This is really helpful! My background is in planning & zoning-specifically zoning analysis. Analyzing zoning data has really peaqued my interest in pivoting into GIS, and have been considering a technical certificate. But i will first begin with ESRI's free courses before I invest $8-$10k into the technical certificate course. Its also super badass to see women (like you!) in GIS. Im a new subscriber to your channel. 😆🌐🌍
I graduated with a degree in art history and minored in anthropology. I learned some GIS in a geomorphology class and realized there are valuable ways I can incorporate GIS with my educational background since I am a lot more interested in working with an archaeological team. I'm looking into ways to obtain a GIS certification that would be useful for a future career in mapping archaeological sites for surveyors, museums, and other teams who collect site data. I found this video useful and now wondering if there are specific software and certifications I should be leaning into for my goals? Thanks for the informative video!
Question, so I have a BS in Environmental Science and specialization in GIS ( like 3 classes) currently in the military. What is better, go for the masters in GIS or a certification in GIS?
It’s hard to say without talking to you. Happy to do that in my 1:1 coaching! What I will say is that the biggest thing i would say is ensuring that you can demonstrate GIS mastery. Unfortunately, I see many students coming out of degree programs, and what they excel at is following a tutorial.
I’m not familiar with a class for GIS for real estate. I’m sure one exists. I am happy to work 1:1 with anyone though to meet their goals. I have done a few day long sessions with organizations to get their team up and running on GIS
It is so hard to answer that without knowing more about your situation. A GISP is seen by some as having a lot of weight, it is seen by others as being more about "book" skills than practical. Its really up to your goals.
