***** Makes me excited and nervous at the same time for the movie version coming out. The musical was so powerful and I really hope they can capture that in the movie.
Into The Woods is my favourite Sondheim production, and I think Bernadette as the Witch was the ultimate perfect casting. That whole cast was absolutely divine.
Absolute flawless! Everything that Bernadette Peters sings is perfection - carefully crafted and performed. She has such a unique soprano voice. Her timbre is very bright and silvery and she applies her own signature to every piece she performs. Once she has sung the song, it can never be performed by another with the same brilliance and craft of which she performed it. She is truly 'Saint Bernadette'.
Nobody sings the song like only Barbra Streisand can. Barbra breathes life to her interpretation of the song, letting the listeners understand the soul of the song that the composer wanted us to feel.
This song makes me cry every time at the end of the DVD. I'm having tears in my eyes just watching this. Because this is one of the strongest of Stephen Sondheim's lyrics: "Careful before you say, listen to me: Children Listen". Because they will.
Careful the things you say children will listen Careful the things you do children will see and learn Children may not obey but children will listen Children will look to you for which way to turn to learn what to be Careful before you say listen to me Children will listen Careful the wish you make wishes are children Careful the path they take wishes come true not free Careful the spell you cast not just on children sometimes the spell may last past what you can see and turn against you Careful the tale you tell that is the spell Children will listen Guide them and step away children will glisten Tamper with what is true and children will turn If just to be free Careful before you say listen to me Children will listen Children will listen Children will.. listen..
Even though it's not necessarily a sad song, this always makes me cry. "Careful before you say 'listen to me'", these lyrics are perfection and Bernadette, as always, was made to sing Sondheim.
I love this song especially because I am a parent. It's amazing that such good advice comes from the witch. But as in life, I suppose all is not always as it seems. Bernadette you are beautiful xx
Unfortunately, because of the children whose lives were so terribly altered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas school on Valentine's day of 2018, I'm hoping a major change happens in our country and we will LISTEN TO OUR CHILDREN. In a time where the adults of this country can't affect any real change, these kids give me hope that real change can and will happen. R.I.P. to the 17 kids that lost their lives that day. Let's not let their loss be for naught.
How many times has Stephen Sondheim hit the nail on the head perfectly in various songs in all his work....it just astounds me....a body of work unequalled in our times...….for that I Thank you..
Bernadette Peters is the Queen of Broadway singing! This song always makes me cry when I sing it. She is a Sondheim specialist and a superb singer. There is nothing she can't do!! She's a wonderful dancer, actress and performer!
I love her voice! She is so perfect, especially for the role of the witch! If they ever make an 'Into the Woods' film, she had better be cast as the witch! I know she's older now, but she can certainly still sing just as beautifully as before!
I posted the video above because of the impact on infants of a mother's interventions. It is all about listening and understanding the impact of mother's on their daughters and then on their children.

Every life-lesson one needs to learn can be learned from a Sondheim musical.
Particularly if that musical is Into the Woods. It's amazing how this one manages to touch on every aspect of life all at once.
Beautifully put, Jesse.

I've got one for ya. Sweeney Todd: Never hold on to the past. It just might drive you round the twist ;-)
So true...
I’m going into teaching this year, and this song is such a powerful reminder... children may not obey, but children will listen.
Hope it’s all going well !!
This song has SUCH an important lesson. Into the Woods is an amazing show!

Oh, that song always makes me cry when I hear her sing it. Something about it. Wonderful talent she has.
I just buried my brother-in law..A great musician ! He always said every life lesson you will ever need can be found in Sondheim's music .
she could sing the Alphabet Song and make it sound amazing
Yeah, no kidding! She would make it sound like a masterpiece

@@MrDanamp I love her as well
you might be a lil obsessed brad lmao
I disagree. Though she's brilliant. I know a performer who needs to be heard in her rich mezzo soprano voice.

RIP Mr. Sondheim
Her song interpretation/delivery is always so full of meaning. I love her. My favorite stage actress/singer.
Even though it's not necessarily a sad song, this always makes me cry. "Careful before you say 'listen to me'", these lyrics are perfection and Bernadette, as always, was made to sing Sondheim.
My favorite song ever in Into the Woods. Sondheim musicals are just full of life lessons.

+Vanessa Brennan Not a parent, but! I've always been inspired by this song and especially the lyrics. Very moving.
well i mean... Witches can be right, giants can good. You decide what's right, you decide what's good
I would only expect good advice to come from a witch. She is the scapegoat in society, as in this musical.
The play does say that witches can be right
Her voice always gives me chills
Such a beautiful song and sung with such heartfelt emotion by Bernadette Peters.
this is perhaps the most beautiful song ive ever heard
Back here tonight in Memorium, Rest in Peace Mr. Sondheim.
Shame on me for learning about this song so late. Utterly beautiful.
I cry every time she sings this song😭
That extra stanza at thee end is so important, and a much better choice than putting it in place of "children may not obey"
She is amazing and has such a presence on stage! I just love her! Saw her in "Into the Woods" and she blew me away.
I love my Bernadette Peters. Theres nothing she can't do.
So beautiful, and she is crying by the end. Same, Bernadette. 🙌🏼

I almost cried when I first heard this song...its so true...I love her
may as well start the tears.
love her vibrato. Her voice is so angelic.
Don't make a better world for your children, make better children for our world
no but uh a better world would also be nice, I mean I can't speak for everyone else but no Global warming would be nice
Better children= better people
Better people= better world

Why not do both?
Yellow Unicorn this is a beautiful comment
This song hits me right in the heart
This is literally the most heartbreaking moment in theater.
Watching her in concert was one of the highlights of my life.

Such a clever and profound song
She sings as good as she still looks. It must be clean living that makes her age gracefully.

With the current political situation, this has an even greater meaning.
At least, it does for those children who manage to be born.
