The 1975 season brought forth more than its share of oddities. It also featured some awesome competition. It was so eloquently presented in this ABC Wide World of Sports broadcast hosted by the legendary Chris Economacki.
Starting with Top Fuel, Big Daddy Don Garlits set the stage for what would be a season of dominance in Pomona. If you showed up this season, more times than not you were racing for second place.
Over in the Funny Car division, there was the transition in the Funny Car divisions, as new body styles were coming in, and the utter dominance of Don Prudhomme.
Pro Stock was the oddest of them all with five-year-old Mustangs as the norm, and even a four-door Maverick. They were working the NHRA's system of weight breaks for the most favorable matchups.
A couple of months later, the face of championship drag racing would change forever with Winston/RJ Reynolds coming aboard as the first series sponsor.
Always enjoyed Chris Economaki's commentator coverages of 1970s/early 80s Drag racing !
I remember watching this on a B&W TV in '75 glued to the screen afraid to miss even a second.
Prudhomme and Garlits. Drag Racing Gods
This is Cool.Thanks.Cheers from Oz.👍🍻🦘
I agree!!
Don Prudhomme casually smoking a cigarette and nobody cares - those were the good "ol days.
The good ol' days that led to cancer for more than just the smoker!! Yeah, great stuff!!
@@Anarchy-Is-Liberty Forgot to mention Nitro fumes and burning rubber.
Today they'd call the swat team.
@@Flussig1 people would be critically butt hurt.
So killer!! I was there for Friday qualifying as a 5 yr old…when Hindsight flipped over backwards!
Killer upload! Had never seen this one. Poor Mike Miller really didn’t know what else to say with Chris holding that mic in his face for so long lol
I was there! One of my first national events I went to as a spectator, loved it and still have the 68 firebird I bought that year. Still racing it now.
I remember watching this on Tv back then. Thanks for loading it.
The Late John Lingenfelter won the Super Stock race..awesome
Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍
Always good to see Bob Glidden taking the win and the championship in 1975.
Always love watching the legends- nitro drag racing is amazing
Cuz, drag racing IS faaar out!!!
The music goes so well with polyester and bad hair cuts....thanks for posting this vid
Really cool! I've got the 1/16 scale model of the Green Elephant that came out a year or so ago.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing.
Ahhhh. More gold dust from CPTV.. Thanks guys..
Chris Econamackie had the best voice for drag racing coverage. Pro stock cars have a great rake.
Sorry, Steve Evans was the best. Far more knowledgeable and articulate than Chris.
Come on, while Economacki was ok covering other forms of "motor sporting" drag racing had Steve Evans, Dave McClellan, Bret Kepner, Bob Frey and others. Next to them he sounded like a geek.
@@jerrytee2688 and don't forget Brock Yates. Economackie was light on drag racing. The guys you mentioned were the seasoned pros.
@@burningblue1254 Yes, forgot about Brock Yates.
@@davem6685 Oh yeah, no doubt. Aren't those memories great? It's like hearing Ken Squire at the Daytona 500.👍
Brilliant! Loved waited through 2 hours of skiing or figure skating on the Wide World of Sports for the 10 minutes of drag racing coverage!
Never knew Economaki was a drag racing commentator. Always have associated him with NASCAR.
Just think today's top fuel cars are running 100 mph faster in a shorter distance
Nice one 👌
Did Chris just say it was "nitroglycerin" coming out of Miller's car?
You would've thought someone could've said "Hey Chris it's Prudomme not "Pradom".
That’s a good one
I guess Chris couldn't take a hint that Mike was done talking and wasn't interested in more. Mike actually looked a little disgusted to be honest.
Mike Miller looks like he should be a keyboardist in a 60's rock band.
25.000 for Pro Stock car!
From WWOS Feb 8, 1975
Was the snake smoking while he was racing?
You gotta get to the stripe FIRST!!!
😊 👍
Back when cars were cars, men were men, and women were women.
