This one is probably the box I've been most critical of so far as I just don't know where it sits. Is it too late? Is it too early? Who can say.... Only you guys can really!

I have been collecting and painting warhammer for about 34 years now. I maybe have 5 games total under my belt. I still buy all the army books for the troops I collect, and try to build a good army. Heck, I have been building a space marine army for 3 editions now and have not played 40k in 20 years. A lot of the theorycrafting is part of the fun. So I am not too worried about the army book being outdated so soon. I am interested to know how many other folks out there are like me, and don't really play, but do more theorycrafting. That said, I love the models and buy and paint them.
Same here. I have been collecting, building and painting for 7 years and only played once! The darkoath models are super interesting though. The fact that they are very modular really draws me in. I wonder how it fares against cities of sigmar set model wise
I play more often than you do but I don't buy all the books, fact is my group is still playing AoS 2nd ed... But I do have many 3r ed minatures, even started a FeC army. So I'm looking forward to playing with the free indexes for 4th ed probably for the next 9 years.
Honestly I am more of a narrative player so having these amazing models arrive now is even better! I have been waiting for the Darkoath to arrive in new plastic and move away from those sub par Old World models.
The marauder horsemen werent bad but the regular marauders definitely feel pretty dated compared to literally everything else in the army
I'm just going to mix in my old Marauders with the new ones. I'm don't like repeating sculpts in my armies. So I'm not buying any more Marauders or Horseriders unless they release even more new sculpts, which they don't tend to do.

Which one is a better set in your opinion model/ sprue wise? Cities of sigmar or darkoath? I am quite torn between these 2 as they are mirror of themselves

I'm very excited! I've wanted to get a Darkoath army since Warhammer Quest Silver Tower!!!! I feel like GW has been teasing me for the last 7 years. In my mind they won the Warcry tournament.
Ive loved the idea since i found out about darkoath, but i was late to finding out compared to you. Mine was the war queen. Just absolutely adore that model. Been putting off painting it though, as i really want to be "in the zone" when i do. Now i actually have reason to run her as a general so im psyched.

I suppose with the war scrolls and stuff it’s good for people who want to carry on playing with AoS 3 rules after AoS 4 is released.

GW is knocking the recent human models out of the park. First CoS and now this?!! Just awesome. Also I agree about the book and cards. They probably should have been left out.
Thank you for the review! I think you're spot on with the general feel of the box, which personally to me feels like there's such a thing as *too* many army boxes. Maybe not every totally new release needs a whole box to announce its arrival?
Regardless, I can imagine the Darkoath are the perfect contrast+ targets, can't wait to watch how you go about it in the tutorials!

Seems like the left hand at GW doesn't know what the right hand is doing by releasing this so close to the new edition
Can't really expect them to release nothing months before an edition, and if it had to be anything, a supplement army isn't as bad as, say, a whole new battletome
Definitively you can only take javelines or "swords", it's been like that since Fantasy.
I feel like these were meant to be released months or even years ago...
Would you be able to say how the wilderfiend compares in size to a demon prince. Feel like it could make a good alternate for the wingless version
They’re on the same sized base so theoretically it could work. It might be a little small in comparison to a Daemon Prince because the Prince has his weapon and all that stuff but I don’t think anyone would fault it!
I really want this box but I have loads of Beasts that I wanted to use in place of this set lol. Unsure!
I'm usually very calculating about which GW product I buy, what sort of gameplay does it provide, do I like, nay LOVE evert exacting detail on the model(s)? What do the alternate builds look like? Do I have the correct paints in my collection to paint it as I like? What's that you say... Chaos Marauders? In 2024?! OOoooh what's this? I've already completed the online checkout at my third party retailer of choice? Ah well! HURRY UP DELIVER ME MY PARCEL FROM THE DARK GODS, ROYAL MAIL!!111

Preordered the box almost a month ago at my FLGS. Hope GW distribution doesn't mess this up - still bitter about the original release of Cursed City.
Much needed models but still a massive shame the Nordic theme from the old marauders was dropped for a more barbaric generic style. They’re okay.

Don't disagree though I love these still, really thought GW's would explore that angle with Warcry but even that's been put to bed now 🙄
@@freshwaterspaceman7194 and warcry would have been the perfect place for these to stay if they had just redone marauders for slaves, but I guess it would have been a bit of a tease if they had just done the marauders for warcry because they likely wouldn’t complete the “range” such as the light cav or even the mammoth
