Ahh the good old days when we have no spoilers or leaks and we actually had the opportunity to be genuinely surprised when this kiss happened. I still remember my jaw dropping.
One of my favorite scenes in the series. Considering the episode "all things," and the numerous other ways they have been shown together since then kissing numerous times romantically, anyone who thinks that they just had a "platonic" relationship is kidding themselves. Their romance was just done "x files" style. It never followed conventional thinking. And to that end this is what helped make this TV partnership a legend in its own right. The thing that I adore most about it is that they left so much to viewer's imagination.
strawnobi their romance was equality. They both had their own ways, own lives but merged together. No one was more dominant. It has always been my ideal relationship. I love that they treated it in such a sacred way.
@@heather5391 feminism has been lying to you.. and that is why you are going to be a cat lady lol real life aint the x files with the guy being abducted and aliens out there .. real life is about making sacrifices in order to have a life together.. "own ways", when a woman says that, we know what it means... having the protection of a commited man while at the same time going to clubs, posting your body on instagram etc.. aka behaving like you were single and god forbid the guy challenges you on that behavior... "controling... toxic etc"
The show should have ended right there. Season nine was awful! Like we're meant to believe that Mulder would literally go to the ends of the earth for Scully but leave her and their son. Smh. And Scully putting him up for adoption even though he was all she ever wanted. Totally diminished their characters.
+Sarah Eaves I just ignore season 9 altogether. For me the show ended beautifully in season 8 (some of which I ignore, as well). It's just like not letting a bad sequel ruin a great original movie. Why should we allow that? The same goes for The X-Files, with season 9 as the bad sequel. Just forget it happened.
Mulder: *"I think what we fear were the possibilities... The truth we both know."* Scully: *"Which is what?"* *Mulder kisses Scully* I think that the truth that they both feared is that they were meant for one another but one of them had to confess, they both knew that they had an attraction for each other but they *feared the possibilities* that they might not be really good friends anymore. That's literally my theory on that lol.
+Redativity Sure, these are analogous, absolutely, and the same principle applies to Chris Carter and his producing/writing staff, who themselves were afraid of the possibilities, especially Carter himself, even though he set all of this up in the pilot episode. Although he left a few crumbs here and there for the Shippers who supported an eventual romance, for a long time he couldn't bring himself to start changing their relationship, which was doing SO well with platonic true love, effectively making him a Noromo (a person against romance for Mulder and Scully) during that time. Carter had always considered the possibility, but wanted to end the series at five seasons without romance and then go into that with a series of movies, but once he was forced to go back to TV, he got cold feet again. The show got well into season 6 before he gave in and admitted that the characters had taken on a life of their own, and therefore even he, their creator, couldn't legitimately force them to go against the path they were on. Carter himself wrote a whole episode, Milagro, that was devoted to this idea. Watch this episode with this in mind--it was his way of telling us that he would (gradually but eventually) allow Mulder and Scully to go down the path that he had so feared because it was the most natural thing for them to do (otherwise, the characters would effectively be destroyed by his meddling). From then on, there were signs given of their relationship becoming romantic, albeit this was characteristically very subtle. What you mentioned here is the acknowledgement after the fact--that Carter was afraid to go there--but like I just said, he admitted that he would (because he had to if he wanted to maintain any integrity as an executive producer and writer) back in season 6 with Milagro. And yes, it is kind of funny how the producers/writers put themselves into the show in ways like this. :)
CC's argument was that he wanted the characters to have the same dynamic they did in the original run of the show... the "will they won't they" get together tension. But I think that was a big mistake - we've already got 9 seasons of that. It would have been much more exciting for fans to explore their new dynamic - how being a couple gels or doesn't gel with being partners. Throw in some romantic scenes - a friggin sex scene would be great haha... I suspect they are worried the excitement will fade once they are together, but I don't think that would happen because these guys have such amazing chemistry and it's not like they would be falling over each other all the time. It would only be every now and then that we'd get a peek into their romantic relationship and that would keep fans like me who watched back in the 90's deliriously happy. But alas... it wasn't to be. We're meant to believe that Scully - after everything she went through in season 8 and 9 to be with Mulder - would dump him and barely have contact with him anymore because he was depressed. Ugh... makes me mad typing that! She never left his side in the past, even when he really deserved it. That was always their unspoken agreement, that they would always be there for each other, no matter what. I just don't buy them breaking up over something like that after everything that's gone on between them. Exploring a new chapter in their relationship rather than trying to turn the clock back was a real missed opportunity... I only hope they get back together in season 11. Which it seems CC is suggesting... but I never trust that guy.
+Agnostic Moderate Libertarian If you mean "should've ended right then and there" then I agree, and as far as I'm concerned--in my own little inner world--it did. By the way, here's a true story involving The X-Files. Several years ago my mother was recuperating from leg injuries, so I was spending a lot of time with her, helping her out. She's not into sci-fi or monsters or horror at all, and is extremely bitter and cynical about love stories between men and women (always calling BS on people, real or fictional, and their intentions), due to her life experiences. So as an experiment I took the opportunity to try to get her to watch The X-Files, and as luck would have it, she thought Mulder and Scully were cute, and thereby she willingly binge-watched the first eight seasons with me. To my surprise (and probably hers, too), she actually enjoyed the show and its humor, but she said very little about the Mulder-Scully relationship. After finishing season 8 on this scene, I lied a little, telling her that the show ended there. Amazingly, she had this soft but bright smile on her face, and she told me that this show was "the sweetest love story I've ever seen--this is true love." :) I told her that she surprised me, and she said that the show surprised her, and so did I because I'm normally not into love stories myself (it's true, I'm much more of a sci-fi fan). My mom still hasn't changed her general views, but at least I know there was one love story that got through to her. Maybe somewhere deep down inside, in a secret place, she wants to believe. ;)
They do have an unlikely real life romance. I read she said once, when asked if she and DD would ever get together, that they were like a couple who knew each other too well. He does have a sexual addiction, and she doesn’t appear to have a very good “picker” either. Or, she just isn’t the “for life” type of lover. They don’t stand a chance of making the long haul as a real couple, but they can have this closer than close relationship that works.
Spoilers for later seasons: I love this scene to death. I wish it didn't have to be soured by everything that came after it. Not only did they not get to raise him, but then he turned out to not even really be theirs. Granted, the idea of Scully miraculously having a child that she and Mulder conceived when that shouldn't have been possible is kind of ridiculous, but ultimately I think it was a lot better than the explanation we actually ended up with. A lot less disrespectful to Scully and Mulder's characters as well. Besides, they ended up letting them conceive a miracle child in the end anyway I guess, so I don't know what the difference is other than the fact that the writers apparently wanted to make them as miserable as possible as long as the show was still running.
+AyaNatsu05 yeah the child is his son, Scully pregnancy is possible because her DNA has been combined with UFO DNA, and in the All Things Episode, She slept with Mulder (that is what it mean in the beginning of episode), and She stayed pregnant since that moment!. The William birth always has been debatable, But for me is not, just my opinion, I think the DNA combined with aliens DNA made possible that William was conceived.
+Nathalie Stone In the season 10 finale/x-files revival they have Scully telling Agent Miller that she has a child with Mulder and they need to find William because his stem cells can help cure Mulder. I think that's all the confirmation we need that William is Mulder's son :)
yeah yes, but that doesn't worked, She doesn't get pregnant at that time! you remember when She returned from doctor, Mulder was there waiting the news, and She cried because the process doesn't worked! then in All Things Episode She lay with Mulder, and some week later, in Episode Requiem, Scully beginning to feel the symptom of her pregnancy. And that´s possible because her DNA was modificated and combined with extraterrestrial DNA, and Mulder suffered test too, when He was abducted by the cigarette smoking man..... So all this things it made possible William birth.
The Chemistry tween Mulder and Scully is amazing. Never do they say ''I love you'', but you know they love each other to death.
I love this scene. Mulder looks so genuinely happy to be a father. It's just wonderful.

You must not have been on Idealists Haven in the late 90s/early 00s. :)
Pure love and adoration right there and William the product of that true love.
What a romantic scene!, their eyes, smile, body language say everything: they love each other
So true! In both of their eyes...you see pure love for each other. David and Gillian played this scene perfectly!
I legit cried when this first aired. I was like 10 years old, sobbing haha. Mulder and Scully forever!!!
I'm only on season 1 but good to see mulder makes his move finally 😂

Twisted aliens had to make Scully pregnant with Mulder's baby because they couldn't do it themselves, lol
LOL!
But they did sleep together
In love with this two
Sometimes I think about this moment and then I think about them in Seasons 1-4 and I get overwhelmed.
The x files was able to give the audience a rare thing with these two wonderful actors, romance.
