    This is so cool. I live about 30 minutes from here. I've never went on the trails. I'm excited to go now. I'm new to backpacking and I think this may be my first trip.

    Great video. Done Shawnee a few years ago in the summer and it was definitely an eye opener to the hills Ohio can offer.

    I drove through Ohio over the summer on I75 and it was FLAT haha! Glad to see you found some hlls! Day two turned into a slog I imagine after 20+ miles, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Looked like an enjoyable time for the most part!

      Yeah we were VERY surprised by the elevation here too - crazy!

      The entire southern and south east 1/3-1/2 of the state is quite rugged. It’s part of the Appalachian mountain range. North western and west central Ohio are quite flat which is the part you drove through, with the exception of Cincinnati in the far south.

    Wow! That looks super clean compared to the Logan Hollow trail at Tar Hollow, I did both loops in mid September, overgrown and unmarked but challenging hike for sure; Shawnee, Mohican, Zaleski, and Vesuvius are all on my must to do list

    Nice, I grew up in that area, went there often. But that was before my avid hiking/camping days, as I live in the N IL area. Love the video, maybe get back there some day, we'll see. My knee does not like a lot of elevation changes these days. :(

    I had relatives in Zanesville ( Kirkbride) and we would go on visits .

    I know you didn't stay there, but did you get a sense of how good camps 5 and 6 might be? I was thinking of doing an overnight, maybe a there and back to camp 6. Thanks.

    If you guys go back stay at camp 6. It's the nicest one there. It doesn't have potable water, but there is a creek you can filter from. We got eaten alive at camp 2 with chiggers a few years ago, so cool weather is defiantly the time of year to go to Shawnee.

    Thanks for sharing, shame you had to cut the trip short (probably the right decision) looks like an excellent trail and the drone shots really showed the beautiful tree colours.

    Watching now.....i was just there a week and a half ago and did the entire loop, still editing. Only flew the spark once at one of the few but amazing overlooks.

    • @SchillBrothersOutdoors
      @SchillBrothersOutdoors  7 років тому

      How was the north loop compared to the south?

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish- 7 років тому

      The north loop is very similar. The best view in the whole place was on the north loop. Ya, I agree about camp 3 being the worst. Camp 1 was nice, camp 6 was the best, and 2 and 4 were ok. To bad about all the fog, but at least it cleared up a little for ya. Loved that story about the search and rescue...that just about happened to me but luckily i got cell service in the nick of time, lol, and we had a buck snorting at us in the middle of the night at Red River Gorge just two nights ago....freaked us out, but good stuff!

  • @arcana1973
    @arcana1973 7 років тому

    Wow. Isle Royale seems to have left you scarred for life.....Also, one time I was on a trail talking to an older retired couple. They told me a story how they were on a trip and didn't check back with their family on a Sunday. Their kids called search and rescue to find them, but they didn't need rescue. They had brought extra food and decided to stay another night out because they could, and didn't want to carry the food back

    • @SchillBrothersOutdoors
      @SchillBrothersOutdoors  7 років тому

      Yeah I think I'm going to wear this scar as a badge of (Isle Royale) honor for my entire life it seems. The S.A.R. guys seemed pretty cool with the situation at least - I think they were just happy they didn't find the guy dead or in danger or something.

    People like to talk about how flat Ohio is, but I ask them have they ever been to Southern or Eastern Ohio. Tons of Hills and what can be considered mountains.

    • @Ryan-kp1eh
      @Ryan-kp1eh Місяць тому

      Yeah the southern part of Ohio by the river is more like Kentucky or West Virginia

    That's a good spot , we hunted it years ago during early muzzleloader season but you better have a scope and you better know how your gun shoots cause it's a big area!

    I thought you stole Gary for a second there at 0:29. That's crazy about SAR coming out, I bet that bill is going to be pretty nice for him when he get's back. Stop flying drones you're making me want to go ultralight in my wallet.
