it doesnt matter just an interesting note you can look these motors up easily and learn what im sayin .... here goes ....seems like he said theyre type4 or 3 motors.... if thats true these motors are way way more robust and beefy .... hardly any parts interchange.... they were still dead nuts reliable when service was kept up like all others...... they also started out with more cubic inches than the type1-- "bug" you are 💯correct i just found it another layer of unique build to have chosen those engines and thought yall might as well have a great day yall
My first car in Australia was one of these Type 3 vw. And I was a carpenter lol. The guy I got it from already had a twin flat engined type3 finished and driving with a tomato crate covering the engines in the back.....it wasn't amazing tho as at the time it was still air cooled. Pretty cool tho.....
@@derekhobbs1102 I did see that video and it sounds like a metal flex-plate sort of affair. I was thinking a Falk or Lovejoy style coupling but they probably wouldn't be capable of carrying this level of horsepower at the existing shaft diameters. Of course they could be bushed or flanged to adapt larger couplings I suppose.
so thats why it sounds like a V8. its basically a crossplane split crank Edit: i wouldnt call it twin engine because it is technically a whole unit. just two systems to run them together
Very cool indeed but I think cooling would be an issue without the essential shrouding on the motors. Even with the fans it would soon overheat. Love the look and concept though.
Don’t see the big fan sitting on top of the engine right below the intake?? It’s a aluminum flex fan black sitting right in between both engine plus the two electric ones for the coolers up front
ive got two type one motors an a railbuggy frame not doin nuttin ..... also have a 914/midengine Porsche 5 speed..... hmmmmmm i kinda need a big ole onch thick coupler lmao
Whoever came up with this idea deserves a medal! Thanks for posting!
Emerson Fittipaldi
The paint job this car gets later is off the hook sweet
I absolutely love the off the wall creative hot rodder, I had goosebumps as I watched this video. Awesome!
this guy is a legend
A real deal twin mill!
It doesn't sound like a dak dak, it sounds like a V8. cool
Sounds as good as any big block, especially breathing through a quartet of Webbers. Man, what a ride.
best sounding air cooled bug motor i.ve heard.

Exellent work, very rare to see anything this diferent in the vw scene and its a gasser.
just saw a few videos of this that were a little more recent and omg the paint on it
This is awesome, I know this guy! Him.and his son built this and it's insane!
2:07 oh gettin freaky with the gasser
Awesome build 👍
*HERE WE ARE*
started from the bottom ...
When he says 3 inch driveshaft by the wheelbase id bet its 3 inches long lol

damn 400hp out if 2 flat 4s is pretty impressive. i think they at most had like 60hp stock
No, they had more than that. The older, smaller VW flats had something like that but the later 2300s were quite a bit more. Still impressive, though.
Last bug i had was 40 horse stock most they had stock i believe was around 50
Holy shit.....that is incredible!
That thing looked great even before he had it painted
Sounds good! I feel a trend coming on...
Brother I would love to see that in . Actions that is BADASS
This car has since been finished in sick candy reds and is featured in a new video by Hot VWs Mag (April, 2023)
Bet that runs hot
Top five for sure...
Totally rad, totally different, love the sound, who would have thought ?
Apparently one smart SIR ! (Yanks are funny that way)
Needs a blower. Just saying.
Fantastic! 😷
Seen this! It is in AZ
So is the coupling rigid or does it have a flexible element. I mean to accommodate minor chassis/engine mount flex, etc.?
In later videos on UA-cam he explains the coupling better. It looks totally different now.

How many beers did that design process take?

There is no cooling system, no fans, no tins. How far is it driven on the street? From the trailer to the show field??
It's just 2 old vw flat 4s together they're air cooled there would be no way to liquid cool it
@@oscarmccormack1761 I don't think you understand his question. You need fans and tons to keep them cool.
He has 2 electric fans mounted under the hood, article this month in Hot VW.....
@@michaelrockwell9691 how does no one see the big honking fan in the center of the engine right below the intake that cools the engine?
Telfo seems unusually more aussie.
Panda Monium
My daughter said the same. Aussies seem more Aussie in America
haha yes I am guilty of that when I'm over there.
Really? I have to bung on the yank accent so folks will understand me!
Haha..yeah mate I just be myself and get laughed at..They think I'm a novelty..
But no fans? How does he get air to those air/oil cooled motors?
There is two oil coolers and two fans controlled by the driver as needed

bad ass
Dude is standing next to a gt-r
Match it up on the drag strip against a GMC Typhoon.
Its not awd
Says the dude thar just discovered what a gmc typhoon/syclone is. Fan boy.
another one? a flat 12 maybe?
IF Germany won the war.
My friend if I didn't know any better I'd say that was a V-8 water-cooled V8 running that was raped
ENOUGH GODDAMNED TALKING...LET THE ENGINE TALK AND PUT THE FRIGGIN PEDAL TO THE METAL !
very cool motor, but wrong end of the car
It wont fit on the back
1500-1600lbs huh? stock they weigh at least 2200 and you put a bunch of extra parts in it. I bet he's off by half a ton
Autism and money
"Can we put two engines in there",
"Of course we can"
