Weird books are my absolute favorite! Bunny became one of my all time favorite books! I also recommend The Cipher by Kathe Koja, Follow Me to Ground by Sue Rainsford, and The Hole by Pyun Hye-Young for weird book lovers

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov is one of the weirdest and most disturbing and favorites of mine. Also - My Year of Rest and Relaxation and Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh.

Lolita is definitely disturbing. Lapvona is one I've been considering reading 🤔

my local Barnes and Noble has a "weird books for weird folks" table (they use an eyeball emoji) and I take a pic of the 24 on display every time I visit
so far I've snapped 50 books over 4 month, and I think I've read ~6
fav books I tagged as weird on GR that I didn't see in your vid--
    Mary (by Nat Cassidy)
    Catherine House
    Black Sheep (by Rachel Harrison)
    Several People Are Typing
The Unsuitable (by Molly Pohlig-- vastly underrated! I've never heard anyone talk about it)
    Juniper & Thorn
Revelator (by Daryl Gregory-- also underrated!!)
    Follow Me to Ground
Defekt (also Finna, but Defekt especially)
    The Locked Tomb series

I did talk about Cathrine House 😊 The Locked Tomb series for me I didn't find weird, so I decided not to put on this list.
I am interested in reading Mary though

Our Wives Under the Sea is fantastic! I read it earlier this year, along with I Who Have Never Known Men, and The Wall (Marlen Haushofer) - all fall into this "bleak, female protagonist" sub-sub-genre I have decided exists haha. Also if you dig Vandermeer - Dead Astronauts is a wiiiiild ride.

I've read Rabbit Back! One weird book I always recommend is Slade House by David Mitchell (a companion novel to The Bone Clocks, which I didn't realise at the time, and I still haven't read) but it's super weird and short! Also, The Call by Peadar O'Guilin, if you're into dark worldbuilding and sadistic fairies. It has a sequel, but imo The Call is the better book. 😊

I have seen the movie of The Virgin Suicides and I still remember it to this day so I am curious as to what the book would be like compared to the movie. Also, The House of Leaves is in the weird book category, as you know I read it earlier this month. Unfortunately there's very infamously a _lot_ of racism in Lovecraft's works. Even what he named his pet cat (which would be a blocked slur to write out on UA-cam).
So while he was definitely influential... idk. I don't really feel comfortable recommending him or looking past those elements of his life and his politics and his body of work.

🩻 x-rays are weird let's go with that
i really hope you love The Bloody Chamber, Angela Carter has a bit of a weird writing style but i love it, i didn't finish all the stories from my time reading it in university BUT
i think you mentioned not really listening to music but there is a song that i feel like must have been referencing a story from The Bloody Chamber (the story is The Erl-King).
the song is called the fruits by Paris Paloma, and there's a specific line that i feel references The Erl-King and if you're interested you should listen to the song after you read the story 👀👀
the song is INTENSELY feminine rage and choral and beautiful
i plan to fully read The Bloody Chamber probably in the fall because the vibes are unmatched
okay this comment could be a short story itself lmao
