves. Really scenic from high ridges.
Great video, you covered every question I had. We're about to take the kids there on a road trip for spring break and this provided all the info I needed to plan.
Never heard nor seen white sand dunes or desert. Thanks for sharing. Looks like snow.
Always a pleasure to travel with you. It's such an enjoyable experience. Thank you so much! Appreciate it! : )
Thanks so much for traveling with us and leaving a comment!
Love your videos bro your PCH video my favorite I'll be going to white sands on New years Eve so excited I'll be with my family I live in Phoenix so it a nice trip over to New Mexico
I visited White Sands years ago, it was absolutely beautiful.
Glad you got to experience it!
Went on a girl's trip to Albuquerque NM and drove over to the White Sands and had a blast!
Pops you are in great shape! I use to play like this when I was a little girl in my country Brazil
I will let him know you said he was in great shape!
Worked there the summer of '87. Fun to see what has changed and what hasn't. Don't miss Full Moon Nights if they still have them.
Stoping there tomorrow! Looking forward to it!
That’s amazing! I’ve never heard of this place before! Thanks for posting about this insanely lovely National park

oh yes the carlsbad cavern is excellent! Definitely walk down into it and ride the elevator out.
Thanks so much for the comment. It really is worth the trip to experience this park. I have a video on Carlsbad I plan to put up next week too!
We did this last month, fun sledding, and you are right, the sunset was stunning !!!!!
Wasn't sledding such a blast? I am glad you got to see the sunset as well!
@@ThroughMyLens yes we laughed so hard climbing up that sand, but you almost have to make a path to really get going🤣 workout for sure
Delightful video and informative narration. It brought back a lot of wonderful memories of when my parents and I would go on vacation to New Mexico.

Great video from my home state of New Mexico! I haven’t been since it became an official National Park
This looks ridiculously fun. Been on our bucket list. We did go to Carlsbad and Big Bend though. 2/3 ain’t bad 😆
At least you guys got to spend a lot more time at Big Bend. We had to rush through the park unfortunately.
@@ThroughMyLens unfortunate, but now you’ve got the itch, and you’re a lot closer than us! It’s not exactly a place on the way to anywhere else.
