With you and Seans' encouragement, I hit the road for my century early this morning. Slow, easy pacing and plenty of fueling and water. Was doing great up to the 80 mile mark then had to turn fully into the wind to get home. Like moving a mountain into the wind, but I got there! And it just happened to be the hottest day so far this year (88 deg F) so far here in Houston, TX. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Well done Bob. I had a friend from Scotland who lived in Texas for a while and told me about the very early morning rides to escape the heat. Incidentally, the headwind in the last stage of your ride is exactly what Sean will suggest avoiding in the next video!
I found the hydration info extremely helpful as I often carry to much and don’t ever get through two bottles on long rides. Knowing that there’s always a place to stop and refill.
I'm doing an organized century the last weekend of May, in 2023 though. I came up with my own training plan, and it's surprisingly close to the plan laid out here. The main difference is I don't have a soft week once in four. Going to work that in. The ride has loads of food and toilet stops along the way, and I plan to use them all, so I won't have to carry a lot.
Had a bike fitting yesterday - and it was very informative and helpful. Shop made several adjustments to my existing bike (did not have a bike fitting when I bought it - should have!) and had it ready for me this morning. First ride today went well. My targeted Century is mid-July but my training is based on these videos. Thanks for the informative and helpful videos.
That's great Bob. I hope they gave you a record of your fitting so, if you have to move stuff around, you can return it to the correct places. A paint-pen can be useful to mark positions of things like saddle (front to back)
I tend to carry plenty of tools, pumps (hand & co2) plus tubes and patches, wipes etc. plus a first aid kit as well as my food, drink and clothes so weight is quite an issue on my gravel bike rides which I’m trying to reduce but I still managed to do 75 miles on Monday so I’m well on the way to that 100 mile goal. Great videos and information guys, thank you so much.
Simon, we are on Mull 22nd June, for a few days, if your free to cycle. we are cycling from glasgow then im heading for Mallaig, then to Skye. Thanks Alex
My longest ride yet was almost 100 miles (155 km). The week after Easter I attempt two stages of 125 and 136 miles on two following days. New bike, new gear. I'm exited!
Hi Simon Just wondering what road you were riding. Is it the road between the Coran ferry and Strontian? It will settle an argument between me and my better half. Love the videos Regards John
I see no difference between them other than flavour. The exception is Precision Hydration but they are more specialist. It’s getting harder to ship things with the unknown duty to pay on arrival. Bigger issue now for us after Brexit.
Much underrated channel. You deserve more likes 👍🏻
Glad you think so Kevin - we agree
No messing about, just all made simple, clear and straightforward. great channel lads, thanks. Stay safe.
Thanks 👍 Tony

@@alwaysanotheradventure Yes, they provided a record of the fitting for future reference. Thanks for the tip re marking positions of things.
Really enjoying this series and the channel as a whole, please keep up the good work and the high quality video content 👍
Thank you Andrew, it's really appreciated.
This is top notch advice

Sounds like quite a trip! Not sure where I'll be in June but will hopefully catch up somewhere.

Excellent - it's great to challenge yourself. New bike seems to be going well Johnny
Another great vlog I get my bike Friday so hopefully be doing this program
Excellent! Hope you enjoy it Ian
Nothing beats, bananas, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and oatmeal cream pies. That’s winning nutrition.
What on earth is an Oatmeal Cream Pie? 😳
Another belter
Food and water is key, porridge is the best thing to eat before a ride, lots of sugar in it helps for high intensity 30mile rides.
Hi Simon
Just wondering what road you were riding.
Is it the road between the Coran ferry and Strontian?
It will settle an argument between me and my better half.
Love the videos

Yes, it is John. Some of the later shots were on the Acharacle to Strontian road, coming back from my vaccination
Another excellent informative video - thanks 👍 Can’t wait to get back up to Scotland for some rides.
We should be good to go in May Graham
I'm in the USA and shipping the Zero tablets is more $ than the tabs themselves. Any other brand recommendations?

Hi Sir, we want to collab with you!!! souke sports.
Hi Shawn - someone from your organisation previously emailed me. Thanks but not on this occasion.
Food doesn't weigh much on a days journey🙄😏
Two bottles people....
…who live where there are no places to top up
Two bottles for everyone. You'll be stopping every ninety minutes or so to fill up
