This is one of my favorite Stanton Moore stickings LLRL RLRR. I created this practice loop in garage band and tried to get close to the New Orleans vibe.
Hi J. Thanks for the comment. The hands literally never changed and were always LLRL RLRR x 2 for a bar of 4 played as 16th notes (slightly swung). The bass drum moved a little but basically was on the 1 “first left), “&” of 2 (the 2nd right of the RR) and the “&” of 3 (single right). Orchestration: The last two RRs in beat 4 was moved to the Tom sometimes. The left was either on the cross stick, the high hat or that aux snare. But this is part you can experiment with. I hope this helps. Happy to answer any questions if any of this is not clear.
Thanks Rick. I appreciate the compliment. I put out videos mainly to catalog my own playing and video making progress but I’m happy to know it’s appreciated by other fellow drummers and musicians.
I incorporate THIS (inverted six stroke) WITH a six stroke roll. Adding a triplet to getcha back to the other hand. Played slowly, it sounds a bit "choppy," at a fast tempo, it POPS!!
So your doing the 6 stroke as 16ths and then adding the 16th note triplet to bring it back to the same hand? Or are you doing the 6 stroke as 16th trips followed by another triplet to bring you to the opposite hand?
Love it, you keep it deep in the pocket. Stanton would be happy
🔥🔥🔥
Noice.
# 14 & 15 in Stick Control Book. Buddy Rich also used this pattern on the snare drum only with wicked speed. Nice groove.
I need to get that book. I’m probably the only drummer who hasn’t studied it! Thank you Seven!
Very cool groove; wish you had broken it down; maybe like the guy they call That Swedish Drummer.
