      Hi Teryn my family and I are moving to Frisco in may .we are excited and nervous at the same time, coming from a cold state to a hot one can be difficult, I've heard about snakes and scorpions being an issue ..😬 As a virgo I find it very hard to make friends who share my interests because most people classify me as boring because on a Friday I'd rather be at barnes and nobles haunting for a new book than at a bar.Never had 1 single friend in my life after my best friend and I split almost 20 years ago.Its my dream to find a best friend before I turn 35 and I hope to do so while in Dallas .Thank u for such an in depth video

      That’s so exciting! Frisco is really nice, I spent some time up there. The Star has a lot of things to do. I followed the news pretty closely and never heard much about scorpions or snakes, but an occasional bobcat or mountain lion - not to scare you! Is it never too late to make friends and there are plenty of bookworms. Maybe there’s a book club local to the area that may meet on Zoom for now that you can look into. You’re welcome! I’m so happy this video is helping people! I wish you and your family a safe and stress-free move!

      You're welcome! I'm happy to help! A lot of people introduce themselves and their family in the Nextdoor app so that might be a good way to start out and also joining the groups in there to see if anyone shares common interests with you. I definitely believe you'll make friends!

    Just told my mom that I'm seriously considering leaving NY and moving to Texas. She, born and raised in Texas, said "it's too hot there. I don't like heat."
    Well, currently living in NY is very expensive and I need a change.

      I hear about a lot of people from NY to the South! There are a lot of transplants all over and from all over. It's definitely hot, but worth the money saved I think.

    You did great on your review of Dallas. Coming from NC and years in GA, the biggest thing for me to adjust to here was the lack of trees(especially in the northern suburbs) and it being flatter. Other than that, I love it!

    What people must understand when they move to Dallas is that it is a segregated City or still suffering from the after-effects. The northern part of Dallas is majority-white and Mexican mixed in with blacks and other ethnicities. The southern side of Dallas is majority-black mixed in with Mexicans with also majority-black suburbs. If y'all move to Dallas and want to be around your people move on the southern side of Dallas

    • @TerynAParker
      @TerynAParker  Рік тому

      That is the case with most cities in the South and really all over the U.S. I am aware of the demographics by area; I researched it before I moved there.

    • @labaroncharles1958
      @labaroncharles1958 Рік тому

      @TerynAParker yes maybe I'm wrong but it sound like you insinuated although you did say there are black people in the southern areas of Dallas, that doesn't have a black culture if you live on the southern side of Dallas you are going to feel like you're in any majority-black situation in the south like Atlanta you can shop eat dine and do everything else around people that look like you. I grew up in southern Dallas my schools were majority-black my church was majority-black and the only time we saw white people was on TV our police were black and the mayor was black we never used to go to the Northside of Dallas. Dallas natives are southern people we share the same dialect culture and cooking as anywhere else in the south so I can't see what the difference is even with you coming from South Carolina. But if you up in the north you have blacks from everywhere across the country so so surely they might be different.

      @@TerynAParkeryou also didn't mention Desoto, Lancaster and Cedar hill tx majority black suburbs as destinations for blacks where alot of the middle to wealthy people live in Dallas. But maybe you didn't know this at the time

    • @TerynAParker
      @TerynAParker  Рік тому

      That wasn’t the purpose of this video. I’m actually very well aware, but most single people are not looking to head to the suburbs when new to a city.

      @TerynAParker  Рік тому

      You are wrong. You also don’t know me. Please do not seek out an argument on my video. Based on your username, I will assume you were born in 1958. Your experience is not the same as everyone else’s. You are also not teaching me anything. Southern dialect, culture, and cooking varies by region actually. It’s interesting you say that as a Texan.

    What are your thoughts on Oaklawn area of town? Is it safe for a single female? Walkability and access to restaurants and shopping, etc.? Thank you!

    • @TerynAParker
      @TerynAParker  3 роки тому +2

      I like Oak Lawn! Yes, you can walk to restaurants and Kroger. 4123 Cedar Springs is an apartment complex I remember being pretty close to everything in that area. There’s not as much for shopping, there is a thrift store nearby. I would say to be careful walking because it’s near the airport and people drive a bit wild. I would say it’s a safe area. Dallas is a big city so of course crime rates will be higher. I recommend to use the LexisNexis Community Crime Map to anyone to see what’s going on in the area you are or want to move to. Getting a Ring Doorbell and using the Nextdoor app are very helpful too. I hope this helps!

      Hello, I can help a bit as I’m from NC and have lived in Atlanta and Dallas. Both Dallas and Charlotte are similar in that they are great places to raise a family and have great job markets. With that said, keep in mind that Dallas is much larger than Charlotte. Charlotte is more compatible to Austin TX. Google the Metro population and not the city limits. It’s really going to come down to what you are looking for and proximity to family etc. I just wanted to point out the size difference and it’s not an Apple to Apples comparison.

      From what I know you can find more affordable houses in the greater DFW area than in Dallas proper. Arlington, Fort-Worth, Richardson, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Mesquite, DeSoto, Denton, Plano, and many other cities are near and affordable. It depends on what you’re looking for of course. There are a lot of new townhomes in the city now.
