With some of these hosting companies there should really be a stop billing kill switch so that these can be terminated without incurring such costs. Especially for people trying to get a small project up - I've seen people say its easy enough to code ... if it is easy enough to code, then its easy enough for the provider to supply that feature.
The provider would never do that unless theirs pressure from consumers or stakeholders (I’d doubt a stakeholder would put any pressure unless it’s from the media)
Completely removing DDOS attack is something that can never be done. But one approach we can do is that, we pay upfront for a service and only paid and registered users can use the same. Still not good approach but better
A DDOS happens in a matter of a few hours and if you are not monitoring your e-mail or logs, you will go from serveless to homeless anyway. Shutdown your app may be the best solution.
Least they could do is alert the user at the moment the spike starts or let them have limits / caps. I'd be happy to put a max cap in dollars especially on the free tier. If you set 100$ of limit, send an alert for action to increase the limit at 70%, if not actioned - terminate it... 105 K it's a ridiculous amount and the situation and the whole service does not seem to be properly handled by netlify. Disappointing
What should be the benchmark for static file size? Is it possible that the net asset size is too small for ddos to make an impact? What should be the defense against ddos? Not interms if avoiding it, but more on lines of not being impacted by it
there is no defense for ddos. don't optimize for it. just put proper rate limits on your backend and put your infrastructure behind a bigger player like AWS WAF or cloudflare
I'm new to programming can someone with experience give me a legit answer why you won't just host your app without this serverless horror movies stories ? why not just host your website?

5:50 it's crazy they asked user to host his asset on youtube etc, What if UA-cam took down my asset.. that's crazy
Why doesn't the user just use a normal CSP like Azure or GCP. Sorry but it's hard to feel bad when people use these weird small companies.
Netlify was valued at $2bn in 2021. Not exactly a “small weird company”.
The title though😂😂
What if I just don't pay
At the end of the video, Netlify responded saying they won’t have to pay
Serveless to homeless 😅
Serverless to homeless 😂😂😂😂
Video Title 💀
Now new fear is unlocked for static folders file 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This should be illegal
I think that every cloud provider should have a hard limit after which they shut down the site.
Why would anyone attack a site that don't make any money. 😂 . Netlify itself would've done it.
how to avoid such situation.
it is so scary that i rethinking about my early career in Programming
Attach a virtual credit card with a certain limit and dip if you overshoot 😂
Even in the US, 5000 dollars can be a month of your salary.
Why dont people have email alerts when traffic usage 2 to 5x their daily average
