Tom MacDonald: “As a white rapper w/ a largely white fan base...I think it’s important to provide the flip-side of the coin. “Whiteboy” and “Straight White Male” were white perspectives. “If I was Black” is ME imagining MY - ME - MYSELF’S perspective if I were black.”

Honestly, I feel like most of us shouldn't. They're certainly not being used to support the communities they're taken from.

Tom's lyrics are written to make us start the conversations we would otherwise avoid. Follow this with "Whiteboy" to get the fuller picture.

I'd follow with "Straight White Male" It's just stereotypes. Both are good though.

LA Chapter of Black Panthers are in the video with Tom. White Boy and If I was Black is Tom showing we are all bound to feel our own way depending on our lives doesn't mean anyone is right or wrong just that we have our own feelings. We can still get along though. Respect is key.

Story had it that he and Nova were out for food, and he saw a black guy(a few?) and the hair style the black guy really struck a nerve with Tom, and told Nova if he was black he’d wear his hair that way. Story also says that he put off production on Buttholes to do this project.

yeah i thought it was so funny and interesting and whatnot that he found it more important to go home and do than buttholes!! haha i saw that interview explanation...i think he did it with simbatv...

Tom was living in the ghetto of South Central LA and all his neighbours were black, before Tom put the song out and made a music video for it he took it to the local chapter of the Black Panthers, they liked the song and wanted to be in the video, so some in the background are the real thing.

Found you because of Tom. I just watched all your other reactions first. Hope you guys continue down the Tom rabbit hole. Must of us HOG will recommend that you start at Dear Rappers and work your way forward. He has some very bar heavy songs you will need to pause. If you even laugh for a second you will miss something. LOL And you have gotten a taste of Tom's music but there is so much. The HOG does not call Tom a rapper because he is an ARTIST. We love hearing your thoughts, please pause and comment. If you stop to REALLY hear the lyrics your perspective would be different. He was talking about why black people might feel the way white people THINK they do. He has a few different satire/stereotype songs. This is why pausing is so important. Love you guys.

Tom speaks for people and views. The others in the video were black panthers that approved the song and appeared in the video.

You need to do the song “ White Boy” with the round table before him where he does Q and A with the actors. Then do the song “ This House” which is the response from the fall out of people taking the wrong idea of what he was trying to say. This house shows his lyrical ability. Love the channel!!!!!

TOM IS VERY TALENTED AND AWARE OF WHATS GOING ON. HE USED TO LIVE IN THE GHETTO AND HAS ALOT OF BLACK FRIENDS. IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE WHITEBOY I WOULD PLEASE SAY DO BEFORE THE SHOOT OF WHITEBOY AND LISTEN TO HIM TALKING ABOUT WHY HE MADE THE SONG. TOM SEES THINGS THROUGH OTHER PEOPLES EYES AND WALKD A MILE IN PEOPLES SHOES ALL THE TIME. BUT I LOVE THIS SONG IT'S BRUTALLY HONEST.HANGOVERGANG FOREVER KEEP UP THE WORK GUYS HANGOVERGANG LOVES IT

The premise is him actually assuming the identity of being black and how he can understand what, how, and why he would feel the way he does in the song if he was black. He took the role of being a member of the black community (if I were black - is emersing himself and understanding and accepting the views of others. black to express his understanding of the black community.

He is independent. So he doesn't make the industry any money. At this point in time they were trying to block him and hide him away as much as possible
They made it extremely difficult for him to release this in the first place
They still try. But too many people know who he is now🥰🥰

He was taking a lot of heat after Dear Rappers and whiteboy. He really is trying to hear/see everyone's perspective.

Watch whiteboy with the before the shoot. Understand Tom is Canadian. He was very much facing culture shock with America's race issues. If you follow him from the start you can see him feeling his way through the culture shock.

TOM NAILED THIS IMHO & PAID THE MOST HONOR & RESPECT TO BLACK FOLKS & THE HIP HOP CULTURE WITH THIS TRACK THATS Y IT HAS SO MANY VIEWS & PPL STILL RECOMMENDING IT TO MILLIONS ( YEARS LATER ) TO WATCH...BECAUSE IT WAS DEEP AF & HONEST & EPIC....WHATS UP WITH YOU GUYS MISINTERPRETING HIS SONGS MESSAGES ESPECIALLY ONE WHERE HE WAS PAYING THE MOST RESPECT & HONOR TO THE BLACK RACE!? Thanks for the comment! And we just react to the song.. not going to break down the lyrics to his songs.. we interpret the song going off of hearing it ONE time. So, if we miss something, or get something wrong. That's why people Like YOU. Who are die hard fans come in and teach us! And we love to be taught 😌 so keep the comments in CAPS coming.

You all need to react to Tom's song White Boy. It's kind of opposite to this song. I haven't found your video of it if you've already done it. Thanks

    The message is thus:
Many caucasian Americans THINK all black American's think this way.
He saying hey - this is why we (whites) think that black people think this way - because "I" were black, it's the way "I" would think. And here's why.
And for those who do feel this way, he understands why.
Explaining to outsiders, there may be credence to feeling this way.
In the end - he has the balls to tackle these kinds of topics to risk sounding offensive - in order to shorten the gap between people's views starting with having open and honest dialogue.
"In order to think, one has to risk being offensive" -Jordan Peterson

You need to do Whiteboy and make sure you do the small video with Tom explaining what the video was about. Then you need to play Our House which was his response to all the haters to Whiteboy. Tom is truly a unifier and far from racist. #hog4life

i caught an interview he did with another fellow youtuber and literally he said the inspiration was from the way a black guy was wearing his braids and tom used the phrase "if i was black" when talking about it to nova and it went from there...this song threw me for the longest time until i saw that interview...
