    When you said "Kerrygold" I jumped out of my chair. To be clear I was remembering the happy moments in a relationship long past when I gathered apples from 2 trees (and only) next to our home and made apple pies with a recipe from an "Amish Cookbook" (some of the most delicious baking ever). My gift to her and her response was to have me prep/make/cook the apple pies. And some years later I stumbled on Kerrygold and I dare say I have never tasted butter so delicious. I have often stated that we spread Kerrygold on bread because to eat it with a spoon would be "Crude" and should only be done discreetly. Happy and delicious memories, thanks for the lift darlin.

    There is a local cheese factory that only uses milk from grass fed cows. I am not sure if they sell butter as I eat very little cheese.
    You are right about the roundup problem and its one reason why I wanted land. Im tired of black garlic and potatoes from the round up farms.
    Pie looks good!

      Fy Nyth let me be the first to confirm lol be careful the apple variety you use!! My pie ended up as more of a compote because I chose a variety I was not familiar with. So the apples let off WAY too much juice. Still delicious but ended up using it in a bowl topped with ice cream instead.

    I just really enjoyed this video, hon, and I think you are quickly becoming one of my favorite UA-cam channels.
    That pie looked scrumptious! I imagine you grew up learning to cook from some very talented ladies.
    Just for curiosities sake, not being judgmental in any way, you have mentioned in a couple of your videos that growing up your family did not celebrate holidays. Is there a special reason for not doing so? I love learning about how we all can be so different yet so very much the same in our "humanness". I personally believe there are many ways to live a beautiful and happy and loving life. What one person celebrates and another does not should not be an issue. It's the living of one's life in a good and uplifting way with love and respect for all that is important.
    So, sweet girl, I'm not going to wish you Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah or anything like that but I do want to wish you an abundance of God's beautiful blessings on your life and those you love.

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  7 років тому +9

      Thanks! My parents were not a fan of most holidays due to the history of pagan traditions that got turned into "christian" holidays when Christianity officially became the world religion under the Roman empire. So it's just not a tradition or habit I have any attachment to. :) It doesn't offend me at all that others have celebrations they care about or have wonderful memories associated with them.

    • @deborahmcginnis8307
      @deborahmcginnis8307 7 років тому +4

      Fy Nyth Thanks Ariel for your reply. Your parents are so right about the origins of these holidays. I've just begun to study all this in the last few years and it's amazing what I didn't know about how Christmas and Easter originated, and I'm sure many other holidays too.
      Our family still celebrates the " holidays " with family get-togethers and such but we try to separate what is man-made from that which is God made.
      Blessings to you and yours.

    Betty Botter bought some butter, but she said the butters bitter, if I put it in my batter it will make my batter bitter, but a bit of better butter in my bitter batter will make my batter better! Try saying that fast lol bbbbbbb 😃😂👋🌏xx

    Hi Ariel, thanks for the video. You're comments about milk are spot on. In Australia we can now get A2 milk which doesn;t have the offending offending milk protein (the A1 protein), and so is much easier on the stomach. I don't know if you can get it in the US yet, If you can I recommend you try it. It is very hard to go back to normal milk once you have tried A2 milk.

    Nice video Ariel , I'm actually on a completely grain free diet , paleo, so I use a lot of nuts coconut oil (for making my own chocolate bars , with stevia and raw honey for sweetness) and almonds for my own version of bread which also has the following , flax seed, tapioca flour, arrowroot flour, and I also now add one cup of banana flour which doesn't taste like banana but really makes the bread more "bread-like" I use seeds as well , sunflower, chia, sesame and the bread tastes great! if you want the full recipe I'll mail it to you

    It would be super cool to have a shot at the end of your videos of the food being cut/scooped into and placed onto a plate or in a bowl. We would see details like how yummy it looks inside, steam lifting from the food, and if its a dessert we could see a scoop of ice cream start to melt over the apples and cranberries and crust. A nice close up of the dish on the counter or table. Oh my goodness I am drooling now! Ha ha! Anyways, its just a small idea. Keep up the good work! Love your videos! :)

    +Fy Nyth : I often squeeze just a little fresh lemon juice into the Apple mixture for the pie to cut the sweetness and freshen up the flavor. It has the added benefit of keeping the apples from turning brown before it's placed in the oven to bake. ;-)

    As someone who lives in "Wheat central" it would be highly unusual to use roundup as a dessicant. Wheat, generally all ripens at the same time and does not shatter out of the heads if left standing while low spots ripen. If uneven ripening occurs it would be more likely to cut the grain with a swather and let it lay in the swath. Roundup, at least around here is used as a burn down before seeding. Not necessarily the case everywhere but that is the usual here in Sask. Canada

    • @robberntson8934
      @robberntson8934 7 років тому +1

      Also, I should add that I have farmed organically since 1985 so have no dog in the fight about Roundup. Would not use it even if I did use chemicals .

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  7 років тому

      Not trying to argue, but I think Canada may handle it differently. I see desiccants of some kind used in the fields closest to me for sure. And it seems that at least some portion of US farmers do use that. Though the use for other weed killing concerns me as well.... I don't know all the reasons for everything, I just experiment on myself to see how I feel with different things. :)

    • @robberntson8934
      @robberntson8934 7 років тому +1

      Not a problem. I was just saying what I have seen here in Canada and also northern ND. I have seen Roundup used as a dessicant but that was on peas. I suspect that you are right and there are different regs between the 2 countries. Never checked it out as it didn't interest me as I wasn't using that stuff anyway. Have a fine day.

    I have canned both butter and ghee (clarified butter) with no health issues.
    On most store bought butter the package states no protein so a water bath works, but I still pressure can, just to be safe.
    Been doing it for 3 years and am still alive.
    Note mix salted and unsalted butter half and half.
    Have you found an Aldi's or Sharp Shoppers type place out west?

    Enjoyed the video, but now I hungry for pie. I remember the first time I made a county apple pie recipe. The apples were piled high and I struggle to fit the top crust on it. When it was done baking the mini mile high crust was a gorgeous golden brown, but when I sliced into it there was a cavern of space between the top crust and the apples.

      indie825 - i have pears, cinnamon and brown sugar, but i must resist for now. I'd like to try the kerry gold butter.
      Wisconsin is cooking up something against it. It's dairy country after all, but KG is fairly pricey @ $4.99 per brick since it's imported. I don't see a problem. US butter is cheap. Ill order it online from A_zon.

      Cook the apples prior to placing them in the pie crust for baking, add top crust and bake. There will be no space between the top and the apples.

    I'm the same when it comes to dairy, drinking milk that's out, I use it for my cereal but there is only enough in the bowl so I'm not eating dry cereal. The worst offender for myself is ice crème gives me gut pains, I love butter never have any issues with it I eat too much butter.

    Noticing in previous comments some are disappointed she didn't show us her slicing into a pie and tasting it on camera. When she said she was not going to use a pie crust, I must admit to some skepticism, and would liked to have seen the engineering marvel of making an apple pie without the pie. I must admit I was disappointed as well, but not surprised. She pointed out halfway through making these pies that they were not solely for herself at Fy Nyth but she was planning on sharing the pies with coworkers and friends. When sharing something this special, it's proper and customary to present the full pie and cut into it with the company sharing said pie. So that would not be on camera. We must remind ourselves this is not like professionally made cooking shows where the dishes are made for show and are probably disposed off camera. Even tho I can't recall seeing cooking shows this entertaining and enlightening since Julia Childs. She's using actual daily chores from her life as opportunities for sharing her knowledge in these videos. So the end results are practical and functional. There's plenty going on in Ariel's life off camera that we'll never see, and that's probably for the best. We are only left to envy those who appreciated the pies. Some mysteries are best left unsolved. Still.. how do the apples stay together without a pie crust bottom? The mind boggles.

      @FyNyth  5 років тому +1

      The apples just cook together as the pie bakes and then once cooled a little, they stick together just like in any pie. :)

      @@FyNyth you're magical! If I tried that I'd have a bunch of unhappy chopped up apples looking up at me. One of em would probably even cuss me out.

    # I LOVE your Videos : ) I enjoy your recipes and agree with you about the ratio of fruit to crust in PIES. I LOVE the fruit fillings; however Pie Crust is not only 'fattening'; but it gives me indigestion. Do you have any Pie Crust recipes that are Tummy Friendlier ?? You LOOK Like an Identical Twin to my own precious Daughter : ) : )

    +Fy Nyth : I was told long ago to avoid margarine and those types of fats. Doctor and even the dietitian told my parents (who both have very specific diet needs) that real butter is much better for you than the "alternative" versions (like margarine). Our family tends to buy the _Challenge_ brand (which has no GMO's, etc.) or the Amish roll style butter. I have purchased the _Kerry Gold_ brand when we're at the grocery store. However, 99.9% of the time, the butter we use is made fresh from the Amish and we buy it from them directly at their store. After getting rid of a lot of the synthetic stuff they put in food these days, it has made a distinctly noticeable difference in our health. Our garden and locally sourced food is our way of procuring the ingredients we use in our cooking/baking. In fact, I can't remember the last time I purchased a national brand of bread. I actually could taste the chemical in a loaf several years ago and that effectively ended me buying bread from the grocery store. I either make it from scratch or buy it from the bakery (where they make it with whole ingredients). What a difference! I no longer can tolerate commercially baked products (like Wonder Bread, Aunt Millie's, Etc.). So I am 100% in agreement with your (aim for the most nutritious, healthiest foods) approach!

    • @FyNyth
      @FyNyth  7 років тому +2

      Nice! If I lived near anyone who sold fresh butter, I'd go that route for sure! And I know exactly what you mean, after you stop eating that artificial "food" stuff for a while, if you do go back, most things taste like chemicals.

    Hello Ariel, love your videos I have tried 3 of your recipes! The chili, the cornbeard, and the apple crisp. The Apple Crisp is my favorite 😍.I have a cooking QUESTION now to ask you. Please tell me do you meal plan? If not, then how do you come up with your meals each week? Where do you get your easy recipes from? I do believe it was the actual planning of cooking enough to have left overs that I hated more than the cooking itself. Any feed back from you on this would be helpful. Thanks a lot.

      Wonderful! I'm so glad you like it. That might be a good topic to cover. I don't usually meal plan. I generally look at what I have available, what's in my garden, freezer, pantry, on sale at the store, etc. And then think of something I can make with what I have. :)
