For your first year, absolutely. The great thing about pole vault is that it isn't all about comparing or matching yourself up against others but about pushing yourself to your limits and trying to better your own marks.
i just started vaulting, and i realize how mental it really is. its a lot like rock climbing, before you do the first route, ou cant psyc yourself out or else you fess
alot of people tell me that its very good, its my first year too im a freshmen in high school. i cleared 9.6 yesterday and on monday i will clear 10 for sure.
@Gcracker1595 There are a lot of drills for learning to bend the pole. A good one is getting a smaller pole and taking it from 3 or 4 lefts approach. Emphasize pushing UP with both arms and land standing on the mat. Also do plenty of pole plants up against a wall with correct form l to really ingrain that muscle memory of pushing up and keeping your body away from the pole.
man i broke a pole a couple weeks ago a week before my regional tournament. i didnt vault all week. at regionals i borrowed a smaller pole from someone just to get a small little vault in to get my head back in the game. i still sucked but i'm glad that i vaulted again. my season ended that day. i learned to just vault cuz u'll regret it in the end.
@lriglegna Hi, its also my first year of vaulting. Im still trying to get the millions of steps down. i was wondering if you could maybe find a good video of someone in slow motion , i havent been able to find a good one. Thanks
I went 11'3" my freshman year and won conference for my school. As a sophomore (in highschool) this year, all of our seniors are gone, and it's me and my friend Joe A (11'6", Junior this year) and he and I are going to be the only varsity vaulters this year. Any tips?
See i doubt my self when i tried to jump 12.6 in my high school meet, i play football so i dont get to practice at all. I need form. Iv got 12ft with no great form. What can i do to better my form?
