Interesting. I just bought a PB2000 several months ago and I was debating between that and the SB2000 and even the PB2000 Pro. I really like it and will go dual eventually, but I’m considering going with a PB2000 Pro for my secondary. Was I better off with 2 SB2000’s? I know not to mix sealed with ported. I normally use my home theater for gaming, TV, movies and a little music. I always thought sealed were more musical and ported were more impactful. What added to my confusion is why do ported almost always cost more than sealed? Maybe I’ll try a sealed one day just to experience it.
Cost more than sealed because it costs more to make. Your paying for a bigger sub with louder output and typically lower extension than its equivalent counterpart
@@Kpaceguy I see. Thanks. I assumed since it cost more, it was automatically better. Seems like sealed different and can even better in certain situations. Keep it up.

Hey Kyle, I have a couple questions hopefully you can answer. My receiver has volume levels below and above 0. I can either choose to have the volume displayed in negative decibels, or positive numbers. If I use positive numbers, is "reference" level considered the highest volume level? The same would be for negative decibels, is "refrence" level 0? Another question, while watching movies, is it common, or even safe to watch movies at reference level? Thanks for your help!
It's safe to watch movies at reference so long as your speakers and ears cam handle it. Set your receiver to negative and turn it up to 0db "reference". Then switch it and to positive. That number is your reference level
@@Kpaceguy got it. G22 is what I was looking at for music thinking a 12 would be faster than your 15. But I’m very curious to see what your review will look like. Very excited to see what you think!
Just wanted to know if you have used the rule of bringing rear subs out 6 to 12" away from the walls? How difficult is the dual woofer sub to place for the right sound? Still thinking about the sealed subs .
I've never heard of that rule. The dual sub seems to be the same difficulties with sound as a Ported sub. The challenge for me is having 1 sub in general. It's been hard with one sub
Great sub, congrats! But it's not really a fair comparison to your previous PB-4000. The Rythmik G25hp has dual 15's with 1800 watts and a MSRP of $2450. The SVS PB-4000 has a single 13.5" with 1200 watts and a MSRP of $1899.99.
I think a lot of it also has to do with which sound you prefer, one not necessarily being better than the other. I went from a pb 1000 to a sub 2000. Let’s just say I wasn’t a fan of the sb for movies. Music was great but I felt the sb was lacking that impact I got from the pb, even though I went up a level. Needless to say, I ended up getting a pb 2000, and now I have a pb 3000. I just prefer how ported subs sound for movies. I love my pb 3000 for music too, but I’m sure a good sealed sub would sound better.

I recommend stepping down a model and getting 2 if you can. 2 will be better especially in a large room. If you can get 2 g25hp it's night and day difference
Placement is a MAJOR part of it. My RSL speedwoofer destroys my sealed 18” in the same location (not corner loaded). Due to room layout ported wins in my domain. Not always the case though!
Don't waste your time figuring where to place 1 subwoofer, just get 2 subs (place one by the screen and the other behind your seat) and you'll get 3 db louder and better sound.
@@mrpmj00 Seating is up against wall, and the sub in the corner on the seating side that has a closed wall/corner... sounds most blended and as if it is not there. So 1 works well, but 2 would be better, if need be. I hear no need.

Congrats on thinking outside the box and not staying with mainstream perception. Next look into a properly tuned aperiodic enclosure which is still sealed basically, However there is a restive membrane that can be tuned to eliminate the impedance curve that is inherent to sealed enclosures. Depends on the room in my opinion, any sealed sub is going to sound anemic in a large room (20x20feet or larger) for movies when compared to an equally priced ported one. However in smaller closed off rooms I would definitely be more open to either design.

@@mrpmj00 the passive radiator subwoofer is equal to a ported subwoofer assuming you have 2x the surface area of the main woofer. Passive radiator subs are always more expensive than ported due to the fact that passive radiators are more expensive than plastic tubes and a bit extra wood to account for the loss air volume of the port taken up. Good ported subs will have low enough port velocity to not get chuffing. Personally I have 2x HSU vtf2-mk5 ported subs with 1300w peak with a 12" woofer. They came with port plugs but they just don't have the same kind of feel with them plugged up compared to the 1 port tune that gets me decent output down to 15/16hz. However the main reason I say sealed subs in a large room will sound anemic (in comparison to ported) is due to room gain which is extra output that is added based on the largest dimensions of your room. Pretty much all sealed subs will start to roll off at a certain frequencies and the hope is that the room gain starts where your subwoofer rolls off. Whereas ported (or passive radiator) naturally have the output and don't rely on room gain to make it work.

Lol as far as the pb4000 vs sb. I say go pb4000 and seal it when necessary
@@Kpaceguy yup 👍🏼 put the SVS port plugs in when listening to music.🔊
NAH! Go Rythmik over SVS all day. IMHO!
once I listened to sealed sub my ears can't go back to ported subs. I own dual svs sb-1000 pro.
Told you.sealed all the way.
I run 3 sb4000 and a paradigm reference sub 15. All sealed. Ported def has the output edge but sealed just sounds smoother to me.
Maybe the difference you noted is because the Rhythmic subs are servo subs.
Most likely
Keep it up.
@@infinitesurge9641 I appreciate it
If you get a sealed and ported , if you tune it right and place it well, it can be the best of both worlds.
Hummm what sealed subs to get🤔 the struggle is real my friend!! Rel and Rythmik intrigued me the most Kef's are pretty cool too But I gotta try out dual sb-3000. I might just have to get them all and send back whichever ones I like the least.
That's some big money lol
@@Kpaceguy Starting from scratch in my vacation house great room for HT+Music. I'm having a tough time pulling the trigger on everything. Decisions Decisions
I'll save you a lot of time... either dual RELS or dual RYTHMIKS
I’d sure hope a $2700 sub sounds great lol😅
Hell yeah for $2700 it should also vacuum the floors lol
@@Kpaceguy Or make love to you....😃
Keep in mind many don’t
Yo we’ve all done that at some point when playing a game or enjoying the HT 😆

Hi kpace, do you keep the sub in a corner, how do sealed subs respond when placed in a corner?
I don't put them completely tucked into the corner but sealed subs do better than ported in corners
Just wondering, although you have deeper extension in the lower frequency range, did you drop a bit of tactile response moving away from ported? General consensus seems to be higher particle output on ported gives that extra TR
You feel it more on a ported sub but it doesn't sound anywhere near as good. Fair trade in my eyes
@@Kpaceguy please do a demonstration Sir!!!!👊🏽🙏🏾👊🏽🙏🏾👊🏽
I have a video called "what is reference level"
Why did you not get the E22? It also has dual drivers and half the price. If it was available in white but you have gotten it?
Because it so doesn't perform nothing like the one I have
@@Kpaceguy got it.
Ported subs
I've never heard of that rule. The dual sub seems to be the same difficulties with sound as a Ported sub. The challenge for me is having 1 sub in general. It's been hard with one sub
Great sub, congrats! But it's not really a fair comparison to your previous PB-4000. The Rythmik G25hp has dual 15's with 1800 watts and a MSRP of $2450. The SVS PB-4000 has a single 13.5" with 1200 watts and a MSRP of $1899.99.
He was running dual PB4Ks.
It’s a fine comparison from the standpoint of trying to figure out if the extra cost is justified.
How much power did your sealed sub have? I'm thinking maybe your sealed was underpowered.

Would you recommend 1 G25HP in large room 17’ x 30’ ? I had pair of SVS pb 2000 pro
@@mrpmj00 Sadly I have no space behind the couch. I am running one ported (monolith 16) and two sealed 12’s up front. Sounds weird but it works well. However, I am now bored of the setup and ordered dual G25HP’s. The monolith is incredible, but it is ugly as sin and messing with my decor vibe.
Awesome.. 🤭
Most crazy high end subs are sealed you just can't do it properly with the cheap ones so you need to spend maybe a thousand?
Congrats on thinking outside the box and not staying with mainstream perception.
Next look into a properly tuned aperiodic enclosure which is still sealed basically, However there is a restive membrane that can be tuned to eliminate the impedance curve that is inherent to sealed enclosures. I run a couple 12" Morel Ultimo's in my car with a couple membranes and I've hit down to 12hz with them.
Next should be the proper tuning of having BOTH a sealed and ported

Anthony Grimani, formerly of Dolby, would disagree lol.
Good speakers don't need ports.
Depends on the room in my opinion, any sealed sub is going to sound anemic in a large room (20x20feet or larger) for movies when compared to an equally priced ported one. However in smaller closed off rooms I would definitely be more open to either design.
lol, maybe the sealed subs that youl istened to had underpowered amps or not enough speakers.

Whereas ported (or passive radiator) naturally have the output and don't rely on room gain to make it work.
its simple, for the most part, sealed for music and ported for movies!!! sealed will never move the air and hit the lowest than a ported!!
I can't say that I agree 100% ported will more than likely play louder but lower, not always the case
