    I love Baohong paper. I've been hesitant to try the Artist's grade rough because their cold press has so much texture. This was VERY helpful. Also being new to watercolor, I had no idea how easy it was to tear down the sheets. Thank you so much for doing this video!

      Hi Jennifer. Thank you for your feedback and welcome to the channel. I used to use Arches Watercolor Paper exclusively. But I have come to prefer Baohong. I hope you like the rough paper!!

      @@KrisDeBruineStudio just wanted to thank you again. I've found some discontinued paper sheets. And because I know how to handle it now, I wasn't afraid to buy a ton of it. So now I can practice all I want to with larger pieces and not feel like I'm wasting money. It's been incredibly freeing and I've been able just let myself lose with intuitive painting. It brings me so much joy, I've kind of stopped caring if anyone else likes it!
      They do. But there's no fear in sharing my pieces now! And my work will only get better as I learn technical skills and basic art concepts. (I'm new to art in general, not just watercolor. )
      I know you like helping people. I really needed to locate some freedom somewhere in my life and I so appreciate you giving me the tools I needed to find it.

    Thanks for demystifying the whole process of buying large sheets of paper! I was surprised at how much cheaper it is and I love the ability to create any size you like. Great video as always, and I liked seeing the cold press vs rough comparison. Never heard of the paper company before, so I am glad to learn about another option. There’s so much to learn in the world of watercolor.

    Love this video . You explain the differences well. I,too, use arches. I use a lot of it as I am a professional artist. I do not appreciate how costly arches has become and am open to trying other papers. You have helped me make that choice easier. Thank you.

      You're welcome. Baohong also has an Academy Grade (i.e. student grade) which is even more affordable. I use that for value studies and other practice pieces....and save even more. It is definitely the BEST student grade paper I have ever used.

    very nice comparison. The rough seems smoother than I expected. definitely a good quality paper.

      Thanks for watching and leaving feedback. I have used three brands of rough texture watercolor paper - Saunders Waterford, Arches and Baohong. The Baohong seems slightly more rough than the other two brands. I used to use only cold press, but I'm starting to use rough more, because I like the texture it gives to my landscape paintings.

    Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been wanting to try Baohong W.C. paper for months now, but I wasn’t sure if it was really good quality cotton or not. Unfortunately I don’t have extra money to waste so any art supplies I buy I have to use up, even if they are bad quality. I really appreciate it when you review art supplies because it helps me make informed choices and keeps me from wasting money and being forced to use bad supplies!

    Only halfway through, but question for you. Everyone loves the deckle edge, but since it hardly ever shows in a framed piece, why "waste" even that little bit? I don't like the word waste, when it comes to supplies, but I couldn't think of one to fit the situation. So glad to hear your review of this paper, I've been wondering about it. Keep loving your videos! Do I denote a touch of sarcasm? Thank you so much.❤

      Haha. No sarcasm....I actually really do like making the videos. They are a LOT of work, but I enjoy the process. I've also found that making the videos forces me to think through my own watercolor choices and techniques. I hope you are enjoying them. Thanks for watching and leaving feedback.

      Oops. Forgot to answer the "deckled edge" question. Sometimes I give my paintings away (or even sell them) without matte or frame. It is nice to have deckled edge in that instance. Sometimes I frame them in floating frames, sandwiched between two plexiglass sheets. It is essential to have the nice edge in that instance. But, you're right if you are always matte/framing your paintings I guess it doesn't matter. Great question.

      @@KrisDeBruineStudio I adore Hahnemuhle and you can get it from Wet Paint in loose sheets, and also from a bookbinding place I discovered called Talas. Cheap Joe's is too expensive, but they have a great price on my other fave Lanaquarelle.

    Thanks, I've been wondering about the loose sheets on Amazon. I prefer them to blocks and they are so much cheaper. Does it have a watermark? You say Arches is twice the price, but FYI Dick Blick offers Arches in 5 packs for 43.90. It's gone up a bit recently but still unquestionably the cheapest way to get Arches. Shipping is free if you meet the minimum.

      Hi Jenn. Thanks for the tip about buying Arches at Blick. Honestly, I've started to focus on using Baohong. The Baohong paper is least expensive as full sheets. I buy it on Amazon. It comes in a loose roll of 10 sheets. It flattens very nicely. The sheets I bought do NOT have a watermark, which I prefer. The paper is too valuable to lose some to a watermark. :-) amzn.to/3pUFrYk

    Question, what is the imperial size? Is that different from a full size watercolor sheet?

    • @KrisDeBruineStudio
      @KrisDeBruineStudio  Рік тому

      An imperial size watercolor sheet is 30"x22". That is what is referred to as a "full size" sheet. The measurements can be slightly different from some manufacturers....but they are essentially the same.

    Is Baohong Masters Choice different from Baohong Artist grade (without "Masters Choice" label)?

    • @KrisDeBruineStudio
      @KrisDeBruineStudio  9 місяців тому +1

      As far as I can tell, from my online research, Master's Choice is the same paper as Artist Grade. Both have the same Baohong logo. The paper is manufactured by the same mill in China and meets the same standards. However it is sold through different channels. (i.e. I can't find Master's Choice on Amazon). You can learn more about the fascinating story of Baohong on this website - baohongpaper.com/index.php I hope this helps. Have a great day.
