Fluoride Youth I wish I knew. This has happened before with other videos I liked. It’ll pop back up sometime, I just hope it doesn’t take years like it sometimes does
I remember hearing this and it stuck like glue in the memories of those days were we were making the music not some pop super star creations for the masses of consumers like sadly today....those were magic times indeed....
I was a so cal high school student listening to KROQ when this came out. It sounded so alternative weird back then. Now it sounds kind of mellow as far as alternative goes.
I remember this song being controversial when it came out, the band wanted airplay but got flack for saying 'genital's' in the song, which was taboo back then. They claimed they were saying 'my janitor' the whole way through, not genitals. KROQ played it all the time, especially Jed the Fish! Great song, great band... Where is Su Tissue??
I believe thee terrible audio quality adds to the genuine authenticity of who the suburban laws truly are!! It just seems like all of this just work so well with this song
Can you re-upload this, but with the normal recording? “Janitor” is the gateway to their legacy, and should be distributed/preserved in it’s full form.
So the owners of Night Flight own New Wave Theatre and they are trying to market a streaming service of Night Flight. They had most of the New Wave Theatre videos taken down and got youtube to shut down the accounts of people who had posted them five plus years ago.
I love Su's choice of dowdy clothing... it just looks so sexy on a woman like her. And the straight long hair in the age of new wave hairspray just separates her from the crowd and adds to her uniqueness. Obviously an acute thinking brain inside.
The punk/new wave look at the time went for what was then perceived as dorky or nerd styles. It was to be in contrast to 'ultra cool' flashy looks that the mainstream thought were cool but the punks found to be tiresome and safe and mostly something prepackaged and designed, ie, corporate schlock trendiness. It was a rejection of everything that you 'supposed to like' and assumed to eat up without thought like many did. These nerdy or dowdy styles had the extra fun of confusing the typical brainwashed public. Punk/new wave was heavy on ironic twists. They might pretend to look like hollywood stars at times but to those informed, they knew it was an ironic mocking of big celebrity. They might have some cool hollywood sunglasses but really they were nothing but cheap punks with 'no talent' who were up to no good. The punk new wavers might have dork clothes but their music and subjects were at the time plain full out disturbing and offensive. They might look like buddy holly but it was a buddy holly on crack and needing a fix. That's not to say that buddy holly was safe. Buddy Holly played a solid body electric guitar which to many serious musicians meant junk, a child's toy. Punk new wave harkened to go back to a certain danger and throw away culture of early rock n' roll. There were no grand rock operas and masterpieces. But then again, punk was all about the irony. They said fuck art but at the same time they did the best art. Another note on Su's dowdy look. She looks like a woman from some old psychology educational movie from the 50's. Some woman who might have had a lobotomy, hence the catatonic state. Or a woman who is a catatonic schizophrenic. At the time people didn't have access to such movies but there were books. Books with black and white photos of uncomfortable looking people with clothes fixed in place as if to give them normality. People in mental institutions were hardly fashion plates or fashion conscious in the least and probably had donated clothes at times. Then there's the classic norman bates persona of the punks. David Byrne of the talking heads put this on much in their early days. You might say that Su is a female norman bates character; odd, stiff, hiding something and don't turn your back on her.
So im a millenial yada yada yada but i found this band and fuck me dead. Theyd be perfect nowadays. I feel cool just that i found their old shit. tried to look up su tissue and shes basically invisible.. apparently nonone will ever know who she is... theres literally nothing about her on the internet.
There used to be a better quality video of this that was taken down. This is my favorite version though so I’ll take it!
Yeah where did that go

Su Tissue fascinates me. A true original.
She reminds me of Nina Hagen, which is a sentence I never imagined typing

Live sounds better than studio. Nice!
In the Fall of 1981 Mike "Five Point Plan" Damone, had the poster up in his bedroom. Pretty rad!
the director of Fast Times did serious research...which is why its the most realistic 80s high school movie.

OH for a straight up video of the band without a cameraman who thinks they are working on Citizen Kane... The band is enough.
