Well done, great video. It's easy to understand. I think I could do that myself, too. 👍

      thank you!
of course you can do it. the problem is that most people don't have that specialty tool to open the gears lock (sprocket opener).
and to really open the freehub, we need another 2-tooth wrench socket-like tool, which I didn't have. that's why I had to limit the freehub repair to spraying it with White Lithium Grease.
I will buy the freehub lid opener tool for the next time I decide to open it all up for the maintenance, possibly in a year or so

Feels good to repair your own stuff. I hate paying other people to do something I can for for free. Looks like it is a good bike.

yes I will buy another tool with 2x 3 mm square key teeth on the opposite side of the 21 mm circle for the next round, so that I can fully open the freehub.
for now this partial disassembly worked and the bike works really well and smooth.
I actually made that tool from the wrench socket 21 mm using a grinder, but the freehub was so tight I failed to remove the inner lid, even with a leverage. I almost opened it, and then my wrist slit on something sharp and I thanked God for not cutting my wrist veins. that's why I stopped there. maybe the tool I made wasn't precise enough or the metal was too soft and couldn't undo the locked lid. now I have a scar on the wrist, and it is still yellow, after being swollen and blue. luckily I immediately applied the ice, and then alcohol.
I bought the Trek commuting bike when I worked in London for couple of years 15 years ago. and believe it or not I never serviced it for 15 years, and it was working well. of course I did lubricate the chain and gears from time to time.
the bike is made from alpha aluminium, and all the parts are hardened stainless steel. I only upgraded the pedals to stainless steel from the plastic ones, and I upgraded the steering bar from the alloy steel which was spotting rust, to the aluminium bar. everything else is still original, the leather seat has no signs of wear despite the bike is used every single day quite heavily. it also still has the original 15 years old Bontrager tyres. the steering post and few other components are made from beefy cast aluminium alloy. indeed it is really a bike for life.
I had a few punctures, because the asphalt roads in tropics are steaming hot, and even small sharp stones can easily cause a puncture.
what I did was (and it was my own idea / invention, not sure if anyone else does it), I cut the 2-3 mm cowhide strips, and I put some talc inside the tyres, and then I laid the cowhide strips inside the tyres, and only then I put the inflatable tubes inside.
ever since I made this little hack, I had not a single puncture, even when I ran into a big shattered glass area, the pieces of glass were poking into the tyres like a hedgehog, I pulled them all out, and there was no puncture.
I think I will have to show this hack in the future video, but I'm a bit lazy to remove the wheel and open the tyre. I will have to force myself, sigh
