the first one is really beautiful! I think personally I would've put darker ties like dark green or dark red or even black, maybe in a velvety fabric or something
Ooh I love that! I was in a bit of a time crunch and grabbed my white ribbon, but next time I'm at the store I'll see if I find something I love more like you suggested!
I liked the addition of you showing celebrity photos and explaining how the technique was used in their garments (or not used as the case may be). That was a great way to get the information across.
Wendy!! Thank you so much for choosing my suggestion and taking the time to make the dress! 🥰Even though the end result isn’t exactly what you would have liked, I learned so much about pleating and the construction of it all through your experience. Looks like I’ll have to let this dress go.. Perhaps some dreams are only meant to be dreams 🥲
Hi Irene!!! The suggestion you sent was so pretty, we had to give it a try! I think if I had a round two on this dress I could have achieved a much more satisfactory outcome, ✨ learning experience ✨ thank you so much for sharing it with us!!
Ahhhhhh I was the one who sent the Mirror Palais dress!! Thank you so much for choosing my suggestion because it truly is one of my dream dresses to make. It looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait to make one of my own. Thank you, Wendy! ❤
As someone who has no knowledge of pattern making and barely any knowledge in using the sewing machine, your explanation of slash and spread and its uses on various dresses is SOOOOO easy to understand What do you wear under the black dress? It's so seamless!
I love the white inspiration dress!! But $625 is … I would rather make it myself too lol. Wendy you did an amazing job as always. I love watching you recreate garments! You’re so inspiring ❤️ and talented!!!
I popped more photos of me in these dresses on my Instagram (withwendy) and that's also where you can follow if you want to submit your ideas next time! Love you all and hope you've been well
love 🖤 And, whether didactic or chaotic, all is good content if it's wendy content imo. Been watching your videos for years and your videos have always been inspiring. Just FYI 💐
I wanted to say that the Scarlet Johansson dress uses French darts in the bodice. They are a really great way to give a snug fit around the bust and ribs with a more relaxed fit around the waist and hips. I find them to be incredibly comfortable and flattering. I think her skirt would have looked less awkward if they would have moved the darts to her side seams. Great, fun video, Wendy!
Since watching your videos I've started looking at clothes and seeing all the techniques you've talked about and figuring out how it was made. It's been great fun :) The other day I even realised I know how to fix my old shorts really easy and was so happy!
I absolutely love how to explain and break down the pattern manipulation for these dresses. I am new to sewing clothes and patternmaking and its very helpful watching you explain as you sew.
I soooooo appreciate when u talk about the techniques you’re using and give all the different examples! Even though I’ve been sewing for years seeing all the different ways a single technique can be used is so useful!
What a cool idea for a video! The black dress turned out amazing and I‘m really happy you showed us the whole process of the blue dress. I still think it looks cute, but it really may not be the most wearable. On a feedback note: I love that you have subtitles! If it is possible, I‘d like to ask for someone to maybe go over them again, because there are a bunch of missed words (Lutterloh become glitter low for example). This and the missing punctuation makes it a little hard for me to follow. I can do it for you if you want 🙈
Both of the dresses are so cute. The black one is my favorite. I love the fabric you chose to make it. I agree with you that the blue dress was a bit short and, in my opinion, just a bit snug. The design of the dress is really nice. Maybe if you had used a fabric with a little bit of stretch and a longer sipper it would have been more comfortable to wear. Great job on both pieces.
Just like one of my most favorite parts of a Rachel Masky video is a little Frodo break. In your videos, I always look forward to a little Sagwa break. She is adorable. I love her little "grumpy" face. These turned out great! I say that as someone who knows nothing about nothing. ❤
Your videos are why I got into sewing. It's always a lot of mental gymnastics, but the end result is so satisfactory. Loved the little drawings / animations in this one! Really helped with understanding what you were talking about. Dress #1 is amazing
Around 14:56 what you called dart manipulation I think are instead called princess lines. Dart manipulation refers to the change in position of a previous dart, some pictures you showed as examples were more examples of how the princess lines can be changed, not darts.
I really like the way you aproached this video. It's not a tutorial for how to make this specific dress or do this one thing. You showed us how to go about our own projects, what steps do you need to go through. This is extremely helpfull for me. Thank you!
Those creeky floors! A classic historic Toronto building;) I love seeing your process and the trial and error. It reassures me that I’m on the right path!
wow! both dresses are really great looking! Your daughter's sweet voice when she says you're taking a picture, so cute! Thanks so much for showing us your process. I love the calmness of your videos, your editing is really, really, really great. Can't wait to see what's next. :)
I really love the first one especially AFTER YOU PUT THE TIES IT JUST ADDED THE WOW 🤩 FACTOR TO IT! YOU LOOK AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL IN IT WELL ACTUALLY YOU ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL WENDY INSIDE AND OUT THSTS WHY IM A BIG FAN AND IM 42 years young LOL I LOVE UR CHANNEL AND HOW U HAVE GROWN THANK U FOR SHARING IM GOING TO MAKE ME ONE IN BLACK AS WELL THANKS!!
I do not get around very much (as in shopping in brick&mortar places and online) as I mostly thrift but still obsess about those beautiful garments coming down those red carpets. Many of these looks that are not designed for life as most of us live it, they are designed to pose in (now I hear Madonna's "Vogue" running through my head 😆) or maybe walk a few feet down a carpet. What we do not see is celebrities going about their daily lives in those shoes and in that dress. All that being said, I love a dream being attempted and shown both for its pluses and minuses.
@withwendy your dress form has collapsible shoulders, just press them in and theyll lock in place. Same thing to unpop them. just thought itll help next time you have trouble with a top 😊😊✨
The first dress was an amazing success. The second not so much. I think you were exactly correct about the model vs you. This style will always look better on a person without a full bust. I think overall the dress needed more ease, but the biggest culprit was fabric choice. Something with more drape. We’ve all made something and realized no matter what we do, we lost the battle when we chose the fabric. Loved this video. A true source of inspiration.
ohm y gosh good job Wendy! If you ever feel like making a gown I would love to see you recreate Jeniffer Lawrences red dress. It was my first time seeing it and my gosh it is just gorgeous!
I'm assuming I already know the answer. However, I am now wondering if there is a better method when comparing pattern slash and spread to patterning using draping. Is it just a preference that would cause someone to choose one method over the other, or is there legitimate pros and cons to each and the situation or garment would dictate what method is used. 🤔🤔
This is such a great question! I'll just share some of my own experience, draping vs flat patterns each have their pros and cons, and some people's brains work better in visualizing/assembling one over the other. For the longest time I was a flat pattern girl. Pros being more efficient use of fabric (you can map out the patterns to minimize waste), easier to replicate a garment, cons being a lot of time spent on math, measurements, and drawings. As I got better at draping I would say the pros are a much more exact fit (but you need a dress form that is accurate), better anticipation of how a fabric will behave on a body with gravity at work; cons being a lot of time spent pinning and unpinning over and over. You can use draping or flat pattern to get similar outcomes, but I find as the fit of an item gets more precise, draping becomes a stronger choice!
@withwendy thank you for this thorough explanation. I have just gotten a dress form for myself, so I am excited to start working with draping. Now I am wondering, as someone who has recreated the matoshi dress. Would you suggest I use draping or flat patterning for my own recreation?
I usually skip through sponsored ads in videos but I always love watching Wendy's ads because she films them in such a genuine way and it's always so aesthetic and you can tell she actually uses the products/services. Also love the overall vibe of this video 🙌
Hi Wendy!! This is late but I hope you read this. I dream of making graphic tees with long volume sleeves. (EXAMPLE see the Loewe Cotton volume sweatshirt). It doesn’t have a shoulder seam that I can see. Plus it looks elegant even with a graphic. I don’t know how to build the structure without shoulder seams. Please share any creative knowledge if you can!!
The black dress looks great. Question, how is the neckline edged? The blue dress looks too small. Also, we wore that halter style in the 70s and it was unflattering then, too. I was a size 2 and felt fat in them. It's just not a good style.
I know this is a dumb question but, when it comes to the darts if you use a none pattern fabric can you not make the pattern with the darts where they need to be then cut it out so the fabric has no darts on, so the shapes cut in already? Does that make sense? Like all the shape would be already there. Don’t think I’m explaining this properly sorry. Hopefully someone with a brain like mine will understand what I’m saying
Wendy! (Speaking truth in love) The blue dress was made well but it was/is too small. Bespoke clothing should fit without having any trouble getting in or out.
The pale blue dress would have worked better if it was an inch or two longer I guess. Right now, it'll look better on someone really young like in their late teens or early 20s I guess.
Very cool video! Kind reminder to please only use the word meltdown if you are autistic, and the words intrusive thoughts if you actually have those, they are serious terms xx
I would love to see you sew with @theclosethistorian The dart manipulation reminds me of her videos and the chaotic sewing with the two of you would be amazing
the first one is really beautiful! I think personally I would've put darker ties like dark green or dark red or even black, maybe in a velvety fabric or something

One hundred percent agree with this. With the white lining I understand it, but I think it cheapens the overall effect.
I liked the addition of you showing celebrity photos and explaining how the technique was used in their garments (or not used as the case may be). That was a great way to get the information across.

Yess I was wondering about this too !! feels like it’s lined almost

You've grown so much as a seamstress/tailor/sewist, it's so cool to see you do these projects! I hope the next one is more to your liking!
It's so sweet to watch your sweet girl grow. The tiniest little "hello mom" 🥺

Nothing makes me as calm or as happy as your videos ❤
The rush of anxiety before every step, I feel less alone lol sewing is so scary sometimes
I love a surprise Wendy video. I'm seriously contemplating attempting making one of these.

Do it again!!! So fun to live vicariously through you making our dream designs

Except coming here for quality, creative and informative videos, I’m here for her wordplay and puns. … what a great way to end ANY day.
Please do this again! It is great to watch you work through each. I'm taking notes =).
Those creeky floors! A classic historic Toronto building;) I love seeing your process and the trial and error. It reassures me that I’m on the right path!
Wendy do you think you could make the Jennifer Lawrence dress someday? the one at 15:07? I cant even fathom how I would approach making it 😅
Enjoyed this video thoroughly 💛 Even if not the exact style/pattern, it encourages us to step out of our own comfort zones. Thank you 🌻
This is so meaningful to hear, thank you for taking a moment to share that with me!
wow! both dresses are really great looking! Your daughter's sweet voice when she says you're taking a picture, so cute! Thanks so much for showing us your process. I love the calmness of your videos, your editing is really, really, really great. Can't wait to see what's next. :)
Wendy you are next level girl amazing absolutely loved watching this one!
Great video.....I learned alot ...please keep showing how to alter patterns. You have a very pleasant voice and demeanor and way of teaching.🌷🌷
I really love the first one especially AFTER YOU PUT THE TIES IT JUST ADDED THE WOW 🤩 FACTOR TO IT! the lace on the black really takes it to another level, so beautiful! 🖤🖤I want to make one too now.
I love this series!
I’m adding this to my list of pieces to make. My daughter is an amazing artist so she will create the flowers.
Can we appreciate the shots !! So pleasing

I'm SO HAPPY you chose that mirror palais dress !!!!! I've been wanting to knock it off since I first saw it. YAY, I'll be doing this soon
Love the editing! Love the honest review of both dresses and would to see that kind of video again. Happy sewing!❤
I love how educational this episode is! So many useful techniques and phrases
didn't know your kid was already talking, too cute!
@withwendy your dress form has collapsible shoulders, just press them in and theyll lock in place. Same thing to unpop them.
just thought itll help next time you have trouble with a top 😊😊✨
One of the best videos of yours I’ve ever seen !! Been loving your recent stuff!
Please do this again!
I loved seeing a black version of that white dress so much.

2:06 the shape so reminded my of “The Little Prince”😂😂😂
You did amazing! And the red dress you were wearing in this video is so pretty!
ohm y gosh good job Wendy! If you ever feel like making a gown I would love to see you recreate Jeniffer Lawrences red dress. It was my first time seeing it and my gosh it is just gorgeous!
please do this again!! love this video idea!
more of this series plz! 😍
I really need to get back to sewing, this inspired me!!
Great job Wendy!!!
I love your kitty "helping" you! Mine does the same, but alas is not REALLY helping!! xxoo
Wow I want that black dress! I’d love it a little longer for more whimsy 😊🙌
I love your content so much!!! I wish you made more videos it’s always a good day when I see a new one from you in my subscription page!!
Well done Wendy!I am impressed!👏👏👏👏👏💐🥂
That black dress is amazing😢
THEY'RE CRAYOLA HIGHLIGHTERS!? i am so sick of my dritz pens drying up so fast, going to have to try the crayolas!
I use them for everything! Pattern drafting all the way to fabric marking, tried them once for fun and never went back lol
@@withwendydo they come out of fabric when you're making areas visible on the finished garment?
Both dresses are so cute
You are my hero !!!
cat named sagwa????? after my own heart! my childhood!
Yes again! Loved

If you’re taking in suggestions again, I would love it if you tried to pattern hack the Roo Dress from Sandy Iliang!! 👗
What a nice surprise!
i wish i was able to design clothes like these for me, too! you got a talent girl! thanks for sharing it with us :) hi from mum to mum :)
hey love your channel so fricken much
can you re-create the jennifer lawrence red cannes dress?? it was phenomenal !
Do you mind sharing where your necklaces are from? The layered choker + dangly one combo is so great?
i love your cat!

Loved this! Especially the examples for the technical details.
What is the the dress you wore making the second dress!!!! 😯
You showed a book where you can use this book and enlarge pattern block with measurements.
Love the light grey-blue color; maybe turn it into a halter top?
Great video 👍🌻🍀🌺☘🌷🌱
Hi Wendy, I’m new here. Did you go to fashion design school or something? I aspire to get to your skill level. ❤
I enjoyed the sponsored part of this video so much I forgot I was watching a sewing video. Well done I will use your code!
You need a maid for undressing from snug dresses like the 2nd one 😄
Your examples are all likely draped, but I like how you translate it to flat patterning.
Wendy! (Speaking truth in love) The blue dress was made well but it was/is too small. Bespoke clothing should fit without having any trouble getting in or out.
Omg the zipper not being long enough I've been there sooo many times hahah
Btw the hamburguer your made woow looked so delishhhh hahaha
U are ❤

Any human can have a meltdown, sincerely auhd
I don’t like when the nipples are too visible .
I would love to see you sew with @theclosethistorian
The dart manipulation reminds me of her videos and the chaotic sewing with the two of you would be amazing
Please do more of these! Love them. I’m always inspired by your content, I’m sewing now after one class. Lol
