  • Are your seedlings beginning to outgrow their seed cell? They grow up so quickly! Within a few weeks, it is very common to go through the process. of potting up our seedlings. Not only does potting up prevent our seedlings from becoming root bound, it also provides them with more space, nutrients, and microbes to put on their next round of growth. In today's video, I take us through 5 Tips for potting up seedlings with worm castings to help them thrive and prepare for the garden. Additionally, I provide an update on each seedling both 7 and 14 days after potting up.

    Jordan, your plant babies sure are beautiful! And what a cool idea, using a Turkey baster to water seedlings, at the moment I have black sapote and naseberry seedlings, you can more better control the water given as opposed to watering them with a can or bowl and thus avoid saturating the soil, turning it to mud.Thanks for sharing, 👍and may your plant babies keep on growing good! 🍅🥒🥬

    Hi Jordan, really enjoying your videos. I've followed your seed starting instructions, worm casting seedling mix, 3"pots, heat pad and grow lights. After 7 days I am noticing what looks like moss growing on top of the worm casting seedling mix. Is this normal? Will the moss prevent the seeds from growing into plant babies?

    • @MindandSoil
      @MindandSoil  2 роки тому +1

      Hey!! Thanks so much for this note! It's definitely not uncommon for this to happen. The reason is because there is decaying organic matter, warmth, and moisture. Moss specifically grows in a moist environment so it could be a sign to maybe water a little bit less. However, during the germination stage I would not change the watering that much as the seeds need that moisture to germinate. So once everything has germinated (around Day14) two options you have are 1) decrease the watering a bit or 2) use a small fan to create some airflow through the seed starting station - this will dry them out more quickly :). But, I always have a little bit of green growing on the top of my soil :)

      @@MindandSoil Thank you for your quick response. I believe you now when you say you start your day answering questions. Speaking of...one more question, what is the liquid capacity of your turkey baster?

    worm castings can also burn the roots it really does depend on so many factors, you dont just rip down the middle separating plants like you did destroying roots, also do you factor in the cost of using grow lights when you could just use window sills at this time of year? 🙄

    • @MindandSoil
      @MindandSoil  2 роки тому

      Thanks for this! Do you have any links to videos or studies showing worm castings burning the plants? Id love to see as I've started in 100% castings without any burning but as you mentioned, a lot of that depends on the inputs!
