My Uncle used to work at the old mill back in the '90's. He used to his coworkers come in and scare us when I was younger cause we were that last ones to ride when it was about to close. Loved that ride and The Derby. Oh memories. Now Playland completely changed.
I used to work there back then also. Used to be that there were six people stationed inside the ride for safety purposes. I understand now they have security cameras instead.
I use to work in rye playland during the summer of 1982. Its a small beautiful amusement park with plenty of things to do. I had so much fun working up there. Rye NY is such a beautiful town.
I also worked there that summer of 1982 as well. I worked in Kiddie-land, I thought I was only 16, and I think you had to be older, to work in the other parts of Playland.
It's so nice to see a new generation enjoying these rides! I would go to Playland every single summer as a kid/teen during the 1980's. I can't believe the Flying Witch still looks the same as it did then, and also the Whip and the Derby Racers!! Yes those Derby horses go fast and it's so fun and scary. I was just 10 the first time I rode them in 1980 and thought i'd fall off lol. And of course the Dragon Coaster which was my first ever roller coaster ride. This was a fun walk down memory lane and i'm glad to see these old rides still running today and new generations are enjoying them. Hopefully someday i'll get to go back for one more visit.
I grew up in Southern Ct and every summer we'd go to Rye Playland; enjoyed riding the train ride and my first roller coaster, The Dragon Coaster; glad to see it's still going strong.
i grew up going to play land every summer from '50's to late 70's. I now live 3,000 mi away. A lot is the same. This was a fun trip to the past. thanks
@@TheKrystalPalace I was just thinking about this. My brother recently passed away. 54 years ago (seriously, can it be that long) my 9th grade teacher asked me if I was related someone. It was my older brother. He laughed because he said he'll never forget that, on a class trip, my brother went on the Thunderbolt ride. It starts going forward and everyone is screaming and my brother is sitting in his seat just completely stoic. It goes around and around, faster and faster, and my brother doesn't move. He said, "I swear, not a hair on his head moved." Then the ride goes backwards. He said, "Now kids are not only screaming but throwing up, and crying. And there is Steve just sitting completely stoic." He said he thought my brother had had a stroke or something. So when the kids get off, he rushes up to my brother and asks if he's okay. My brother just looked at him and said, "Yeah, that was cool," and walks away like it was nothing. Hahahahaha. I still remember the mouse ride, the house of mirrors, and the dragon coaster. So glad they're still there and that Playland is still there.
The 70’s was my time there . Playland was at its best back then . I keep posting that Westchester County needs to bring back more of the classic rides that made this park great ! The original Monster Mouse, The Spyder, The Roc-O-Planes, The Turtle Chase, The Flying Scooters , The Twister, Over the Top, and the scariest ride they ever had was The Tumbler !
Not only are very fine but got class!I am from 10573 and Playland in the early 90’s was my playground! Old man here at 41 Miss Westchester County!🙏🏼💯❤️🇵🇷
I grew up on Rickbern Street off of Dearborn Avenue in Rye. A very good friend worked in the Rye Playland Paint Shop. The NY Rangers practiced at the ice rink.
@@TheKrystalPalaceBuilt in 1928 it is an historical landmark. The movie Big and a Mariah Carey video was filmed there. The fireworks was on Wednesday and Friday nights but the Water's Edge condominiums which was originally Oakland Beach pool years ago complained so they stopped doing fireworks on Wednesday nights. I haven't been home since 2019 I live in Chelsea since my father's passing and the home was sold for my mother's continued healthcare.
Oh nice I'm glad that little troll river ride is still open I thought they were going to close it after that kid feel off the boat and died a few years ago
Ye Olde Mill is one of four rides that is on the National registry of historic places along with the Dragon Coaster, The Whip and the Grand Carousel. They needed special permission to renovate it back in 88.
We were just at Rye Playland yesterday. We try to go once a year, but the place looks like a dump after things are not open and the workers awesome of the worst. That is probably the number one reason for the decline the people who work there are not friendly at all busy talking to themselves Not friendly definitely not kid friendly one adult inside to make sure they’re doing what they’re supposed to. I’d be really surprised if they made it to 100 years. They need to take from Disneyland and hire people who actually want to do their job treat people nice instead of having a Puss on their face, talking to each other
Agreed. That was the way it was back in my time working there in the 80's-90's. The operators have to provide their own music. Would be better if the park provided music that was age appropriate.

Ye Old Mill ride scary.
Ferris wheel crazy mouse and catipiller
Generations of many have ridden Ye Olde Mill........
Yes they have!
They desperately need to clean up this park. The kids they employ playing inappropriate music at a kids park is unacceptable.

Bumper cars.
