Toyota GR Land Cruiser REVIEW!

- This is the new Toyota Land Cruiser GR Sport!
It’s an absolutely colossal 7-seater, and is the first brand-new Land Cruiser to be released in 16 years! So has it been worth the wait?
Well when it comes to the design, it’s unmistakably a Land Cruiser, with its wide body and huge grille up front. This GR Sport edition also comes with a few upgrades over the standard edition, with sporty front & rear bumpers coupled with unique alloys and GR badging both outside and in.
Step inside, and the interior is very ‘Toyota’. It’s nothing outlandish, not ugly - it’s all pretty safe. You get a number of physical buttons across the dash, and you’ll find good-quality materials throughout most of the cabin. The build quality is exceptional, and it comes with a touchscreen infotainment screen on the dash. Unfortunately, though, the system isn’t all that good. But thankfully you get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Only three engines are available, with the range-topper being a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that produces 415hp.
The Land Cruiser range starts from just over £52,000, rising all the way up to around £89,000 for this GR Sport edition. But there’s one big catch… We’re not getting it in the UK! The question is, if it were on sale here, would you choose it? Or would you pick a different 7-seater? Let us know in the COMMENTS!

The fuel cap is for security. Landcruisers are actually used by owners the correct way, which includes travelling around the world and in remote places where fuel theft happens a lot when you leave your vehicle parked somewhere. The gap in the back seats helps in the circulation of air when in hot climes, from Australia to Africa. Everything is well thought out and there for a reason, not all cosmetic. This isn’t a Range Rover which has lost its touch. They say, “The car infront is always a Toyota”, for a reason. 👍
yes, and it will go 200k and feel brand new, would love any modern range rover go 200k like that
Where did you get the information on the back seats? I'm confident they reused materials for the center console because my GX and RX both have the exact same setup.
That gap is not for air circulation. 😂 Fanboys will suck up to anything. 😂😂
Was just gonna say this about the fuel door. Unlike the tiny posh, island of Britain. Many other places around the world have issues with thieves.
@@adfasfuiuiui1056 😋 but the fuel door is to deter syphoning.
It's bigger than some living rooms I have seen. And it's turbocharged. What a time to be alive
When I was a kid, if I was asked what kind of a house I want I would've most probably said "TURBO LIVINGROOM"
@@piuthemagicman well the turbo livingroom seem legit for that.

LC 300 GR Sport is music to my ears. All that's left to do is watch Mat take this offroad. Just something about the Land Cruiser's 70-year history and design philosophy makes this a reliable ride in East Africa. Hands down, you can go anywhere with this!
Same here in Australia, we have to deal with the outback so you need a ultra reliable vehicle. This is exactly that
Si ungesema tu Kenya msee.
Great vid. We’ve had a 2001 landcruiser in Dubai for two decades, take it offroading in the desert all the time and it’s still in great shape! Beast of a car
Finally, one of my favorite 4wd's being reviewed by Mat Watson. Looking forward to an off road battle against a Land Rover Defender V8!!!
I'd like to see how a gwagen does too with off-road tires of course
Oh also, here in Australia seeing a Landcruiser 300 series is so common, but we only get the 3.3L V6 engine. It looked really weird with that livery, but Dubai is all about the looks, isn't it? Was that why Mat was wearing very posh clothing?
Defender V8 is better tho😂.
@@PneumaticFrog the Land Cruiser GR Sport imo is one of the fastest SUVs.
@@Presto_001 is in Indonesia common also?
The fuel cover thing isn't so annoying if you consider that, in some countries, bad intentioned people will try to steal fuel from your tank (and the LC has a big one)
Great video as always 😊
Rina Tennoji loves this Land Cruiser GR SPORT obviously.
Only in Afghanistan😂
People will try to steal the car instead of fuel😂
@ROLEX true the only thing people from the west steal is oil
they can put stuff like sand to mess up the engine too. better to be safe
Not what i expected from a land cruizer review, you really need graham with❤️🔥 this one
Love those analog dials and the fact that the fuel tank can't be opened from outside the car is a smart move from Toyota. I currently own a 200 series and in twenty or so years when I've worn it out, I might buy a 300 series. But I'll go for the VX and the first thing I'll do is remove those two rear seats altogether.
Hmm i own a 100 sersies and in twenty or so years when I've worn it out, I might buy a 200 series.

Since land cruiser is the face of many NGOs and the UN some features are catered for them too. like the fuel cover. Those vehicles are usually used in dangerous countries so a fuel cover that unlocks from inside is much safer than if its not
that's what I was thinking you wouldn't want that feature in hostile areas
Also to deter fuel theft, in areas where that is real issue....
It's just a Japanese thing. Kind of like those music controls on a stalk in French cars.

LC will always have my respect. They stay true to themselves and is always a timeless classic. They’re what I call old-money things. It’s old-fashioned and unapologetically chunky. For me it has that vibe that it is for the real wealthy people who has been rich since forever. Not something young-money fast-rich kiddos from tiktok would buy.

In australia these are hugely popular. there is a wait time of like 3 years between when you order one and when you get it. however they are only available in the diesel v6 option, to get the 3.5 twin turbo v6 petrol you have to upgrade to the lexus lx600 which is based on the same platform. i have to say, having driven both the diesel land cruiser and the petrol lexus, petrol is the way to go if you dont mind the extra fuel consumption
I think Australia accounts for 40% of sales...
Phenomental work! :)
I have to say I like this so Toyota it's like they've almost gone back in time for the side panels and the back obviously the front looks brand new I have to say it looks really nice
This car looked hot but wild.
They were never in the future or the present. So impossible for it to go back in time :)
No they haven't lol

A true `bullet proof ` reliable beast that will work for decades to come. This car does decades, not years!
@@martinmcdonald4207 nice decades
but already outdated by around 12 years compared to european cars
@@kristians2704 If it's still happily chucking along 12 years from now (or close tot double that like my GS 430) and have not been written off 3 times over I'm perfectly fine with that. People tent to look only at what's right in front of them and not at the long term. Toyota is one of the few brands that still builds cars with that long term in mind. A new Landy 110 writes off up to 50% of it's retail value in it's first 2 month of ownership. Given that the fancier models are almost twice the price of this GR LC you've just throw out one of them over wanting to look good at your next board meeting. Everything in the premium car market revolves around short term luxury looks or feels, not durability. Just the Toyota badge alone will turn several people (including the reviewer here) off of the car. If they had stuck a Lexus badge on it (like they did with the older 62 series)
this would have been a totally different review.

About the separately locking fuel cover door on 8:36 Toyota probably did that to prevent fuel cap theft & fuel theft by siphoning when the doors are unlocked so it's only accessible when the driver unlocks it at a petrol / gas station.
Yes, it happens.
No in uae or Middle East country’s there are people working on petrol stations to fill your car up like u don’t need to get out of the car
@@9joker985 Good that you have honest fuel attendants. Back in the day I remember my old man would sometimes get out of the car when it was being filled up to check if the fuel attendants had 'remembered' to return the fuel gas cover after it went missing. Some would forget, not sure if it was to resell it to mechanics or just out of absent mindedness.
Lame excuse for toyota being lazy.
If you are leaving your car unlocked then thats not a security problem that toyota can fix
Why is this stupid "security" explanation repeated so much? Don't leave your fuck1ng car unlocked. The push-in cap is locked automatically with the doors.

Love to see you in Dubai. Toyota is everywhere here in 🇦🇪
Toyota's tank uses a lever-type fuel filler port. The lever-type refueling port is a method of unlocking the refueling port with a wire from the driver's seat, and is said to be highly reliable.
In recent cars, the number of fuel filler openings that can be opened with one touch in conjunction with the door lock is increasing, and this is thought to be due to improvements in design and convenience. However, the lever-type fuel filler port also has its merits. For example, even if the door lock breaks down, it can be refueled, and it can be used to prevent theft.
What if the lever breaks?

The GOAT of cars. No arguments
Great review as always Matt. However there are a few factual errors that I noticed. I used to work with Toyota HQ (not a dealership) in my country.
1. It’s called Land Cruiser GR Sport and not GR Land Cruiser. BIG difference. Toyota named their real GR like the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, GR Supra, GR86 with GR in front, like BMW does with their real M cars (M2, M3, M4, M5 etc).
2. When they call it GR-Sport at the back, like Vios GR-Sport, Hilux GR-Sport, and this Land Cruiser GR-Sport, it’s not a real GR. And they are not like BMW M-Lite (M340i, M440i) like you mentioned either, but rather just a trim level, like a 430i M-Sport if you will. Only upgraded suspensions, badging, accessories like bumpers, seats etc.
Just thought I need to share this to let everyone know so that they dont say things like “oh it doesnt perform like a GR and it doesnt deserve a GR badge”. Because yeah they dont, if you would agree with the whole argument of “BMW M Sport trims/packaging doesnt deserve the M badge” either
