- It goes without question that this Toronto Blue Jays offseason is the most critical one in franchise history. The Blue Jays have slowly lost their identity as a playoff contending team that can shut down the best offenses and make opposing pitchers sweat every pitch. Instead the Blue Jays have become the “soft spot” of many teams schedules in 2024. What was supposed to be a “talented” ball club has not been very successful in the recent years. With Vladdy and Bichette on expiring contracts in 2025, how do you win now, and also extend your winning window even longer?

I said this two months ago, both Akins and Shapiro must not be allowed to make any further moves/trades; Take a look at the players now excelling with other teams; Last night I watched Tim Mayza pitch for the Yankees, 3 innings of shut out ball. Were is Mr. Rogers or whomever is really in charge, HE must not let this charade continue with the present hierarchy.

@@Notjackpausner For a normal functioning team I would agree with you. But Shapiro and especially Atkins should have been fired the last 3 years on performance alone. And here we are…never say never with this group. I was at the first game on April 7, 1977 and have seen it all with this team. This is them at their worst yet.
Edit: And Ed Rogers does’t give a flying fuck about anything but profit. Shapiro got him his lipstick on a pig of a stadium that suits the ADHD crowd in the outfield seats perfectly (who are mostly occupied with anything but baseball for $20 a crack and $15 a beer). And he fills the rest of the stands with people who sit on their hands like they have Stockholm Syndrome, and keep coming back. This would never fly in Boston or NY or Philly. Shatkins would’ve been ousted from town years ago, but Toronto flocks to loser teams like moths to light. So nothing changes. Again…never say never on anything with this shit show.
Mark and Ross both need to go.

So dumb thinking the blue jays contending in 2025, that’s going to take a monsterous offseason, and we all know ross is not capable of doing that so right now he should just extend vladdy and go from there
That's quite the fantasy that the Jays are going to go out and get a roster of star position players and a starter and bullpen. You have to be expecting a big payroll increase as well as dumping half the team off the bus to help pay for it. It seems very far fetched. this isn't the Dodgers or Yankees where a team just decides to go out and buy a winning team.
Offer Vlady a 5 yr contract for big money if he rejects it trade him off for a haul of players a mix of top prospects and players you can use in the here and now. Same with Bo.. he damn sure doesn't want to be in Toronto. There is a middle of the road approach you can take and still make the playoffs. Sign free agents and do a few trades to fill holes with the money saved on those two and maybe get some help from your young ones along the way. Make fixing your minor league system a priority no matter if you keep Vlady and Bo or not.
He. Is. Right. He so what you do is you sign Bo. Nd Vlddy. Then you go from there that’s how you build a championship team you don’t need to win it at one after year it takes time look at the Yankees and you go from there
Just want to ask but don't they have to rebuild at this point? Lets say the Yankees resign Soto. No way the Jays are beating them right? Lets say Rubenstein goes berserk and spends good money on the O's next year. Can the Jays really outspend him and fill the gap? Probably not. Mark and Ross had their shot. Now it's time for a new regime to come in and restart things from the ground up. Trade all the guys that have some value before they're gone.
If I were a player I’d ask to be reimbursed “like the contract says” and go my separate way

It wasn’t great press conference. I was never and still not a fire Atkins guy, but they didn’t seem like they were going to be aggressive this offseason or lock up Vladdy. The only way he get the fan’s confidence back, if they lock up Vladdy.

I expect a big swing or two. Saurez and Montgomery for Bassitt? Springer (10 million retained) and Yariel (or something ) for Bellinger so Cubs can sign Alonso? Long term Beiber or Scott deal? Rengifo and Ward from Angels? Can't be just free agents.
This video is bit dramatic. There are lot of good things about the current Jays. I might point out that in 2023 everyone was talking about keeping Bo and trading Vladdy. Assuming that Bo comes back strong this is still a powerful combo to build around. The starting pitching core is very strong. Some of the young guys this year showed real promise. So I don't think we starting quite as far back as the video suggests. The bull pen needs rebuilding. I'd love to get Garcia back and keep Ryan Yarbough. Assuming that Romano and Swanson return to form and a couple of new arms are added plus an extra bat I think things could look promising for 2025. The biggest problem for the next couple of years is George Springer. He is eating up 10% of the payroll and has diminishing returns year to year. The Jays are paying 25 Million for a 1.2 WAR player. Not good.

At this point, we have to come to the conclusion that Ol Shappy has a crush on Rossy boy. Not that there's is anything wrong with that. They should spend less time boinkin' each other and focus on their job. Or leave town and get a room.
They thought they would win the division this year but finished last. Everyone had injuries so no excuses. Boston and Tampa have reloaded for next year with top talent pushing up from the minors as well. Who do they think they are competing with? It pains me to say, but we have zero chance of getting out of last place without a rebuild, and these guys are too delusional to be the architects.

this past offseason is not critical at all. it can even b argued tha this off season is trivial. The off seasons of 2022 and 2023 were much more critical. the jays have regressed while the other teams in the AL have made strides to get better. The Jays are a 4th or 5th place team in the AL East with about 8 or 9 teams that are better. Other than signing someone like Soto, or 2 players like Alonso and Santander, as well as 3-4 bullpen arms and a 3B, this team s going no where.
Working for Atkins is putrid! He never gives credit to his players. It is always this guy is good BUT ........ Is it a contract thing, I don't know. Atkins is a dumpster diver and he rarely has any success. Him assessing talent is laughable !! Just look at what he did last year. There was not a A Blue Jays that didn't know that the team couln't and wouldn't hit but that was his team. Biggio, Voglebach, filling roster spots ha, ha !! Even the players that were good defensively couldn't hit.
Advanced analytics made those players look amazing. The Blue Jays need to quit their overreliance on analytics.

What team are you talking about? The last time I saw anybody sweat about the Blue Jays was in 1993! Since then, they've been a joke, oher than a very brief time with Jose Bautista.
The Blue Jays suffer from the same problem the Maple Leafs suffer from. They simply cannot change. They are paralyzed.
Why else do you think we still have the Shit-a-Plan for the Leafs and pretty much the same Blue Jays head office as last year?
The only reason the Blue Jays are significantly different in 2024 is because our vaunted head office decided not to pay for anybody good...
This really pisses me off. All throughout my career, if I did not perform, I would get fired. I guess I picked the wrong vocation. I should have gone into Canadian professional sports...
Atkins is so brutal
I am not a GM but getting Vladdy signed and building around him should get done in the off season. If he isn't signed in the off season forget about it. Vladdy will be insulted and he ain't coming back and who would blame him. The other thing that needs to stop is the dumpster diving Atkins does thinking the Jays coaching staff will get them going. The staff has proven they suck , other than Pete Walker. Sign some proven talent that Will help from day one.
They fired a bunch of coaches, so hopefully whoever they hire knows how to do their job, instead of blindly following analytics. Jesse Barfield is an example of someone who would change the whole culture and approach of the coaching staff.
The dumpster diving is also fueled by analytics. Analytics made Vogelbach look amazing.
They would make a change if people quite going and attendance went down to about 12k per game, everyone should have a sign fire S and A. these two talked a big storm when they took over the team. Talked a big one about strong farm team and winning a world series. Accomplished nothing! Weak team weak farm system!
Their strategy is pick up every DFA player available and run it back. Trade Atkins for a bag of balls.
This roster is a mess and don’t expect any miracles in the off-season, so once again we will have a top 10 payroll non competitive team.
Guys, I think it’s too late for this core. Clean house and sell sell sell. The stench of failure is too strong with this front office and roster.
Ross is just a yes man. Its Mark pulling all the strings. This team is a joke!

1. Sign Vladdy 2. Trade Bo 3. Sign Adames 4. Sign a huge bat (Soto, Alonso etc) 5. Sign a starter 6. Add 4 bp arms 7. Replace Schneider
Then you have a World Series contender. There are of course other small trades. Move Davis S., move other rookies without spots. Keep Lukes for the outfield. (Great bat and arm), sit Springer etc
The only way I see value for Springer playing is if he adds some steroid muscle (ala Jarred Duran) and starts hitting for more power.
Time to boycott
Another thing get Bo right and trade him . He has soured on being in the Jays organization and who can blame him. But make a good trade for Christ sakes. One other thing gets some BATS , OMG , it was pathetic watching the Jays this year !!!
Bo's attitude will change, now that the Blue Jays have made some coaching changes. The front office should definitely talk with him to gauge how he feels now.
I’m ok with them making the moves this season. If they do not win in 2025 they are out. Three strikes. Then bring back AA as president.

Why do they have to extend vladdy 10 years, i dont think he's wanting a 10 yr contract i think he wants a 4 yr deal at 32 mill per yr or so, and then he will give the jays the chance to do a 10 yr deal or he can go elsewhere for the 10 years., Trade Loperfido, Martinez and Barger to Oakland for Mason Miller and Brent Rooker, sign Eugenio Suarez to a 3 yr 33 mil deal, sign aroldis chapman to a 3 yr 20 mil deal, yimi garcia 3 yr 15 mil, trade away Romano and Swanson put Yariel Rodriguez in the pen , resign danny jansen to a 3 yr 12 mil deal,
