I need to clarify one thing. Not all shows that use melancholic/sad music at the end to punctuate a point are Family Guy. But Family Guy will specifically use that trick to get people to sympathize with the characters even if they've done awful things that maybe shouldn't be forgiven right away. I think that DCAS is similar in that regard, and that's what the point of that comparison was. At the time I didn't think about it too much because I was on call with my GF and not in Review Mode. But I hope this clears things up! Edit: Also I didn't cry at the beginning, I'm just an amazing actress.
It’s funny how Derek and Trevor get arrested for killing animals (I think) and yet time and time again Riya almost kills people and nothing happened to her. (meaning like arrest.)
@@daemonddume408 Did Ally get consequences for leaving one of her friends with a bear? I hate how the rest of the characters were written tbh. Everyone is innocent and Riya must be evil.
@@SkylarThompson-mu1qsim not gonna defend ally on this (and im ngl msny of the characters were written poorly) but cmon there were MULTIPLE occasions where riya either left someone to die or almost killed them herself, she DEFINITELY deserves some consequences.
@@SkylarThompson-mu1qsalso riya isn’t innocent either, the show expects us to feel bad for her when she literally did all those things. like “oh it was all just an act! she is truly a good person inside!” Like no💀
@@ghostrouxinol6169 Ally becomes stupid when the writting calls for it. Example When Riya said to read each others letters so they're all on the same page. Didn't suspect ANYTHNG. Also in the semi-final she waited for Jake instead of Booking it towards the finish line.
I’m just gonna say this now, I don’t mind that Jake lost (in fact it was best way to end his character arc imo) I’m more mad about said person who won…. and before y’all say she ends up alone that still doesn’t feel satisfying enough for me after all the bs she’s done throughout the season.
It’s not satisfying if you don’t like her cause at the end of the day she still has everything she’s just lonely. Heck her losing the respect of the cast isn’t even that bad because she didn’t have connections with them throughout the show only Connor
I do agree with Riya getting almost no consequences. So, sad 18 people don't like her but she is rich and has a lot of fans. Even characters like Heather and Alejandro won but didn't get the money. And most of the things they did during that season weren't that bad compared to Riya. And they got decent amount of consequences and had some charm. Would prefer any other villain winning even Yul. But I did overall like the episode because of tiger, the challenge, and some cute moments.
This right here. People are saying riya is all alone is her karma but she didn’t really lose anything. The people who hate her she didn’t like either only Connor. Also riya no offense to Connor she can easily get someone else with her status. Like why would riya be upset that people like Aiden don’t like her?
5:28 So I'm a massive survivor fan, its probably my longest and biggest special interest to date, and I do like a lot of villains on the show, so Imma quickly comment on this. TL;DR is that most survivor villains with fanbases arent horrible people, and their actions on the show arent harming anyone on a physical/personal level or are clearly not to be taken serously. At least for Survivor (I dont touch Big Brother with a 50 foot pole), a lot of the mean/villainous characters are well liked not because theyre mean, but because theyre entertaining and/or not actually bad human beings. People like Jerri, Fairplay, Tyson, Russel Hantz, Parvati, Courtney Yates, Kass, Tony, Abi Maria, and more recent examples like Venus, Domenic, and Chrissy are all relatively well liked due to them not really taking their assholishness out of the game. The Fairplay Grandma lie is fun because its clear that his family is fine with it, and it doesnt negatively impact anyone. When Venus or Courtney bad mouth people in their confessionals, its fun because its clear that what theyre saying is either over the top, or not meant to be taken seriously. Then you have players like Scot Pauler, or Brian from Thailand, or Brandon Hantz, or Colton from One World, who are fucking DESPISED by 99% of people who watch the show because they take the meanspiritedness outside of the show, either by being overall bigots, or just crossing obvious lines. Riya falls into this category PERFECTLY. I am telling you now, if Riya was a contestant on survivor, she would be not only ejected, but be hated by the entire community. I will bet money that she would be the most hated survivor contestant of all time, outside of maybe the literal pedophile, the dude who outed someone as trans, or the dude who got ejected for Sexually harassing someone. The point om trying to make here is that even the people who enjoy the mean players on Survivor would have a death wish for Riya. Shitty rambling over.
Brian Heidik's situation outside of the show was more of misinformed, I think Shannon from Nicaragua would fit more, also if Riya had any fanbase left, it would be the type of people who praises Corinne's speech against Sugar.
@@queenzoroark honestly to this day, I still don’t understand why people like Corinne I mean, unlike Sandra and Courtney, who at least had likable things about them Corinne’s personality was just being a bitch to everyone
OddNations' favoritism of Riya is what ruined her character. They were too afraid of letting her face severe consequences for her actions and dumbed down other characters so she could come out on top. I would've preferred if Riya lost everything from her career to her friendships because it would've ruined her knowing that all the horrible things she did amounted to nothing but her destruction in the end.
i mean we never got to see what happened after that so I will assume that’s what happened, I agree heavily with this. ntm SHE SHOULDVE WENT TO PRISONG AFTER EVERYTHING WTF
What’s interesting to me was that Ellie could’ve turned out like Riya had she made it to the merge. I’m glad she was able to realize that money is still important, but it’s not everything.
Riya: The character who showed us that even when she gets what she deserves, she's still a Mary Sue. She didn't even have a genuinely positive interaction with the other contestants aside from Alec and Connor to consider them "The Friends He Could Have" Seriously, it's too disgusting that even with karma they are still very soft with Riya, she won the trillion, so her actions were rewarded, But what disgusts me even more is that the show wants me to empathize with her... Ughhhhh... Fiore has a car explode in her face, she is hit by a tree, all her efforts were in vain and she is not victimized... But this woman does? The All Stars showed us that there was a worse final than the one from the remake season...
yul: gets his face burnt, used as a shield/punching bag, gets pushed, hurt, slapped, punched, hated by literally everyone, gets laughed at when hes physically abused his backstory: the guy literally escaped NORTH KOREA riya: oh no connor got married oh nooo *sobs on her private jet* her backstory: wasnt super famous before S2 im not defending or justifiying yul's action but at least we can see where his "evilness" comes from. Riya tho? Not at all
Alejandro got burned by a literal fucking volcano, Riya got fucking nothing in terms of comeuppance. When Gabby's arm got bit by a literal fucking tiger??? I was like wow, Riya really was just plot armored all throughout this and DC just stood on all tens on it too lol.
You nailed it. Riya got off surpringly easy. She did all these things get rewarded but she’s lonely… because the rest of the cast who didn’t like her already don’t like her again? If they wanted to do the cliche ending of money can’t buy happiness have riya lose everything. She didn’t even lose that much since the others contestants weren’t even close to her
Sorry Riya fans but I don't see how you consider her a queen when she almost left Aiden to die in tge finale of S2, when she let Connor get hit by a tree branch while on horseback, going for a low blow by hitting Jake in the throat in the finale. Also add she threw a rock letting Gabby get bit by a FREAKING TIGER
*Quotes I loved from this video: “This obnoxious, detestable, two-dimensional, wannabe actress got away with EVERYTHING.” “And in a show where all of the other main villains got some form of comeuppance, it really is strange how Riya is the only one who didn’t. I wonder why that could’ve been… That’s a rhetorical question, I know why: it was favoritism.” “[…] I believe that Riya is the worst villain in any show Total Drama-inspired, Canon or otherwise.“ “Absolutely atrocious, and a terrible example of Odd Nation’s writing ability, because I know they can do better.”
@@sau7255I’m in 6th grade and I can write better😭 IMO…riya should’ve got arrested after it ended in a tie..then Jake got the money and shared with ally and others he freaked over
My theory on why disventure camp started becoming worse and worse during time is because of the tight schedule they were with trying to put out weekly episodes while makings a few of the host backstory videos while also making a ton of greetings (especially the greetings since sometimes people ask for characters to have new outfits making the animatiors make a new rig for them) and since they have all of that bunched up together I think that odd nations just took the easy way out in every way they can (like sticking to Riyas plot line and Ally and jakes rivalry and you can see that how true it is when Alec and Grett got voted out aka the only two without much of a story) Thx for reading!!
Yeah most likely. Every ep after rhe weekly thing kinda had the same format. Characters talking -> challenge announcement -> challenge proper -> winner announced -> voting time -> ending I mean every disventure camp ep is like this, but the weekly thing made it feel rushed
I don't think villains need a comeuppance, or a morally required karma. The message is more that evil people will get away with awful actions because the real world doesn't favor goodness with rewards, people choose to, and the need for revenge or an eye for an eye doesn't repair or mend wounds, and isn't helpful towards improving people's behaviour. By subverting the 'good people win' trope, the episode illustrates how the tangible material reward isn't inherently fulfilling in and of itself. Jake did grow as a person with rocky setbacks, but I agree the amends made with Allie and Tom were rushed and forced.
I understand your sentiment, my problem isn't the message, it's everything that came before. If Riya was written better, then I'd probably agree with you. The message can be anything, but the way that message and the characters involved were written ultimately destroyed any positives the finale could've had.
Honestly if they could turn Fiore into a punching bag this season for just existing most of the time and have Yul get his face burned why could Riya not suffer any consequences like that this season
I respect your opinions, and am sorry that the season didn't turn out the way you though it could be in terms of writing. I hope that the next season for you is better and lives up to your expectations. That said, if you'll indulge me I was pretty content with the finale and the season as a whole (not just because some of my favorite characters made it far), yes I would have like to see Jake win and prove Riya wrong about her methods but to each their own. That said with elimination shows I get how it is hard to please everyone, as everyone has favorite characters and those who they think are well written that sometimes don't make it. The point being, that I love how you put in your own opinions no matter what they may be, and although they contrast with mine quite a bit (as personally I see Jake as an ideal finalist for this kind of story and relate to him on some levels of paranoia) I love how respectful you are and hope that the future if you choose to watch season 4 is kind to you, and everyone else who felt that all-stars was not that great.
Did you happen to see the original elimination order(s) that got posted on Twitter? 3/5 had Ashley winning, one has Jake, and they went with Riya. We COULD have gotten Tess, Ally, and Alec as potential finalists, but instead we got our good old buddies Jake and Riya because they felt the others didn't have enough drama to hold a season. Also Miriam, a former winner who never received a single vote to be eliminated, wasn't originally planned to be on the show at all. Dan was. Remember the nerdy purple guy who got voted out first and never spoke again? They actually floated him coming back as an all star because they needed an early elimination.
Ironically, Dan in the reboot did better than Ashley in the reboot; after all, while Ashley’s alliance literally ALL got out before the merge, including her, Ellie and Grett’s switch meant Dan spent more time than Ashley in the game, and Tom and Jake survived up to the final six and five. (If we included the beta, Dan’s contestant episode count was 8 and Ashley’s was also 8). Honestly, I feel that if they didn’t bring back Ashley and Connor for the chance to show two underdogs for the final cut, it should’ve been Dan and Rosa Maria (it would keep the same gender and season ratio).
Tbh i find it kinda funny how the writers gave yul a big focus in ep 19 just to throw everything away in the finale 💀 Mf just won the money and got his happy ending or smth
It WAS episode 19 of all episodes tho, but tbf they definitely couldve expanded upon this when he was still competing Maybe when Grett broke up with Yul, he couldve stayed a few more episodes to go through the arc. But episode 19 was definitely too late.
I also hate how Krystal never even stepped in when things got bad. Like I feel like Krystal should at least give Riya consequences for what she does. Or even dare I say kick her off the show for her actions. Since I feel like Krystal should prioritize the safety of the contestants cause if something bad happens to them it would be her fault.
I find that Riya's issue was that she did stuff "for the cameras", when that is usually when people do stuff like do a little "plot twist I'm evil" only for it to be revealed "I just wanted the attention, I needed to have attraction or I would become nothing again". But Riya has always been an actress, she's always gotten that attention. But the BIGGEST problem, is that she is commiting REAL CRIMES. Sexual assault (Connor and Alek both have been non consensually kissed), attempted murder (nearly killed Connor and made Jake struggle breathing), THREATENED JAKES LIFE TO CONNOR BEFORE THAT, forged letters (faked Jakes letter), animal abuse (the tiger), caused multiple people injury (Gabbie, Yul, Connor, Ally even tho it was the shock collar challenge we all know there was malice, Jake). These are things that can get her jailed, yet she gets the million, she gets the fame, "but she's sad" SHE. ISN'T. PUNISHED. PHYSICALLY. FOR. PHYSICAL. ISSUES. Jake, was not deserving of the win, he deserved it more than Riya, but it was NOT deserved out of everyone. A lot of the cast, were dumbed down. I wish that with season 4 will be a clean slate and a fresh start for the writers to work out what made stuff like season 1 and 2 work, I really wanted to like (not even love) season 3, I'm happy it exists with its small parts of closure (Grett and Gabby, Connor, etc) but it just... hurts that for a whole season, there are only an episode worth compiled of good bits. I did like the little instagram stories of the cast just showing how theyre doing but Riya just did not get a deserved or good conclusion.
i genuinely couldnt stand riya when she paralyzed connor's legs like that was the final straw for me LOL i also dont really get why she was "evil" on cameras if thats the act she tried to go for. i think could've done nicer things in order for me to feel bad for her, but i dont ;-; also why is it that yul has to be "nicer" on cameras while riya has to be the exact opposite when on cameras? it makes no sense at all
Half the crimes you list are very out of context. She did pretty bad stuff but she wouldn't really be convicted besides like, assault for breaking Connor's leg
@@grubhubboogieman6125 I totally agree, Riya doing that was the most malicious she had done that far and was going to do a lot worse. Her issue with the evil act was that it was just an actual crime and the act caused physical harm. Yul is only "nicer" cause he only got physical in season 2 (when trying to poison Aiden) which was then reversed so HE got his come uppings. Its because the writers never gave Riya any form of physical punishment except "isolating and lonely", she never got to learn properly what her actions caused others
@@SkylarThompson-mu1qs While I agree it doesn't have to be violent for a character to learn a lesson, I'm saying that for Karma to bite back, she has commited crimes on a physical level therefore she must deal some form of physical damage. Even then, she's not alone cause we see her get a call from her sister
Knowing that she was going to possibly dislike the finale more than any past disventure camp episode was more expected, than knowing how bad the finale was going to actually be.
The finale (In my opinion) was not AS bad as some prior episodes. I was expecting something much worse, like Jake having a predictable win and Riya coming back with Connor. Even though Riya deserved MUCH worse, at LEAST she got "somewhat" of a bad ending. The only thing that would've made it ideal would be the scenario you mentioned in the video, with her getting her acting ruined, losing contact with her sister.
Yeah, it definitely could've been worse but it was still a slog to get through. Objectively, Episode 17 is probably worse, but this one is still up there.
@@Lechgang Agree! Great work on the video! Also, off-topic. How much would you recommend Inanimate Insanity? Should I just watch season 2? Or give the whole show a run? Thank you and again, great work on the video and the reviews!
@@manudetodo Inanimate Insanity Season 1 isn't that great. If you're really curious, I'd give it a go but Seasons 2 and 3 are much higher quality. It's not required viewing though.

According to Jared, Disventure Camp creator, Ashley, Tess, Tom, Alec, Grett, Jake and Ally all could’ve won the season. I would’ve liked to see Ashley, Grett or Alec to win but instead, we got Riya. How disappointing.

Honestly agree with most of what had been said here. I do still like jake and mostly that's because of season 1 and naively hoping tomjake fixes everything. Here's hoping oddnation can see the constructive criticism and put the same effort they put into all stars, to take the information and ideas forward to make future seasons great!
Wait, wait wait Jake is 27 no fucking way he’s 27. I thought he was 20 because his personality and actions of a person who is immature and still need a lot to learn and grow emotionally like a 20-year-old not a 27-year-old I was given Jake some leeway because I thought he was young but no, he’s not he’s just a baby man
Hey, Big Brother fan here and I wanted to put some perspective on your stance towards audience reception of villains in reality competitions with one of the two shows you mentioned. The players who are often considered the villains of their season such as season 2’s Will, season 3’s Danielle, season 4’s Jun, season 13’s dani, and season 19’s Paul are remembered fondly because all of the havoc they wrought was very artificial. While their downfalls in the show as it was going was likely being rooted for, all of these people are admired for their gameplay and liked for their entertainment value because they’re all decent people outside of the game. However, the show does have very hated figures regardless of if they’re villains or not, such as most of the cast in seasons 15, 19, and 21 due to most of the cast on those 3 seasons being meanspirited people at best and hateful racists at worst. Riya might be labeled as a villain if her gameplay was on the show, but her horrible actions and worse attitude towards others would make her the type of player that the live audience would actively boo at rather than cheer for when she leaves the house win or loss (which has only happened once before and Riya is frankly even worse of a person than the one this happened to). Her behavior alone would drag the quality of any season she’s a part of in its entirety down considerably, especially if she’s not an early boot.
Ok, watched the vid. Jake's relapse in episode 18 DOES NOT undo all of the development that Jake has had prior. The point was to show that development isn't linear, and that there will be times where he relapses on bad behaviour. In that episode, notice how Jake quickly realised that he fucked up when he insulted Connor. That's quick self-reflection and evaluation Jake hasn't done before, in his previous relapses. Lastly, Connor quitting was his own fault and decision. I've talked about this extensively in ep 18 discussions so I'm not going into that again. Most of the cast aren't siding with Jake cos they like him (e.g. Ellie and Fiore), they're siding with him cos they hate Riya. "except the audience", urmm, have you not being paying attention to most of the f2 polls with Jake dominating Riya. Jake been having the public on his side lol. Also, Riya's karma is fine, she lost her real connection, Connor, forever. and she has no real friends. Giving Riya a hollow victory like this is very interesting and I'm glad that ONC went with this route. I don't particularly like Riya either btw. TDAS better than DCAS ??? Yeah, I disagree with the entire review tbh. Last point, I enjoy DC for the serious and realistic character developments/stories + strategy. The comedy (imo) has NEVER been a strong point for this series, and I don't think it needs to.
Iryo. Although I will say, Jake dominating Riya in the polls is a little dubious. Because all things considered, neither of them are particularly well-liked. I'm sure if he were against someone like Grett, he'd probably get beaten pretty badly. The point I tried to make is that 'in general' the audience isn't very fond of him, in comparison to Riya he looks a lot better because- Everyone looks better next to Riya.
@@Lechgang Honestly, I think you're underestimating how popular Jake is. Sure he definitely has alot haters, but his hatebase is not bigger than his fanbase. In a hypothetical F2 with him vs Grett, I think the general support would be near evenly divided (even when Jake is being deliberately written to be problematic).
@@Lechgang I agree with you over the other guy but jake is VASTLY liked compared to his hatebase like the other person said and its NOT CLOSE. Whats crazy is we're the vocal minority but Jake and Tom could literally do no wrong in most audience(discord/patreon/youtube live chat especially) eyes for some reason. I feel iffy on the whole "this finale being intentionally unlikeable" narrative people paint... because Jake and Riya are quite literally their genders most popular characters by a wide margin across all social media except like reddit.
I wish the whole Jake vs Ally thing never happened. Like, at first I got it, but near the end of the show it got a bit played out and had it not happened, we may have gotten a better reason to care for Jake as a finalist
Exactly this. If Riya hadn’t turned them on one another with so much ease you’d think one of them called the other a slur off-camera, then I would’ve appreciated either Jake and/or Ally. However, after seeing Ally fall for the fake letter and Jake not telling Ally that Riya must have wrote it (Ally BROUGHT UP it was “sus” that Riya brought the backpacks to them in the first place), Riya became my top pick.
Everyone became so stupid especially ally. She’s been with riya so she would know she’s done these tricks. Heck Jake also fell for it. Connor also stupidly did nothing to call riya out in front of everyone
Jake and development goes together like my ass crack and sandpaper. Jake showed SOME improvement in All Stars but not enough for him to be portrayed as the real winner of Disventure Camp. I thought I loved Jake after episode 13 but I unintentionally lowered my expectations because he stopped doing things that annoyed me. I genuinely liked Jake in episodes 13 and 15 but overall, he was half and half. But I can at least tolerate Jake SOMETIMES and understand why he acts the way he does. Riya.......... Not even in the slightest. I knew she was gonna win due to Odd Nation going for more unpredictability with how some eliminations went(ex. Gabby and Grett). But the overall moral of the season being "money doesn't buy happiness" is utterly ridiculous. I thought Riya was decent at most in the first half of All Stars. Sometimes annoying but I can bypass it. Not anymore. Her being all alone after everything she's done does not make up for anything she's done. The favoritism towards Riya is actually unacceptable imo and it ruined any sort of engaging and cohesive writing that could've happened otherwise. I felt completely nothing from Riya's win; however, I don't think either finalist deserved to win by how much both of them did in All Stars from looking at as a whole. To be fair to the episode, there were some scenes I liked(Hunter and Ally after Ally was disqualified, Alec and Fiore anytime they were on screen together, Ellie and Gabby after Riya caused Gabby to get hurt by the tiger). That's just a few scenes but that cannot and will not distract me from how bad of a final episode/finale period of a series like this.
@@Yoshixandir Alec turned into a pathetic bigott, Tom became a total moron who's personality was only "Pwease Jake, I wanna apologize", Ally to me was fine, but her good moments were pretty late into the season and doesn't excuse how insufferable she was sometimes, Gabby was a mess, Aiden was only love triangle bait, Connor was good but he did felt a little writer's pet sometimes, Ellie did bad things, totally changing her morally grey persona
@@salsapina218what’s makes thing even worse Jake and Aiden were gonna get 11 10… so then he got promoted to winner. They revealed the changes to the places and it’s surprising
Ok I want to see a podcast of MK, Julia and Yul. The idea Julia had of starting a pod cast, interviewing famous people and just talking about themselves to drive the interviewee insane and interviewing was great and I would pay to see them just chat and joke with each other as Yul SEETHES from the complete lack of attention.
Aside from Riya winning, I enjoyed the finale mostly because of Gabby and Ellie, Jake and Ellie’s moment of friendship and Alec and Fiore’s scenes however the thing that stuck out the most to me other than Riya’s win was how AWFUL Tomjake is and how dirty DCAS did Ashley 😭 When I first saw that Ashley was in DCAS I was excited as I think she had tons of potential! She could interact with Fiore more, we could learn about her backstory (which we did but for like 1 line that had no pay off) and maybe see how her farm life and survival skills are an asset to her! In DCAS Tom was the main survivalist and leader of the Cyan team and I think Ashley should’ve gotten a similar role for Magenta, and Tom and Ashley could even form a bond over their survival skills! In episode 1 of DCAS we see Ashley not hold a grudge against what Ellie said in the interviews (which I thought meant Ashley doesn’t hold grudges and would try to have a fresh start with Fiore), I thought this would lead to Ashley and Ellie becoming friends and Gabby and Ashley could even get along because of their love of animals! :D 🌈 So color me surprised when Ashley doesn’t interact with Ellie and Gabby AT ALL and only says Ellie deserved her elimination and Ashley DOES hold grudges ESPECIALLY WITH FIORE WHOS A CHILD 🤨 Ashley’s ENTIRE character this season was being Jake’s therapist, diffusing Jake and Ally’s arguments and being a plot device for Tomjake. And that last one was made ESPECIALLY clear this episode…when Ashley was picked to help Jake I was ecstatic, she could potentially win money to help her farm and we see the Jake, Ally and Ashley friendship come full circle! But then she refuses….SO TOM CAN HELP JAKE AND WE CAN GET YAOI…..😐 Tom and Ashley do become friends like I suggested..but because of their connection to Jake, ITS LIKE ASHLEY HAS NO CHARACTER OUTSIDE OF JAKE??? The writers do not care about Ashley as a character and that upsets me, she deserved WAY better writing and deserved to have a character outside of Tom and Jake. Anything Tomjake related could’ve been resolved in the miniseries and we could’ve focused on Ashley as a character!! Justice for Ashley! :C 💔
You mentioned that Jake needed to be called out more in this season. I think back to the cave rant in season 1 with Ellie calling out Jake for being a sponge for drama, and I feel like that rant would’ve been better fit in All-Stars. In season 1 Jake wasn’t even that bad, and when we first see him have issues with Tom, it was understandable because Tom was revealed to be a spy and it’s understandable why Jake might not feel he’s trustworthy because of it. In All-Stars, Jake embodies everything Ellie said to him in the cave a lot more after everything he did in this season
10:56 Oh my god- Jake is 27... I mean, it makes sense when you think about it, considering his love interest has a high-skill job, but... I IMAGINED HIM TO BE LIKE 17! YOURE RIGHT! JAKE DOESNT ACT LIKE A 27 YEAR OLD. OMG My mind is blown
Honestly that’s funny none of them wanted him to win especially Aiden va. However that also really indicates that Jake really shouldn’t have been the main “protagonist” this season and should’ve been out at merge like he was supposed to in the first 3 drafts
ur so right about disventure camp taking itself way too seriously like almost every episode someone has a sob story to tell and im just like BRUH WE GET IT
Looking back at this it really confuses me how they were able to give Fiore consequences when she won in her ending from the Beta season 1, yet Riya got nothing of the sort.
3:34 see the problem with comparing DC and total drama is that they approach for entirely different tones, TD is kind of forced to give their villains karma bc they can't give the wrong message to their young audience, but the truth is sometimes bad people get away with stuff, they don't always get the proper punishment equal to their actions, and it's easier for those situations to hit close to home, for a show that aims for a more realistic tone I think it's totally appropriate
I understand that that's the idea behind Riya's win, but ultimately- does that matter? There's this game called YiiK and the protagonist is a scum of the earth terrible human being. That's the point of his character. Does that make him well-written and worthy of praise? No. He is insufferable, and actively lowers the quality of the game to such a degree that it is nigh unplayable. DC definitely could've made the point that 'sometimes bad guys win' and have it work. But the audience needs to ENJOY the journey there, and I personally did not. Imo a show should NEVER try to annoy its audience unless there's a satisfying payoff or something thought provoking to take away from it. in DC's case, that message is muddled because of how poorly written Riya is. Iryo though.
I get you sometimes the show can't decide if they should take injures seriously or not and it ends up with their characters looking like complete psychopaths(rip emily), if they toned down her murderous intents I think her ending would've felt more fitting
I can't believe they actually had Riya win. I don't see how anyone finds this ending satisfying. I agree with you that she should have been mauled by the tiger. She needs more punishment than "wah wah I don't have friends." I think after this video I'll go watch TDI's final 3 episode as a palette cleanser. I'd be watching a much more well written character get an actually satisfying conclusion to her story. The ending you gave here would be so much better. I don't really have anything to add about Jake and Tom. I just don't even care anymore. I feel so drained from watching the finale and I think I gave up caring about anything but Riya's downfall a while ago. HUGELY AGREE THAT TDAS IS BETTER! Same with Survivor All Stars! I know that's not a written show but...yeah. At least S:AS has an actually really cool story around it's final 2 and some good gameplay. And without it we wouldn't have one of the best players to ever play the game. I'm going to watch season 4, but I'm not going to expect anything good. As much as I'd love for this to be an exception, just another All Star season to add to the pile(it's easily the worst of the 3 I've seen btw), I'm not getting my hopes up after this absolute travesty. What baffles me more than how incompetently written All Stars was is the fact that it came from people we know can do much MUCH better than this. But now that I know they can do THIS bad? I don't know. The only reason I'm going to watch season 4 is because I've been watching this show with a friend of mine that I also watch Survivor with. If I wasn't, I wouldn't bother watching season 4 probably until long after it was relevant, if at all, because of just how bad season 3 was. And it's not out of spite or anger or anything it's just... how am I supposed to actually want to watch what comes next? After DCAS has now become my actual least favorite media. I know I probably will watch season 4, but I just really don't want to.
Not just that Ashley was going to win in 3 version however version 4 is when they changed to Jake being the winner however because none of the proofreader wanted Jake to win they had to settle for riya since she was the only other option at that point for villians
5:01 this honestly. In a world where karma is not only a real thing that affects characters in the show, the fact that Riya never gets her karma comeuppance, is a slap in the face to any and everybody who took the show seriously.
its crazy how odd nation doesn't know how to write characters fr. like why do all their older characters act like they're kids. especially that whole derek, trevor, and kristal love triangle. it gave too much high school
At least TDAS was funny, creative, gave the villain karma, and had a deserved winner. Mike and Zoey are genuinely good people who worked hard, and despite Zoey’s stupidity, neither of them were Jake/Riya/Ally level annoying
6:37 Good. I think that Eesha realizes how Riya turns into an awful person and that Eesha plans to have a different career so that she doesn’t end up like Riya. Not to mention, the negative effects on Riya’s family which they decided not to interact with her anymore because of what she did. And it was international TV, meaning that everyone will see the mean and cruel actress, and Riya will never had any one again. And to be honest, A winner shouldn’t be pick by favoritism, it should be pick on who deserves to win or who can make it.
I really think yul would have made a way better character to take up the riya role. They could have given him more depth and learn more about his path to understand him more. Unlike riya, yul winning would make him TRULY alone. Not just the loss of the people he competed with on the show, but also all of his fans who stopped supporting him after finding out despicable he really is. It also wouldn't be double finalists which is a plus.
I feel the writers need to get away from the characters being complete idiots to get the drama or strategy to get through. It is incredibly irritating the characters act as though they were lobotomized before coming on.
Once again, you are so right! Ever since Connor’s leg thing I was expecting Riya to get cancelled or stop getting acting contracts but then they showed she won a bunch of awards ever since the show and I’m like: “who the fuck keeps hiring her?” Also I wanted Jake to help Ashley with the farm but oh well subverty spaghetti Hopefully people give season 4 a chance since they promised to take into account all the criticism and suggestions, fingers crossed
The thing that annoys me most about disventure camp all stars is not that it could have been written way better, it’s that it WAS written way better but once we hit merge, every likeable or entertaining character like Ashley, Gabby, Grett, Yul and especially Ally were either eliminated immediately to make shock value or were completely changed in their writing to force a storyline people weren’t as interested in like ally just becoming a girl who can’t go 2 minutes without fighting Jake or Yul becoming overly obnoxious way more than earlier in the season purely to boot him. It went downhill and curb stomped every character people had hope for yet carried the ones no one cared about or were sick of and made them the golden children that get everything they want in the story and get to the end through plot armour so transparent it may as well have been a window
I think the issue was originally Jake was gonna be out at merge however because of changes they then had to move Jake to a winner spot which means to awkwardly change things around to make Jake last longer then he needed because in the first 3 version Jake was out at merge and weirdly enough riya and alec were gonna get 4 and 3 with Ashley being the main winner for 3 versions. However something happen where they some reason promoted Jake to winner status and gave Ashley the merge elimination. It’s the reason if you watch the season Jake is almost involved in every single drama because they had to inset him in. Which also explains why so many story arcs got cut short because they had to put Jake in the forefront for many episodes. Ironically, riya was also a last minute decision to win because none of the proofreader especially Aiden va hated the thought of Jake winning due to how he was in early game and they just didn’t want him to get rewarded with the money so they practically encouraged to go with riya winning because they found her a lot more interesting and she was the only villain within the changes (originally it was gonna be Jake va ally with riya getting 3rd but they didn’t want all heroes winning)
Hi, I recommend a fanmade series where Jared also participated from 2016 called Total Drama Stars Battle, where the beta designs of Tom and Fiore appear. For me it is a very funny series and superior to DCAS.
DCAS started off so dang well, the first episode was written so well and really made me exited for the rest of it, but we all know that didn’t last well.
@@friedchickeniszestythey only should’ve just let Jake lose at merge like what they originally had planned. The moment they changed the order where now Jake was gonna be a potential winner instead of Ashley things just got worse and it also makes sense when you consider how Jake got the most screen time out of everyone in almost every episode
Also, I love how if we just swapped Jake and Ashley in the elimination order as intended, the concept of the loser won in reality would’ve worked much better. (Also on a side note, imagine if the DCAS 20 elimination was changed last minute and it delayed the episode by a week just so Riya could win.)
Riya is basically treated like a deity to the writers. She almost always wins and is infallible. She's a writers pet. (Also can we talk about how the ending is like Cars)
Seriously Riya got off easy compared to every other antagonist in Total Drama and Disventure Camp. Why does it matter that Riya‘s lonely when she has kept the money, her career and her the admiration of her younger sister.
I agree with everything you said about riya and your definitely right we should've gotten an ending were Riya faces karma. the episode wasn't perfect but it was memorable I personally enjoyed the finale despite some things they did to Tom since I feel like they changed a lot of his character so that they can have them end up together - speaking from a person who ships the two. yeah Jake and Tom should've waited so that they could actually fix their problems. don't get me wrong I think Jake did grow a little better but still. I will forever miss the cast.
Is it the best season ever? Is it the best finale? Is it the best it could be? Definitely no. But even tho some episodes were a bit lackluster, i enjoyed the finale. The lesson is a bit cliche and god knows how much i wanted Riya to suffer even more, but i’m ngl it got me really emotional and i quite enjoyed that last episode. Your criticism is really fair and you made solid points but tbh they didn’t bother me that much
I cannot believe I live long enough to see commentary of someone saying something positive of Total Drama All Stars... I mean by comparison I can see the positives too
I need to clarify one thing.

I wouldn't prefer Yul winning, I don't like Riya winning but at the same time I kinda understood why.

Me too honestly it’s one of my favorite character elimination shows of all time
Me too I love Toadal drama
My theory on why disventure camp started becoming worse and worse during time is because of the tight schedule they were with trying to put out weekly episodes while makings a few of the host backstory videos while also making a ton of greetings (especially the greetings since sometimes people ask for characters to have new outfits making the animatiors make a new rig for them) and since they have all of that bunched up together I think that odd nations just took the easy way out in every way they can (like sticking to Riyas plot line and Ally and jakes rivalry and you can see that how true it is when Alec and Grett got voted out aka the only two without much of a story)
Thx for reading!!
Yeah most likely. Every ep after rhe weekly thing kinda had the same format.
Characters talking -> challenge announcement -> challenge proper -> winner announced -> voting time -> ending
I mean every disventure camp ep is like this, but the weekly thing made it feel rushed
@@pantaticecream It wasnt really that rushed considering every episode had 1 less player, minus the obvious ones
LUCKILY THEIR IS A DISVENTUROUS GUY
Thank you
From the totalest of dramas to the familiest of guys😔
@@yellandrewpads9013 Rosa didn't come back because her voice actress didn't want to come back. Connor was brought back because of that.
Tbh i find it kinda funny how the writers gave yul a big focus in ep 19 just to throw everything away in the finale 💀 Mf just won the money and got his happy ending or smth
It WAS episode 19 of all episodes tho, but tbf they definitely couldve expanded upon this when he was still competing
Maybe when Grett broke up with Yul, he couldve stayed a few more episodes to go through the arc.
I was not ready for the Toadal Drama jumpscare...
Ngl i kinda wanna hear the full DC=Family Guy rant
I did like the little instagram stories of the cast just showing how theyre doing but Riya just did not get a deserved or good conclusion.
i genuinely couldnt stand riya when she paralyzed connor's legs like that was the final straw for me LOL i also dont really get why she was "evil" on cameras if thats the act she tried to go for. i think could've done nicer things in order for me to feel bad for her, but i dont ;-;
also why is it that yul has to be "nicer" on cameras while riya has to be the exact opposite when on cameras? it makes no sense at all
Half the crimes you list are very out of context.
@@Mx.Showstarter Having no real friends though is a punishment. Not every character has to be mauled to get their lesson learned.

Knowing that she was going to possibly dislike the finale more than any past disventure camp episode
was more expected, than knowing how bad the finale was going to actually be.

According to Jared, Disventure Camp creator, Ashley, Tess, Tom, Alec, Grett, Jake and Ally all could’ve won the season. I would’ve liked to see Ashley, Grett or Alec to win but instead, we got Riya. How disappointing.
Disventure Camp discussions before: "Which is better, Disventure Camp or Total Drama?"
Disventure Camp discussions now: "Which is worse, Disventure Camp or Total Drama?"
I hate how it's turned to that because REBOOT SEASON 2 IS *AWESOME* ACTUALLY!
She’s like if GinaMarie won
@@Lechgang I think you won't be happy until Riya gets mauled by something when her hollow victory karma was ok.
@toxic__boy987
uh ohhhh, jake fan alert. would not be saying any of this if they werent a jake fan, alert.
I can’t wait for your object show reviews
What didn’t help is that Jake got better but because everyone else got worst
@@Yoshixandir Where did they reveal it?
@@salsapina218 how is Alec a pathetic bigot?
Ok I want to see a podcast of MK, Julia and Yul. The idea Julia had of starting a pod cast, interviewing famous people and just talking about themselves to drive the interviewee insane and interviewing was great and I would pay to see them just chat and joke with each other as Yul SEETHES from the complete lack of attention.
Aside from Riya winning, I enjoyed the finale mostly because of Gabby and Ellie, Jake and Ellie’s moment of friendship and Alec and Fiore’s scenes however the thing that stuck out the most to me other than Riya’s win was how AWFUL Tomjake is and how dirty DCAS did Ashley 😭
When I first saw that Ashley was in DCAS I was excited as I think she had tons of potential! :D 🌈 So color me surprised when Ashley doesn’t interact with Ellie and Gabby AT ALL and only says Ellie deserved her elimination and Ashley DOES hold grudges ESPECIALLY WITH FIORE WHOS A CHILD 🤨
Ashley’s ENTIRE character this season was being Jake’s therapist, diffusing Jake and Ally’s arguments and being a plot device for Tomjake.
And the fact that this release the same day as INANIMATE INSANITY EP 16 witch is one of the best ii episodes is baffiling
10:56 Oh my god-
Jake is 27...
I mean, it makes sense when you think about it, considering his love interest has a high-skill job, but...
I IMAGINED HIM TO BE LIKE 17! YOURE RIGHT! JAKE DOESNT ACT LIKE A 27 YEAR OLD. OMG
My mind is blown
If Riya was gonna win, they should've had her lose the money like in the beta in Fiore's ending
my first thought when i watched this episode was "man lechgang is gonna have a feild day with this one"
Fun fact: Jarred wanted to make Jake win, but the proofreaders told him to make Riya win last minuete because they didn't think Jake earned the win.
Honestly that’s funny none of them wanted him to win especially Aiden va. However that also really indicates that Jake really shouldn’t have been the main “protagonist” this season and should’ve been out at merge like he was supposed to in the first 3 drafts
@@Yoshixandir I agree had they swapped out Jake with Ashley like in the original boot order it would have been way better
ur so right about disventure camp taking itself way too seriously like almost every episode someone has a sob story to tell and im just like BRUH WE GET IT
She’s also the worst character… ever. In the history of fictional characters, she’s the worst.
Looking back at this it really confuses me how they were able to give Fiore consequences when she won in her ending from the Beta season 1, yet Riya got nothing of the sort.
FR, Fiore literally got hit by a bus, A 6 YEAR OLD GOT HIT BY A BUS!! While Riya received nothing as cruel, if not, worse than that
3:34 see the problem with comparing DC and total drama is that they approach for entirely different tones, TD is kind of forced to give their villains karma bc they can't give the wrong message to their young audience, but the truth is sometimes bad people get away with stuff, they don't always get the proper punishment equal to their actions, and it's easier for those situations to hit close to home, for a show that aims for a more realistic tone I think it's totally appropriate
That Sonic TDI clip is one of the many bombs you can drop about a show. Insane how that's a real product.
I know I probably will watch season 4, but I just really don't want to.
lechgang, they posted all original elimination orders and the 1st ever f3 is CONFIRMED TO BE ALEC, TESS AND ASHLEY
10:57 HUH?! NO I *REFUSE* TO BELIEVE THAT NO HE IS NOT 27 NO JUST NO 😭
Ngl, this is my favorite episode since the beginning of merge

Good.
I’d rather have Kai join the final 3 last min and win than riya, AND HES LITERALLY MY LEAST FAVOURITE
The montage of some of the happy lives was nice for me. But im sad the show's writing got so bad that the final scene made me feel absolutely nothing.
The fact that in three OG versions of this, Ashley was the winner. It would’ve been a way better ending than what we got.
Jake's ending where everyone becomes friends with him kinda feels rushed, tbh.
I feel the writers need to get away from the characters being complete idiots to get the drama or strategy to get through. It is incredibly irritating the characters act as though they were lobotomized before coming on.
Fuck... That family guy comparison just put the entirety of DC into perspective for me. And why it's just kinda whatever overall lmao
Once again, you are so right! Ever since Connor’s leg thing I was expecting Riya to get cancelled or stop getting acting contracts but then they showed she won a bunch of awards ever since the show and I’m like: “who the fuck keeps hiring her?”
Also I wanted Jake to help Ashley with the farm but oh well subverty spaghetti
Hopefully people give season 4 a chance since they promised to take into account all the criticism and suggestions, fingers crossed
For me, ONC don't listen to their fans and when they do, they only listen to their Patreons which is not even 50% of the DC community
DCAS started off so dang well, the first episode was written so well and really made me exited for the rest of it, but we all know that didn’t last well.
yeah it makes me sad cause i had hope for this season
