What an awesome question! I had to do some digging on that one and I still cannot be sure of the answer, but maybe I can at least point you in the right direction. Most of the keywords I Googled lead me to articles about how to grow and care for the plant, or about it's toxicity if ingested directly. I didn't find any studies looking at it's affect on established plants or the fruit of those plants. I did find one cool study that looked at Datura's ability to absorb heavy metals from landfills, but that seemed to be more about the affect the landfills have on the environment than the plants themselves. www.hindawi.com/journals/aess/2020/8872475/ This search yielded some promising results: oceanhero.today/web?q=is+datura+stramonium+allelopathic I found this article about the affects of Datura on germinating seeds: www.researchgate.net/publication/354854300_Comparison_of_allelopathic_effect_of_aqueous_extracts_of_Datura_stramonium_parts_on_germination_of_seeds_of_some_plants It concludes that there is a reduction of germination around Datura plants, so you may be completely justified in your concern! @@GardenUPLandscape No seed tag… just a few pods from a woman’s plant. I can try both. They are growing all over my daughter’s extra lot in sand and dirt in the sun. Probably sun. Thank you!!!
Do you mean so the dormant seeds won't germinate? I would actually force germination, then weed out the seedlings. These germinated when we turned up the soil digging out a bunch of old roses, which is something that these seeds typically wait for. If I remember correctly they can lie dormant for a couple decades waiting for the right conditions. I weeded these out, I haven't seen them again since, and we've planted new things so the soil has been turned and stirred up a few times.
Ahhh. That's definitely a concern. Well, if tiling the whole area to germinate them all for hand pulling isn't feasible, and I doubt hand pulling by itself will be efficient, and you probably don't want to use a pre-emergent around your animals either... You could try corn starch as a pre-emergent. It's really difficult to use effectively because it only works for a couple days right after germination. Moisture has to be just right and it washes away really easily, so it has to be reapplied frequently. You'll want to read some articles on it to get actual instructions and details. I've never tried it but I've read that it does work if you do it correctly.
Do you happen to have photos or videos of datura metel from seedlings? I planted some in pots and I'm finally getting sprouts but I used my compost in the pots and honestly I'm not sure if random weeds are coming up or it's my datura plants lol. I'm not sure what they look like as seedlings.
Aside from what you saw in this video, no I don't have any other footage, and what I do have is not metel. But here's what comes up on Google ;) The second photo that I saw has a pretty clear shot of new seedlings. oceanhero.today/images?q=datura+metel+seedlings
Wow! I wonder how (or more specifically why) it was brought over there! Humans are terrible about bringing plants all over the world where they don't belong, but somebody must've wanted a real high to bring this back across the pond. Or is there a variety that's native to your area?
hello, friend ! i recommend to extract the tropane alkaloids from the seeds and straigh up inject that shit in the veins. you will instantly get sent into the shadowrealm ! safe, quick and easy. best regards.
(Translation: It is not necessary to wear gloves to handle the four-headed plant.) Good to know. It's probably fine to touch it if you aren't dealing with a lot of it. But as I'd not seen this plant in person before, so I'd never handled it and didn't know if I'd have a reaction, I think it was prudent to exercise caution. Also this was a fairly large patch to pull all at once, and the poison is in the dose.
@@GardenUPLandscape all the plant is Magic (if you don know to use it is puré poison) . The four head are Magic. Root. Leaves, flouers and Seeds. Sorry if the link dont have translation 🙏🏻
Thanks for this video. I have a small seedling that popped up in my garden. I’m debating whether to keep it or not. Would you keep it in your garden? Is it evasive to other plants?
100% depends on your situation. There are more "garden friendly" varieties of Datura, but all are toxic. If you have curious pets or kids that might taste test things, this is not a good plant for your yard. Personally, I've taught my daughter which plants are ok to eat and which are poisonous, to the point that she gets annoyed when I bring it up *again* because "I know that moooooommm". But she'll also tell anyone who visits which plants are not to be messed with so I definitely call that a win! LOL I brought a couple plants home in a pot to watch, and I enjoyed observing them! But personally I would not plant this in my garden. The smell is enough to knock me sideways. If I were to try a Datura again, I'd get one of the ones that supposedly smells nice and has a bigger flower.
I have these plants in my garden. They are beautiful and not very invasive with proper care. I ate four seeds to see what happens, I felt a little dizzy with some minor hallucinations. I also googled how many deaths attributed to this plant...2 since 2016. I think labeling it deadly is a bit exaggerated.
CYA - I'm not going to talk about any plant without full disclosure of something like toxicity. I would assume that if there have only been 2 deaths in the last 7-8 years it's probably just lack of accessibility and popularity. I'm not in a crown that tries stuff like this, or even discusses it beyond medicinal value, so I don't know how many people that do drugs would seek this out, and even if they did how many would actually find it. So if it's not popular and is hard to find, it wont do much damage. IMO. I could be totally wrong.
I ate all the seeds in a pod about 20 years ago. My friend did too; he spent 3 days in the ICU & very nearly died. Anyone who knowingly poisons themselves with this plant is an idiot & no one ever tries this plant twice. That should tell you all you need to know!
Thanks for the tip! I had not personally dealt with this plant before so I wasn't sure if I would have a problem or not. I didn't seem to have any issue, but I also didn't touch it much.
I had a client call them that once. I had no idea what she was talking about at the time! Then when I discovered these and was researching for this video I came across that common name. There are better varieties of Datura that are desirable in the garden, this one not so much IMO.
That's a good question that I don't feel entirely qualified to answer. My assumption is yes, that it should burn fine once dried, like if you throw it on your slash pile now and burn in the winter. I imagine that burning is probably among the various ceremonies that indigenous people used it in as well. My recommended cautions are to not touch a bunch of it with your bare skin unless you know you wont have a reaction, and wash your hands after handling it. But that really is just a guess on my part!
Why would you ever pull up Datura, do you realize how much the seeds sell for online? It's toxicity also kills all the bugs within feet of it in your yard, please send me some Datura seeds so I don't have to buy them for $50 for 5 online, I wanna make a video about it because someone drugged my friend with that stuff, and she was "tripping" for about 5 years, wearing diapers apparently.

What do you want to do in your video? If you'd like to email me you mailing address I'll be happy to send you some - but you have to promise to use them only for good! Moisture has to be just right and it washes away really easily, so it has to be reapplied frequently. You'll want to read some articles on it to get actual instructions and details. I've never tried it but I've read that it does work if you do it correctly.
What'!! It's all over on the road side in my place...
They do get around!
If you can get this beautiful plant started it is you will enjoy for years
Nyce information
Thanks!
It’s actually found in Scotland as well known as the devil Thornapple…
Wow! I wonder how (or more specifically why) it was brought over there! Humans are terrible about bringing plants all over the world where they don't belong, but somebody must've wanted a real high to bring this back across the pond. Or is there a variety that's native to your area?
It’s a powerful snake repellant used in sub Saharan Africa .
That's a thing I did not know. Thanks!
do u recommend smoking it or brewing tea ?
my mate 8balldave says its less toxic in a bong than roling paper but idk if thats true
Did you watch my video? No. I do not recommend doing anything with this plant if you don't know what you're doing.
I know some folks that made tea and died
hello, friend !
i recommend to extract the tropane alkaloids from the seeds and straigh up inject that shit in the veins.
you will instantly get sent into the shadowrealm !
safe, quick and easy.
best regards.

No es necesario ponerse guantes para manipular la planta de las cuatro cabezas✨
(Translation: It is not necessary to wear gloves to handle the four-headed plant.)
Good to know.
And sorry for my inglish 😁
Just a tiny little bit in the eye will dialate it for a few days.
Interesting! I did not know that.
LOL
I brought a couple plants home in a pot to watch, and I enjoyed observing them!
Gloves & PPE are not necessary. I just yank them out and beg em up to throw out. I’ve never had any issue. Just wash my hands when I go inside.
Thanks for the tip! I had not personally dealt with this plant before so I wasn't sure if I would have a problem or not. I didn't seem to have any issue, but I also didn't touch it much.
Moon flowers for those who don't know
I had a client call them that once. I had no idea what she was talking about at the time! Then when I discovered these and was researching for this video I came across that common name. There are better varieties of Datura that are desirable in the garden, this one not so much IMO.
I see how tney just appear now
👍
Thanks for the comment! :)
The game "Forumwarz" brought me here.
The what now?
lol, well thanks for watching and commenting!
Can I dig it up and burn it safely?
That's a good question that I don't feel entirely qualified to answer. My assumption is yes, that it should burn fine once dried, like if you throw it on your slash pile now and burn in the winter. I imagine that burning is probably among the various ceremonies that indigenous people used it in as well. My recommended cautions are to not touch a bunch of it with your bare skin unless you know you wont have a reaction, and wash your hands after handling it. But that really is just a guess on my part!
This woman would be a control freak, from hell.
LOL if you say so 😂
Why would you ever pull up Datura, do you realize how much the seeds sell for online? It's toxicity also kills all the bugs within feet of it in your yard, please send me some Datura seeds so I don't have to buy them for $50 for 5 online, I wanna make a video about it because someone drugged my friend with that stuff, and she was "tripping" for about 5 years, wearing diapers apparently.
This isn't Sacred Datura, which is usually what sells - at least for planting and ceremonial uses anyway. I did save several seeds for my own gardening experiments and purposes. What do you want to do in your video? If you'd like to email me you mailing address I'll be happy to send you some - but you have to promise to use them only for good! There are plenty of "trip reports" on UA-cam about this already so if that's what you want to do I will not be your source.
@@GardenUPLandscape Hi! I know I'm not the original commenter but I'm an archeology student at a university in California. I would be interested taking on some of these seeds and potentially seeds of other species related Ancient native gardens (bonus points for drought tolerance or high Sierra survivbility). If these seeds or any others you may have are still available, what would be the best way to contact you?

Lol this plant grows EVERYWHERE in Ohio, it is very, very common. You're getting ripped off hard online. I hope your friend is better now though.
This plant is just an ordinary grass in my country Nigeria 🇳🇬. It’s meaningless to us
Thanks for watching all the way from Nigeria!
Its not an ordinary plant are you kidding
I think mine came from birdseed
Birdseed from a bag is unlikely. I'm not positive but I don't think this is a seed that is typically used in bagged birdseed. Dropped by a passing bird - absolutely, that could easily happen!
Just tell the truth,,,,you smoked it in college!😂✌❤
😂😂😂 nope! I'm probably the lamest person that you'd never want at that kind of party! I'll talk your ear off for hours about science and plants or even politics, and I'll do karaoke without even drinking anything, but I've never actually smoked anything in my life. Can't stand to be around smoke.
So toxic!
Yep! My thoughts exactly!
People are using this to get high on
Yep. That's why I put that disclaimer a few seconds in. I'm not condoning or encouraging such behavior, I simply talk about the plant.
You don’t “get high” from this lol. You trip and vividly hallucinate
it's a power plant. she has good uses. heals pain helps sleep ask the Navajo. she is Sacred. a power plant healer and medicine. Began using in Mid June. Haha cool
What parts can you use for pain because i have crazy leg and back pain.
Sounds like you have been taking a lot of it!
This plant is useless for any medicinal value, you might as well smoke poison sumac.
