There is a live performance, I forget when exactly it was, maybe a decade or so ago where the band brought out Mick Taylor to perform this song. Having Mick Taylor naming his original lead guitar with Keith and Ronnie backing him up on rhythm guitars all enjoying themselves was one of those mega special moments. All they needed in that show was to have Bill Wyman too.

I am fortunate to say that I have been listening to the Get Yer Ya Ya's Out album since 1970 and have worn thru two LPs, three cassette tapes, a CD and now on music download.
I just saw them perform this past July in LA and with the exception of Brian Jones, have seen every lineup of The Stones. Needless to say, these guys are the Greatest Rock and Roll band to ever exist for many reasons that can fill a book.

You should watch some of the live versions of “Can You Hear Me Knocking” from their 2013-14 Tours when Mick Taylor rejoined the band as a “guest.” As great as they are with Ronnie, whom I believe is a great player in his own right, there's an extra dynamism and energy in the group when Taylor is up there. He always brought the best out of them as a live act.

More like 1966 to 1973. They were at their creative zenith during this period (which includes their forays into baroque pop and psychedelia) and earned their reputation as the world’s greatest rock and roll band, especially as a live act in the Taylor era.

The last tour that Bill Wyman was a member of the band was 1989 Steel Wheels tour. I was 19 years old and was fortunate to see them on two nights in Dallas. After that Darryll Jones filled in for him. He has been the bassist for the Stones since. He has been the bassist for nearly as long as Bill was. I saw them in Vegas earlier this year and one of the highlights of the show was Darryl's solo on Miss You. If you haven't listened to Miss You, It's a completely different vibe but a great Banger. Another song that you gotta check out for something you wouldn't expect out of these guys is the song Heaven Off of the Tattoo You album, which many people would consider the last album of the Stones golden years. One of the best versions of Sympathy For The Devil was Dallas Texas 1989. It is on you tube. Check it out even if you don't react. Keet was amazing.

I learned to play lead guitar from copying Mick Taylor's and Keith Richard's licks on Sympathy for the Devil live on Get Yer Ya Ya's Out. Both of them knock it out of the park, and the whole band is on fire. It has a big place in my heart, and different from most people, this one feels like the real Sympathy for the Devil to me.

Another great reaction! Get Your Ya-Yas out is one of my 2 favorite live albums, 2nd only to Live at Leeds. You really should check out "Midnight Rambler" from the same album...they really brought the house down for that one. The '03 video of "Knockin'" was a winner too. The great Daryll Jones on bass since Bill left the band, and the great keyboardist (and LONG-TIME musical director for the Stones) Chuck Leavell on piano. I think you've reacted to the Allman Brothers "Jessica"...that was him too. And I always loved Bobby Keys! Not just a great player, the greatest rock sax player according to Charlie, but he has a reputation to have been a really fun guy. He wrote a book, "Every Night is a Saturday Night" which showed deep insight into his career and his close friendship with Keith and his fantastic sense of humor. A great read.

OK Lee, if you insist on diving into the music of the Rolling Stones, you leave me no choice !
    I'm now your subscriber.
Since 1969, the Rolling Stones have been called "the greatest rock and roll band in the world"...
    because they are.
I was a child in the 1960's and a teenager in the 1970's, so I was blessed to experience the greatest music in history - the rock and roll explosion that shook the world. Rock and roll music was everywhere, it was HUGE and it was fantastic !
The most popular band in the 1960's was the magnificent Beatles, who were bigger than any music artist EVER. The Rolling Stones were a distant second, but they're still the second biggest rock band there's ever been ! Their infectious rhythms, subversive lyrics and rebelliousness made them freaks in the eyes of the establishment, who saw them as a threat to society. I had my share of lectures from my relatives and teachers about the dangers of being led astray by the Rolling Stones. I certainly WAS led astray, and it was incredible !
In their earliest years, no one had ever heard music as rhythmic and provacative as the Stones, and their live performances often ended with excited teenagers overwhelming the stage to get close to them. The Stones have always considered themselves first and foremost a LIVE band, and they were THE pioneers of arena and stadium tours. Wherever I saw them live, their concert was front page news on that city's newspaper the next day.
    Their BIG tours in
    1972 - 73
    1975 - 76
    1981 - 82
    1989 - 90
    1994 - 95
    1997 - 98
    2002 - 03
    2005 - 07
all broke the record for the highest grossing tour ever.
Once they had aged into their mid sixties, they stopped doing massive world tours. In 2007, they held 4 of the 10 highest grossing tours in rock history, including number one with their 2005 - 2007 "The Biggest Bang World Tour".
I've been so blessed to be alive when rock and roll music inspired and excited the world, and for me and millions of people, the Rolling Stones are unquestionably the greatest rock and roll band ever. Amazingly, they've been with us for all of my life !
Lee, I appreciate your enthusiasm for the music that you're discovering. Unlike most reaction channels, you really LISTEN to the music. Maybe its the effect of message driven hip hop music, but most reactors are obsessed with figuring out what a song's about, like it's imperative they understand it by the end of the song.
On a first listen, what's important is if it pleases your ears and how it makes you feel. This is precisely what YOU do, and it's what makes your channel so good.
    Keep on rocking, Lee !

The studio version of Sympathy is better. The guitar work is unbelievable.

Can't You Hear Me Knocking is some of Keith's best rhythm guitar, which means some of the best in rock. I have to say that I like the studio version much more than this one, especially the jam. Mick Taylor's lead playing is so classic.

The second track was much better. More closely resembles the original recording. If I paid a lot to see this show I wouldn't have been disappointed. Great Bobby Keys sax. The bassist who replaced Wyman in 1994 was Darryl Jones.

Listened to this track (sympathy) and the original side by side. This track is just OK, but the rhythm track is missing most of the percussion elements that really made this song. And where are those WOO WOO WOOs background vocals that are a signature of the original.

I like them both, but prefer the live version. The guitar interplay between Keith R and Mick T is incredible.

Too bad you listened to the much inferior live versions of these two great songs instead of the original studio tracks. You cheated yourself out of a much greater experience.

He's already listened to the studio versions. As for the “Inferior live” version of Sympathy, this is from one of the most acclaimed live albums of all time (Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out) with one of the most legendary solos ever. That version smokes!
