Our family loves your videos! Having 3 daughters myself it's great to see women such as yourself enjoying the outdoors so much and inspiring the next generation!
Thanks, Allie! I enjoyed this video and your refreshing and enthusiastic perspective of trying a tree saddle for the first time. I get so tired of the gamut of so called experienced expert males that tend to dominate the outdoor sports trying to promote and sell their products. This one shows what it's like through the eyes of an experienced hunter, but newbie saddle hunter; and not trying to sell me something. I loved it! You are fun to watch; and I thought your comments were honest, informative, pertinent, and entertaining all at the same time. It doesn't get much better than that. You won my subscription. Keep it up!
When using the saddle you set up with the tree in between you and the expected travel of the deer and ideally you want the deer travel just off the left side of the tree if your right handed so you can stand with the tree between not pushed away from it and the tree covers the motion of the draw.
Got the chills with that camera angle @16:29! That hiss and the thwack looked bad%$#, coming straight for the camera. The saddle system looks like a ton of fun:) Thanks for the review Nick and Allie! Have a awesome weekend!
G2 Outdoors I’m ordering mine tomorrow thanks to your videos I joined saddlehunter.com and the Facebook group. Not only does it look like an awesome lightweight way to hunt the Florida swamps it looks fun as hell lol
Wow!! Keeping an arrow in your boot is probably the most genius thing I’ve ever seen!! Beats fumbling around trying to get one out of my quiver. Best “unintentional “ tip I’ve seen in a long time. Thanks Allie!
Best saddle hunting review I’ve seen! Most people that talk about the system have been using it so long they skip over important information for newbies! Great video!
I’ve been watching a LOT of saddle hunting videos, and yours is one of the best, from an introductory perspective to the concept. Nice lighting too. I plan on taking up saddle hunting in the 2021 season (at 55 years old), so I want it to be safe. Thanks for the content! Loved it!
I just got my first saddle system! So far, I like it and don't like it! Just different and like you said Allie, it does take some getting used to, especially for an older guy like me! Great vid, keep them coming!
Great video! Well done! I love to see that our sisters are starting to catch the saddle wave too. I will share with my daughter to inspire her. I love my saddle, and I agree with John Eberhart's sentiment that "tree stands are archaic". I do have to find a home for my LW Assault :( After a rough day at the office, I will climb a tree in the backyard, and hang in my saddle just to unwind in the off season. I know, I should get help, but I prefer a saddle over a shrink's couch ;^) Thanks for sharing, and keep up the good work!
I’ve used a “Tree Saddle” and got a buck with a long bow! I could rest my bow arm over the strap as a deer approached and this made holding the bow for an extended time easier. I use bolts to climb a tree and a little pocket hand drill. Also my feet would rest on 3 bolts when sitting in The saddle. Very minimal equipment to haul around. After using a specific tree I could climb down and remove the bolts then hide the bolts in a plastic bag near the tree and eliminate carrying them into the woods.😁
Awesome video! Refreshing to see somebody having fun with something new and not taking themselves too seriously. If you ever get the chance, you might want to try a ring of steps (ROS). I have tried both, and find myself more comfortable shooting from a ROS.
Allie, that was a really well done and informative video. I started bow hunting back in the 70's, when, as far as I know, the first portable tree stands were just coming out. I'd met Bill Wadsworth, the founder of the National Bowhunter Education Foundation (NBEF), became a bowhunter education Instructor, and he showed us a portable platform he had designed. I started making my own portable stands back then. I'm thinking that if you had just a slightly larger platform, and you attached your carabiner to the bridge webbing instead of the bridge line, you'd be basically doing what I had done for years with a "Swiss seat" anchoring me to the tree. With the slightly bigger platform it's easier to stand and rotate 270 degrees or lean out against your anchor and shoot around the tree. Set up like Sean Kabes suggested, be patient, and you'll get the shot you want. As a, shall we say, more "mature" hunter now, I prefer ladder stands to climbers, but if I'm where I can hang my stand and leave it for the season (locked to the tree), I still have a couple of Lone Wolfs I really like. I like Wild Edge's Steppladder steps over sticks, but, hey, that's just me. Hunt safely, keep up the funtastic attitude, and keep tryin' new things. Maybe a Bushman Bows take-down longbow, for instance. Lotta great equipment and great folks out there. Enjoy!
Looks easy to pack. like You could go in the deep forest and setup in a tree fast. Maybe for a bull hunt or whatever. But for sure a easier way to hunt from a tree. Awesome review my friend 👍
The biggest advantage to this that I see for me at least is that there's no limit to how high you can go. Where is with traditional tree stands they only make them so high in order to go higher you would have to build a custom one which takes quite a bit of effort
When shooting the 6 o’clock, stand up and allow the bridge to be in front of your right shoulder (kind of like a hug). Then you lean into it. That keeps you secure and gets you a little further from the tree.
As a rock climber this seems intriguing. It's very similar gear and technique to ascending ropes. One slight negative, dedicated climbing harnesses like those made by black diamond, are much more comfortable than that barebones style harness. But they're more expensive. But it would be 10x times more comfortable to hang on a dedicated climbing harness for hours.
I gave a thumb up because watching you was sooooo entertaining. YES I shall watch this again! Think I will just sneak up on Bambi and use my Boy Scout pocket hunter. Thank you.
The leg straps should slide down into the loops, gravity makes them want to fall out. It also seems that the saddle is sitting a little high. all in all something to play around with.
When transitioning from the lineman's belt to the tether, make sure to take the weight on your tether before removing the lineman's belt. You want to make sure your tether will hold you before removing the lineman. Tight lines!
I've seen these before and always wondered how comfortable or easy they are to use. Good review! Lots of good unbiased information for someone who's never used one
Good job! Yeah first time or so can feel a bit strange, but will become second nature very quickly. Practicing in the tree at low height is a great idea. As you could tell, saddle comfort is a personal thing. I personally wear mine several inches lower and use the micro adjusters available through Tethrd to cinch the leg straps to evenly distribute my weight from top webbing, mesh saddle, and lower webbing. Also, on the weak side shot while using a platform, it can be helpful to hook your right leg around the tree. Keep it up!
I'm betting that 6 o'clock shot would be much less awkward if you weren't shooting on a flat plane like you were. Shooting at a downward angle would have smoothed out your process. Other thought, the guys from tetherd have an interesing way to do the 6 o'clock shot, put your draw arm through the gap between the tree and your tie on rope so the rope is across your chest and you can lean into the rope. The rope will rest in the crease of your shoulder where a sling backpack would. You'd need the tree line a bit higher and it would take practice but it works well.
Hi, Allie! Thank you for sharing this video on the hunting saddle! I just shared it with a good friend of mind who is really interested in buying one. I really enjoy watching your content and I look forward to seeing what you post next time! Keep up the great work!👍😊
This has so many things that can go south when weekend hunters try this with little knowledge about using safety ropes, proper knots and good sense not to fall on their broadheads.
next time when trying to shoot 6 o'clock try running your draw arm under the tether and stand up you will feel more secure with it resting over your shoulder kind of like a seat belt but doesnt get in your way of drawing back your bow for the shot
My grandma told me about how her father made phone calls. He basically did it green acres style. He had boots with spikes that allowed him to climb the telephone pole. This was before 1925. That wouldn’t work today.
All day! You can sit, adjust and lean away, there are add on backrests... You can put your head on the bridge and fall asleep. You can let go completely and hang free and not fall out. Climb up is the only dangerous part.
All day sits are not a problem once you get your set up figured out. This method does take a little practice to figure out what you like but way stealthier than a hang on
Just a swinging. At times it looked very comfortable and other times it didn't look so good. Hope you will do a follow up and from a hunting height with more obstruction like in most situations. Thanks Allie, all of your videos are good and I like your honest opinion of a product.
Get yourself an arborist saddle and 150 foot of rope, get the rope in a high branch and ascend, perfect setup. All you would need is a tag line off of the back so you didn't keep spinning.
Saddle hunting is amazing! Second year with it and will never go back! Change is hard for some but give it a chance...think you will love it once you get the saddle fit and tether height custom for you!
Thanks for the review!!! My boyfriend ordered his and trying to get me to try it too... I am still unsure... i will continue watching to see how you like it!!!
Let me know how you like it. I just ordered a kestrel flex for the up coming season and really excited. I feel it's going to change everything with my wild edge steps with a saddle.
@@OutdoorsAllie mine is supposed to be here right at our gun season so I am really excited. We hunt a 1100 acre farm and there are a few spots that you have to walk a long ways to get back where my good bucks are so it will be nice to be that light and be able to get that high off the ground. Hope you have some great success this year and fill all your tags.
Interesting video. My husband showed me saddle hunting today but I’m not too sure if it’s for me yet. But I love the pants you wearing. Can you tell me who they are by?
Allie, slide the saddle up under your butt more and you will be more comfortable and secure! It takes some practice to be able to move around the tree with confidence but once you get it there's no going back! I've been saddle hunting since 2014 and it's changed the game completely for me!
I agree practice makes perfect. Also, play with tether height, many of us prefer a lower tether. It gets easier, I can shoot a 66 inch longbow 360 from a tree that size. Good luck
I hunted out of a saddle many years ago. It's OK for some situations but I didn't like the feeling of being sucked into the tree and having sore knees. For long periods in the tree, I prefer a regular stand.
Remember the angle of the rope is throwing constant weight on your feet as you are holding yourself out away from the tree. Also the further out from perpendicular your body is it strains different muscles. It is also hard on circulation which can assist in making you cold or legs numb. Your feet will get sore after a while without proper shoes
@@OutdoorsAllie I'm new to the saddle as well. Check out videos from Saddlepalooza. Its a weekend camping/hunting trip in Georgia where saddle hunters get together to share their ideas and demo products. I went last year and I must say best camping trip of my life. Also check out saddlehunters.com tons of info on there.
I have a small tree stand that I bought years ago ( lock-on limit) does the same thing only weighs 4 pounds w/ a larger platform and a seat.. That thing looks like it would be uncomfortable for a long 3-4 hour sitting... Nice review, but I know now I don’t want one..😬
Great demo, I used to use my work belt and tree spurs... like for climbing telephone poles. The real trick is dealing with natures call once you are up in the tree.
Uhhhhh yeah…. No one talks about this. I just did what I used to do on long car rides when pregnant and brought double zip lock bags and a grocery bag to hang it in. I didn’t use it but it would have been near impossible with a harness on. I didn’t drink water… so I was okay.
@@anrenes3459 in spite of the challenges it is a very good way to hunt public land ...no stand to set up...or issues with someone borrowing the stand. Many people will walk on by never looking up. Rifle or bow hunting in the trees has been very productive over the last 25 years
I just got a saddle set up this spring. If you want a run and gun set up it's the way to go in my opinion. I don't think you showed some of the benefits very well but that's to be expected since it was the first time being up in a tree with the system. If you check out G2 Outdoors on UA-cam and also check out the Saddlehunter.com forum and FB group you'd be able to be much more efficient in the saddle. Also just takes practice like anything else in life.
Just found your videos, they are great. Hunting here in Australia is a little bit different, our gun laws are very strict. I really like this harness and your tips were great. One thing mate, don't throw carabeeners onto the ground. They are prone to hairline cracks. Not good for your health if you are at height. Love your work matey. 👍👍
I definitely can see the advantages. My question remains on comfort and possibly even muscle fatigue after 4, 5, 6 or longer hours. My thinking is if I know I'm only hitting a quick afternoon stand, that system might be superior to a tree stand. But if it rut time, I got good weather (for deer which usually means cold), I don't like coming out of the woods and can see muscle fatigue setting in which would create cramps.... Hhhmmmm.... Do like it in theory though.
Nice saddle stand. The only way I'd see a saddle stand work. You need to be brushed in good. It's not like sitting on a portable stand where you can shoot around most places.
In the late 80s, or early 90s, there were a couple similar designs. One was called "Tree Sling" and the other (????). I found the design hard on the knees and it required a ####### lot more practice shooting because it was nothing like standing on terra firma and flinging 'em.
I wondered about that product I see it advertised years ago and tree climbing kickers but it could be a problem with the small platform and blood circulation in the legs without it my Treelounge is heavy but it gave me 360° shooting and comfort and for long walks the lightest I found is a Summit Viper Elite with a mesh seat to see climbing down at 17lbs
i'm very confused, I have heard of tree saddles and known they been around for many years, but i'm confused on the platform, since your climbing, how the heck do you reach the platform and move it up as you're climbing the tree? do you go Mission Impossible style, turn and flip upside down and loosen the platform strap in order to move it up, tighten the platform strap and repeat that process till you get to where you want to be? Lol, sounds scary when you first arrive at your tree at 5am in the pitch black
@@OutdoorsAllie Ohh Hahaha okay, Wow, I actually never thought of climbing sticks, now that im picturing that, than what i first had in mind, yes lol, much much more safer........can't wait for the video!
I mean this in the nicest way possible, before making a review video you should watch The hunting public’s video because they had tethrd come and explain different shooting positions to them that would fix some of your problems.
I would use 1 in a tree that isn't like a telephone pole where I can use a large diameter branch instead of a platform. There is strap on device that acts as a step that will allow u 2 get up in the tree without pegs or sticks which is also a great stealth advantage...as long as u r an athlete.
Wild Edge Stepp Ladder, 5 of them will get u up plenty high & the pouch with all 5 only weighs 5 lbs. Since u have your strap around the tree it leaves u both hands free 2 put the straps around & fasten. Gets u up there quick & safe.
Or Instead of a second platform, you just had four to five tree steps or pegs Position 360° around the tree then you would be Mobile like a cat and your shooting Angle would improve by 180°. Platform aren’t met for saddle hunting!!! Just marketing... Great job on the shooting your going to be deadly in a saddle ones you go to steps around the tree and trash the platform. Great saddle by the way!
Great thought, Brock. For me tree steps aren't all that comfortable to put my weight on for extended periods. I've found that I can do everything from a platform more comfortably than I can from a sling and steps. My hamstrings don't enjoy it, nor do my feet. Course, I'm an older guy who has had multiple knee surgeries.... Aww, but to be young again! **WinK** Hunt safely, my Friends!
I have the Tethrd saddle and Predator Platform. I also have an Aero Hunter Kestrel saddle and a Wild Edge Perch platform. The Kestrel saddle is slightly heavier and much more comfortable IMO. Hopefully you can get your hands on one of those to try out. Both are great saddles. Light weight climbing systems are the next piece of the puzzle. We need to see you taking shots above 20 feet in a saddle. Keep practicing and you will never look back.
I really like the light weight idea, but I'm still concerned. I can see bubble control could be very difficult.. You made it look easy.. Did you have butt or leg issues/ hot spots from the straps?
They are great! You just need to use it a few times & every time you use it you will figure out different adjustments that will make it better. I don't use a platform. I figure if you're going to have that you might as well put up a stand. I just use climbing sticks. get the ones that have the step at the same spot on both sides. That way you have the same height for each foot rest. You can also use the steps that are going up in front of you to hang stuff on that you might need while hunting. You want to have one section going up that's higher than where you are going to stand. Also cut you some pool noodles the right length & put them on the step your knees rest against. Makes it real comfy! It does need to be lower. Mine feels best under my butt. Makes it more of a sitting position. The right set up & you can almost shoot 360*. Keep at it.
I don’t think a single girth hitch is enough of an anchor. Tethered needs to relook at that because if that bite loosens you could take a pretty substantial fall. Just my two cents.
I felt the same way when practicing so I locked in the bridge at the length I wanted so it’s not adjustable and I also left my lineman’s belt on just loosened. In the future I will do a safety block tie in to my extra rope instead of the lineman’s so I can move better but have two lines just in case one has give for some reason. I’m inexperienced so I don’t trust myself without two points of contacts both tight.
Saddle hunting has great stealth & ambush advantages but u better train 4 like months since u need 2 be an athlete 2 be able 2 be comfortable. If u aren't comfortable, u won't hunt as long. I like the fact that u can sneak into an area & hunt an animal in a spot that u would never get away with when using traditional hunting gear.
Looks like you had a harder time drawing than you usually do, perhaps due to a lack of support for your base. I also wonder how comfortable the saddle is where it makes contact with your body, maybe worse for a man?

I love it so far! I'm hoping to try the kestrel soon as well!
@@justinsigmon1878 Good luck out there Justin!
2:41 that spin she does 👩🏽🌪😽❤️
"Wee yah!" is my exact reaction taking my first shot out of a saddle lol!
Hahahahah
Interesting video. My husband showed me saddle hunting today but I’m not too sure if it’s for me yet. But I love the pants you wearing. Can you tell me who they are by?
Thanks for watching Renee! They are First Lite pants.
Allie, slide the saddle up under your butt more and you will be more comfortable and secure! It takes some practice to be able to move around the tree with confidence but once you get it there's no going back! I've been saddle hunting since 2014 and it's changed the game completely for me!
Thanks for the feedback!
I agree practice makes perfect. Also, play with tether height, many of us prefer a lower tether. It gets easier, I can shoot a 66 inch longbow 360 from a tree that size. Good luck
Thanks David!
is the low bicep draw a legitimate form? i've never seen anyone do that style draw in competition.
I was having some shoulder issues.
I hunted out of a saddle many years ago. It's OK for some situations but I didn't like the feeling of being sucked into the tree and having sore knees. For long periods in the tree, I prefer a regular stand.
That's why people wear knee pads when they brace their knees against the tree.
Yes, im still working out the kinks.
The trick is having the point of attachment directly one your seat like off a branch or a stand off arm.
Didn’t even know this was a thing! I learned something new! Thanks for making the video!! I appreciate YOU!
It's bad ass! This is going to be my first year using it!
Laughed out loud at this one. You are amazing.....try anything and everything hunting.......I think I’ll stick to ground hunting. 👍😊😂 Mark
Nothing wrong with that!
I’m old , think I will stick to ground hunts or regular stands . But cool idea.
Thanks for the feedback David!
Warren Womack is in his 70's and hes been rocking the saddle for a few years.
Different strokes for different folks
Great demo, I used to use my work belt and tree spurs... like for climbing telephone poles. The real trick is dealing with natures call once you are up in the tree.
hahahahahh didn't think of that one. Damn
Rifle or bow hunting in the trees has been very productive over the last 25 years
Great vid! I seriously considered a saddle system last fall. Very similar to the trapeze system on performance sailboats
Hey Allie I think 🤔 you're awesome. Love ❤️ your channel. Have a wonderful day 🙂 Ken NC
Absolutely. Thanks Brent!
Thanks for watching Jim. Much appreciated!
I have only spent about and hour in it, but i have friends that have used it for all day sits and never complained once.
keep up the great videos. I saw in the beginning you had the FOB vanes on an arrow and then later you had the blaser vanes which one do you prefer.
Im more comfortable using the blazers right now.
Nice saddle stand. The only way I'd see a saddle stand work. You need to be brushed in good. It's not like sitting on a portable stand where you can shoot around most places.
Loved this video. When you shot towards the camera I think I was worried just for a second.
LOL
Another great video...Ive been exploring this as an option to ladder and carry in stand...
Thanks for watching Ed!
I ordered one as well can't wait to try it out and get ready for this season.
Your going to love it!
Good video Allie! Would love to hear you thoughts on lower back fatigue after using it a little more...
Thanks for watching! Sat in it for about an hour not long ago without fatigue. I think I'll be adding a back brace to it as well.
You can add a strap that hangs under your armpits for back support. Quite comfortable.
In the late 80s, or early 90s, there were a couple similar designs. One was called "Tree Sling" and the other (????). I found the design hard on the knees and it required a ####### lot more practice shooting because it was nothing like standing on terra firma and flinging 'em.
Absolutely right. I will be practicing quite a bit.
Thats what Nick used last year. This is definitely much lighter.
Title should read "FIRST TIME - Hanging from tree waiting for something to shoot at". Word "hunt" is used pretty casually here :P
I can see this becoming popular. Light weight easy to set up and carry. What about the cost? I also wonder if a larger platform might be helpful.
Dale
Its a bit pricey (around 500) but should last a long time.
i'm very confused, I have heard of tree saddles and known they been around for many years, but i'm confused on the platform, since your climbing, how the heck do you reach the platform and move it up as you're climbing the tree? do you go Mission Impossible style, turn and flip upside down and loosen the platform strap in order to move it up, tighten the platform strap and repeat that process till you get to where you want to be? Lol, sounds scary when you first arrive at your tree at 5am in the pitch black
LOL Im going to use hawk helium climbing sticks.
That with the harness/lineman's belt is actually very safe and easy.
I'll make a video soon!
No offense taken! Thanks for watching.
Ok, 2yrs later. Has your opinion changed? Due you hunt from a saddle these days? I'm strongly considering a saddle set up
Nope, I still love it!
I would use 1 in a tree that isn't like a telephone pole where I can use a large diameter branch instead of a platform. There is strap on device that acts as a step that will allow u 2 get up in the tree without pegs or sticks which is also a great stealth advantage...as long as u r an athlete.
I have seen that, looks a bit complicated.
Brock lowell damn good idea
Great thought, Brock. For me tree steps aren't all that comfortable to put my weight on for extended periods. I've found that I can do everything from a platform more comfortably than I can from a sling and steps. My hamstrings don't enjoy it, nor do my feet. Course, I'm an older guy who has had multiple knee surgeries.... Aww, but to be young again! **WinK** Hunt safely, my Friends!
Great job on the Video. I just got into this myself and have high hopes for it. Keep at it and post more videos.
Thanks John!
Great demo. While I haven’t decided on whether or not I’m using a tree stand or a blind...I think the saddle is gonna’ be a pass for me.
Thanks for watching!
What kind of product is that on that one arrow? That green disk? I've been thinking about trying them for years and have forgotten what it's called.
FOB, they're interesting.
To shoot the weak side bring your bow over the bridge its easier just something to try
Yes Allie looks like you could be quite ninja with that! 0_0
LOL
Badass video that's pretty neat where did you get this at? That's better than having a climber I think
I think so as well. Search Tethrd Nation.
I really like the light weight idea, but I'm still concerned. I can see bubble control could be very difficult..
You made it look easy..
Did you have butt or leg issues/ hot spots from the straps?
Ur a nice lookin guy
@@cameron8619 I think you should stop smoking what ever you're smoking.. Lol.
I didn't, but I was only up there for an hour or so.

I would really like to see a video of you hunting using the sticks Just like to see a different Method That's all. Thanks. Appreciate your video.
I will make some more content like that soon!
Good vid please revisit after using more. The system looks useable. Knee pads make sense.
I will for sure!
Keep at it.
Phenomenal tips, thanks Darrall!
All true.
Damn, that saddle looks pretty dope. I guess the only downfall would be comfort depending on how long you're posted up waiting in the tree.
Seems like it take some getting used to, pretty bad ass though!
🤘
I’ve seen other guys stand on the platform with the bridge over their shoulder to anchor them to the tree
I like that idea!
Curious how comfortable it will be sitting for 6+ hours with no back support.
My comfort limit this season was 4-5 hours, partially because I get bored LOL. They do make a back support band that helps though.
What's the sway like for shooting? Looks like there's a decent amount of bow sway when holding shot
Didn't seem to bad, but I definitely need to practice.
@@OutdoorsAllie ahhh good! Interesting!
@@OutdoorsAllie Should definitely provide an update video in the future after you figure out the tweaks you've made for comfortability etc
I will for sure.
Good Grief! Whatta monstrosity!
I'll just stick to my Summit Open Shot, if you don't mind.
Do you have an update to this now that you’ve had a few years to test it?
Absolutely love it!
This is a good idea. I would use it But you should do a follow up and let everyone know your thoughts on being in one for long periods of time. 👍
I will for sure. Thanks Bob!
Looks like you had a harder time drawing than you usually do, perhaps due to a lack of support for your base. I also wonder how comfortable the saddle is where it makes contact with your body, maybe worse for a man?
Drawing was very easy in some situations and difficult in others.
great video guys , iv broke many bones where trees are concerned , fasten up !
For sure!
