  • Leak Routes Between Routing Tables | VRF's Part 4
We've been very successful in keeping customer routes separate with VRF's. We've even extended this across the core using route-targets, route-distinguishers, and MPLS.
What would happen now if we wanted to share some of our routes with our customers?
This is called route leaking, which we can achieve once again with MP-BGP.
There are a few challenges along the way. What if we want to share all routes in a VRF? What if we want to be selective? And how do we prevent customers from advertising rogue routes?
In this video, we'll see how to configure route leaking and export maps to to share routes between VRFs.
This includes a lab you can follow along with.
You can download the labs, and practice on your own if you want (Patreon).

Part 4: Route Leaking - VRF's keep routes separate, but what if you have some important services to share? How do you share the routes then? With Route Leaking!

Your calm and steady voice, this is what makes me absorb the content much efficiently.

Thanks again for another great video, I again had some configuration I needed to work through, with a customer now requiring some shared service access, read a lot of documents in vrf route leaking and got 95% of the way there but your video again helped me put the final puzzle piece together and connectivity is now working at least in my lab. I'm glad I immediately thought of your videos when I got stuck and checked if you made one

wow I managed to get it working on a much bigger lab, I have never used vrf and I'm thrilled that I could follow this through and not make a single mistake, I need to document myself much more on vrf tho

Great, I love this channel in this video I can learn about share the common route to each customer and filtering route from customer.
finally I understand that unable to solve the route overlapping, 10.10.0.0/24.

If you were to export a default-route from Shared Services into the Cust VRFs would this allow CustA and B to speak via the Shared Service VRF? How do you deal with importing a default?

In Juniper this is basically L3VPN so I assume this is the case in Cisco.
Any plans on how to route leak using virtual router instance

    • @NetworkDirection
      @NetworkDirection  2 роки тому

In juniper, a routing-instance is the equivallent to VRF-Lite.
VRF exists in both, most commonly L3VPN, but can be L2 as well

Which terminal software and platform are using to create the lab?? Please keep it up! Good job!

I've been using VIRL, but you could use GNS3 or eveNG if you wanted.
The lab files are on the website. They're made for VIRL, but the configs are separate files, so you could copy the contents into the lab platform of your choice.

First of all, thank you very much for these great lessons, much appreciated! Second of all, what is the font name of your Core routers?

I can't remember the font. I'll try to dig up the source files and find out for you.

The ping to 192.168.10.1 is not working from CustA-R1, export and import are is fine as i can see routes on both VRFs. Debug ip packet gives "FIBipv4-packet-proc: packet routing failed" on CORE-1, Any ideas?

How do you find VIRL? Also, what material would you recommend for studying VRF/MPLS? Thanks for the vid. BB

I find it to be quite good once it's up and running. It's a bit of a pain to get installed and configured. Apparently there's a free edition too now! Haven't tried it though.
I don't really know which materials are best for MPLS/VRF. I've watched the CBT Nuggets videos on MPLS, but beyone that, most of what I know comes from reading Cisco's documents.

How is it possible to create an account on your website? I just can find login with Facebook or LinkedIn.

Facebook and Linked In are the only options right now
Honestly though, you won't get much out of creating an account. You can use it to leave comments, but that's about it

I've just finished updating the website. There is now an option to login with Patreon, if that's something you're interested in
