I once met one of these beauties in Buffalo, NY . He was huge & very approachable (stayed calm, cool & collected).i asked his handler (very nice LEO) if I could pet him & was given the ‘’okay’’. He was a true GSD ! Acted like a real gentleman! He came outta Czechoslovakia (Germany won’t sell theirs anymore). Officer told me they had just returned from a hunt for 3 guys on a robbery rap. The k9 corps. was called in. The suspects had holed up in a corn field (this was in Oct.). The Officer & The Brute ! exited their car, the officer walks to the edge of the hiding place !, yells out : “got my dog here, come out with your ,etc. etc.! Or I let him loose.”In the distance the LEOs see 3 pairs of hands raised high. He told me most ‘’bad guys’’ do not want to face the dog. I agree ! May God bless our k9 corps everywhere ! 👮🏼⭐️
@lastlineofdefence35, my thoughts exactly; there does not seem to be very much control once the canine is released. Even toward the end of the video you can hear commands, but the animal continues to be aggressive. I really must err on the side of caution and ask if this is warranted. People using trained animals to take down another human without, what it would appear to be, a whole lot of control. I'm not sure that I can agree to this as it may remind some of Eastern oppression, dogs used!
I really hope you’re never in a situation where you could use one of these protective experts to aid you & perhaps keep you breathing another day . I was once owned by a GSD . I was safe anywhere. He gave me instant obedience (no formal, professional training -just his innate/natural love for me). One dark night out for his walkabout, I saw 3 teen boys (I was 17) in the distance. Very unbury street, not too well lit. He was off leash, up on a knoll sniffing his heart out. I whispered his name, bounding down to me he same, the boys calmly got off the sidewalk & slowing over to other side of the street. I don’t know if they would have harmed me (it was the ‘50’s, after all ) but I was thankful I had him, yes all 125lbs. of that beautiful creature.
Well, if the suspect surrendered, the dog will not be released. That is for the safety of officers. By the way there is a case in US officers have to kill the dog to prevent further harm the suspect.
