16:30 My biggest disappointment in Vampire Odric is I counted all the keyword abilities he checks for his ETB trigger: it's 12. Wizards should have squeezed one more on there for the sweet 13. Probably Ward.

Would it have cost them too much to give him First Strike, or Vigilance, or Flying? Was that deemed too powerful? In THIS standard?

Wandering Mind is fantastic. 6 cards is DEEP and 2/1 is surprisingly pushed even if it doesn't look like much. This could have easily been a 1/1 like the thopter that draws a card. Trading with X/2s is huge, plus this is "super draw 1". Digs almost as deep as Dig Through Time which is amazing in a combo shell or in a spells deck. Makes it easy to find your 1-2 ofs. I love it. Such a perfect bridge card.
Olivia, Crimson Bride would be a hilarious hit on the new Sneak Friend and Enter deck you built. Get that sweet sneaky 3 for 1 action going
The thing with Torens is that although the ceiling is high, he is super vulnerable to anything played in the meta and unless you can cheat mana on turn 3 thanks to Katilda, he is a 2/2 that dies to anything before generating value. He encourages you to overcommit, to cast things to flood the battefield with tokens but he is super weak to circonsplasm/Meathook and you don't want your 3 drops to be that weak against these.
Against control you want to play your tools carefully, so he probably will always be cut against these. Against Monowhite, he is eaten by skyclave/brutal, he can't block anything, not even a one drop with 2 power, against monogreen he dies to a turn 3 blizard brawl on Pack leader or Ranger class's token while Hamlet doesn't and Adeline as well most of the time.
The 3 drop spot is crowded, you have Hamlet vanguard, immediate fat beater super resilient to target removal. Briarbridge tracker, immediate solid beater that can attack and block while providing card advantage. Adeline, can generate a token in turn 3, hit super huge most of the time while being a good blocker, has vigilance, can create an army on her own if unchecked. Elite spellbinder, provide information on the opponent hand and can delay a sweeper, essential against control, less so against creatue based deck.
I am so pumped for this expansion, I’ve been wanting to build a standard spirit deck but nothing was sticking out to me and this is exactly what I have been wanting.

Edgar Markov is kinda neat if you have two of them. Sac one to the legendary rule, transform instead, now you have both sides in play always.
True tho the back half also legendary so when they remove the front half youll have to sac one of the enchantments.
I think your awards were spot on. The multicolored seemed to be lacking this set, but I think it is for good reason. The limited in this set already feels like it is going to be busted just looking at the unbeatable bombs in the monocolors. Then in multicolored, there are a few there as well. They needed to tone it down from a limited view. But for constructed, it does seem that multicolored was left out.
I just wish Odric got a full story instead of just appearing as a vampire.

Eruth might potentially synergize with Moonveil Regent. She prevents the draw while Regent forces draw everytime you cast a spell.
100% Frog Monday Confirmed, TY Jim
I think Grolnok's meme creature typing and counters disguise the fact that it is Lier for permanents, and Lier was overlooked in preview season too. It combos really well with Willow Geist, and though there's obviously not a lot of frog tribal support we do have Croaking Counterpart to clone Geists as frog token, which can then be copied by Esika's Chariot. Given a good permanent tribal support shell a Grolnok/Geist deck can put a lot of power on the board while generating a lot of card advantage.
I've got a pretty weird ooze deck running sludge monster, deathbonnet, three seasons, other blue green mill/snow stuff and frog would be a funny inclusion. Also, a black/blue slug and ooze deck with slime counters would be pretty hilarious. Maybe even three colors to splash green to mana ramp to the slug even faster.
@@majnuker I looked into snow as well and I think there's something there. I've even looked at shapeshifters to maximize the Grolnok triggers but haven't built around it yet.
A funny interaction to note is that beloved survivor/Dauntless avenger flips on t3 with a t2 Dorothea. And Dorothea is a 2 drop that you can bring back over and over with Avenger getting a none commited Dorothea effect.
(Hopefully we get selfless spirit in historic soon they have really delayed shadows/eldritch moon)
I would urge people to think about grolnok as more of a graveyard-centric card rather than a frog tribal card. Just on its own, the attack trigger effectively reads draw 3 cards, which is very powerful for a 2UG 3/3.
It’s pretty weak to removal, but could be a solid sideboard plan in control mirrors
Not enough frogs for Grolnok? What about faceless haven, a 3 mana 4/3 frog that’s also a land? What about masked vandal, a 2 mana frog that destroys artifact or enchantment when it enters the battlefield? There’s a ton of frogs in standard.
I have a feeling that Eruth , tormented prophet could be good in older formats with lightning bolts and other cheap burn spells. Seems like a really cool card but we'll see if it is actually any good.
Eruth has some combo potential especially with Vega the watcher being another 3 drop that can go infinite if you storm off
curving kaya into firja's retrubution is very strong. in fact a ton of the angel cards make angel tokens. so i think it might have deserved a tiny bit more credit than it got. i still don't know if it's good enough though...

The Krothus lord of the deep has flying.... wut. Also why is his ability cloning sea creatures? That card is mechanically interesting but such a weird flavor.

In modern maybe, but going back any further than that, and this card just isnt good enough to survive anything, assuming it even hits the field. But modern is a streatch as well. The only real credit for it is that it could see EDH play. The only issue there is that if you want graveyard there is already a better frog that sees competitve EDH play. Gitrog.
I don't even think the UB Exploit deck looks to be really good. The format already has a very solid Mono Black Sacrifice Aggro deck in that supports the exploit mechanic perfectly with the likes of Eyetwitch, Shambling Ghast, Skyclave Shade, Lolth, Deadly Dispute, Meathook Massacre and I think now you just add blue and have even better payoffs to sacrificing your stuff as well as some additional gas if you want to go heavier on zombies to play Champion of the Perished, Jadar... heck maybe even the 1U "Squadron Hawk on death" zombie, Headless Rider and the Scorpion Zombie. I mean maybe you play 2 Grafted Identity, 3 Eaten Alive and 2 Infernal Grasp alongside 3 Meathooks as your removal suite?

My sleeper is definitely Sigardan Paladin, and the reasons are:
1) it says "when a counter is put on a creature", not "when a creature trains". Let me run down the list: Luminarch Aspirant, Ranger Class, Sparring Regiment, Snakeskin Veil, Green Inscription, Trelasarra/Voice of the Blessed + Lifegain cards, Ochre Jelly (and similar), Oran Rief Ooze.... That card is very easy to trigger
2) ANY creature, not just itself or another
3) Trample and Lifelink on a 4/4 is a hell of a race, and giving it any counters or giving that ability to any creature with counters is A LOT
I already have a GW Lifegain aggro shell ready for that card, it's gonna be a fun time
You can't call that "sleeping on" if you're considering this card only in a junky casual list. A 4/4 that does nothing in turn 4 is not constructed playable. Selesnya lifegains is not a tier 1/2 list right now, so it's irrelevant.
Jim davis evaluate the cards from a competitive pov. This is tournament material analysis, you are not on the same wavelength at all.
@@KayleJudicator who says selesnya lifegain can't be a deck next expansion? The cards are there, the upgrades are there, Lifegain decks have the potential to compete. Just because a deck isn't Worlds Tier it doesn't mean it's janky
@@OsvaldoChannel1 What make you think that the cards are there ? Your judgement ? I mean after hearing your analysis about Sigardian Paladin, it's pretty clear that you have no idea what is a good competitive card and what is not. Every already established tier 1 decks got an upgrade, Monowhite get Thalia and a new solid one drop, Monogreen get a solid one drop and a new hasty creature. What makes you think that a deck so far behide will compete with them ? The deck didn't get anything that paliate his weakness. Voice of the blessed is an amazing card that will impact historic, but for standard it's pretty unlikely, he doesn't fix any issues.
Besides it makes no sense to play Selesnya lifegain when in this pair color you have a more competitive shell which is Selesnya human. Selesnya human splash blue (for counter spells) got the best ranking at the last major tournament. Selesnya lifegains ? No where to be seen, never pull any results in tournament during the whole Midnight hunt standard.
@@KayleJudicator exactly my judgement, I am one of those guys that tries a ton of decks instead of just netdecking top tier. After a while I can recognise what cards have potential and what don't, that is how decks like Jeskai Mutate get found. Selesnya Lifegain is a deck I have tried and definitely has enough good cards between archetype and in color staples. It can at least be good enough to make mythic. I did hit mythic with Abzan Clerics standard last season, currently climbing with Gruul Burn Historic and Esper Tempo standard, so i have the stats to back up my judgement.
If I am wrong, well it is me who burned wildcards :)
@@OsvaldoChannel1 Hitting mythic is absolutely nothing on Arena, any janky list can hit mythic if giving the time to grind. Hit top 10 in a relevant 3 stars tournament and then you will convince people.

In case it becomes a relevant card, Dorothea is the old timey spelling of "Dorothy". It's pronounced the same.

I think people are heavily underrating the training mechanic. With the way it is written it looks like this can trigger multiple times on one attack.
Unfortunately Training only checks once per combat.
I really wish they would just get rid of Kaya…. Every card she is on sucks. Every trim they print her it’s like she’s an afterthought. This trip to innistrad has sadly been a let down. Wtf was wizards thinking.
True, beyond just the lore being opaque as to why shes there (has she appeared on any other card in innistrad??) im confused as to what exactly shes doing in this card version. Like shes a geist hunter, but shes making spirit tokens? Also the geists on innistrad in this set are mostly vigilant heroes who were killed by vampires or werewolves or what have you, so is she on the side of the vampires when it comes to killing the geists? Is she even participating in the wedding/the celestus stuff? All in all a very weird inclusion. Not that Chandras made any more sense but like at least shes dressed for the occasion so its clear that shes written for this plane.
