    Hey bud, I think you did a fantastic job compiling all the information and presenting in a very good way. The only critique I would give you is maybe slow your sensitivity down because the frantic movement is a little jarring especially when you're trying to highlight something. You do this circle thing and then when it cuts to something else you do it again and it just seems hectic combined with your rate of speech

    I used to use "Space Engineers Thrust Calculator" to figure out how many thrusters needed to lift the ship of any particular mass. Fun thing, I first discovered this tool when I tried to steal abandoned ship laying on the ground with only ion thrusters. So I input the mass of the ship and it said that I need 9 small atmo thrusters. And that was exactly the right amount.

      Do you only need to connect components that consume resources to containers using pipes? What about energy, batteries, reactors, buttons? I didn't quite catch how they are connected, I'm watching this on mobile as I haven't had time to get on the game and watch it on pc so I'm not zoomed it and in general I just wanna prepare for this game cuz last 2 times I was too overwhelmed with how complicated everything is to someone who's not familiar with the game

    • @DJKav
      @DJKav 7 місяців тому

      @@alexthehopeless3778 Basically yes, batteries, reactors, buttons etc connected to that grid, would provide power to the whole of that grid.
      Hydrogen thrusters would need conveyors/pipes connecting to feed them hydrogen from storage tanks.
      Also, some items won't fit/travel through the small conveyors, and only the large ones.

  • @Haladmer

    Great tutorial!
    Quick "rule of thumb" tip for mining craft, for each large cargo container, you'll want ~1.5 large thrusters/equivalent thrust for lift, barring other equipment, in 1g (9.8m/s^2) of gravity. Generally for mining craft, 2x large (lifting) thrusters are a good basis unless you go for some crazy amount of drills or more cargo containers. Thankfully, the lift/weight ratio works roughly the same for small vs large grid builds, and KSH has now normalized masses for ore, so you don't need to worry about which ore types you're planning to mine (used to be different for specific ore types)!
    Side note, if you use different inventory limit settings, SE does some "handwavium" factoring on the inventory blocks' stored mass, so the mass/lift effectively becomes percentage of total block capacity base, meaning the same amount of lift thrusters works for all inventory settings now!

    • @Zer0sLegion
      @Zer0sLegion  2 роки тому +1

      Oh wow, I didn't know that last part, I always assumed it would factor use the weight of whatever was in the container.

    • @Haladmer
      @Haladmer 2 роки тому +1

      @@Zer0sLegion I think the easiest way to explain it is the inventory setting applies a hidden modifier to the cargo containers "internal" inventory mass calculations.
      So regardless of settings, the same amount of thrust will lift the same capacity percentage amount.
      For example, if you have enough lift for a large cargo container to hold n% of it's volume at nL mass, the same ship can be used unmodified with all inventory settings as long as you maintain the same volume % of those contents.
      So if your cargo has 10k iron ore, and lets say that is 50% of the capacity on Normal settings, if you go up to the 10x setting, the ship can now lift 100k (assuming it is still 50% or less) of ore cargo capacity w/o adding thrusters, as the mass per unit vs thrust ratio is maintained by the "hidden" factor value
      TL;DR - You can see this in action by removing the cargo container/contents, and adding raw mass to the ship via blocks.
      Even though the total ship mass might be the same, the lift thrust will eventually be overcome.

    I really apreciate your video and the guide but i do have some constructive feedback for the miner the build and some optimization.
    Over all great miner but there are some things that i want to point out :
    1 . downwards thrust you dont need it unless you plan to use the remote block autopilot function ( is usually used with scripts like pam for auto mining or hauling ) in any atmosphere
    the atmospheric thruster has a limit and will descent on its own with no need for such.
    2. less connections to the drill and cargo it can all be passed up through the main connection and one small leading to the large cargo or i would suggest you add at the back of the cockpit
    a o2 / h2 generator and rout it to the large cargo ( best used for planets like alien or such where you dont have o2 )
    3. the blocks wich you used for fundation. is not a bad idea but and i suggest that a lot do not rely on them as a support is much better for miners to have all the parts linked with each other
    and armor to be used on the sides to protect your valuable thrusters in case of damage to the sides when mining ( also blast door armor and wheels are very good for that )
    4. Power consumtion . Usually your power output should never go on red ( as your ships does the moment you pressed w a and spacebar most likely ) basically in order for a ship to be usable
    you need it to dont consume over 60 % of full power ( the bar there ) when accelerating on 3 axes . so you need a bit more batteries.
    5. Type of miner ... very important vertical miners and horizontal ones. if we talk horizontal miners like yours they usually have the main power on the front so they borron and go back up on the same way ( no need to turn verticall and borrow up )
    6 gyros ... you generaly want to have more on your ship because it will get heavier and you would want to have those .... best is to keep them all and just use 50 to 30 % of the power of them when not full and you can crank it up as you begin to fill.
    7 Cameras ... is great to have a frontal camera but is neeeded to have a back one too for docking or simply going out of wholes that you dig and the 3rth person view doesnt want to work for some reason.
    8. Scripts .... and here i would say the Automatic LCD 2 .... this script for a miner is absolutely necesary if the world or server alows it it displays anything from power to how much cargo is filled to even what kind of cargo you have you must take a look.
    9. Ejectors .... those need to be implemented and set up to trow stone ( that way you mine just the ores you want ) .
    Power generation i agree small grid isnt really worth unless you have access to uranium already then yeah is a must.
    Over all is a great video i do hope i dont sound bad with this comment is not my intent to bash or to be negative is over all a great video and i would love to have this back when i started playing space engineers i do hope you keep up the good work and post more of these i like to see this to be a series and i do hope you make more ill subscribe and ill wait for more.

    Things that are not mentioned in the video;
    -How to find ore on planets (Dark spots on the ground, or ore detector being set to max range)
    -Adding more batteries will increase flight time
    -Adding pistons to the drills may help in some mining scenarios
    -Making a large grid drill ship is more efficient when you have the resources.
    -Avoid Pressing "P" and using the groups to avoid wasted power
    -Solar panels on the roof of your ship to help sustain flight, and prevent getting stranded.
    -Discussing weight of the ship as you mine more things.(more weight may cause your ship to sink due to lack of thrust)
    -Light armor vs heavy armor differences, and again, the weight consideration
    -Grouping assemblers for faster processing.

    • @Zer0sLegion
      @Zer0sLegion  2 роки тому +2

      -Didn't mention ores as it was done in the last video
      -I mean, seems obvious
      -Didn't think pistons would be relevant to building your first ship
      -True, but this is first ship, I very much doubt your first ship ever is going to be a large one. Future tutorials would have covered this
      -Pressing P doesn't really matter as you can toggle breaking on things you don't want to toggle on P and I'm pretty sure I do 100% cover using groups
      -True, if you wanted to wait a billion years for them to recharge. Part of the reason in the last video I suggested building a base near the 3 mains ores
      -Do you really need to cover this in detail, I mentioned that you need to make sure your ship can take off at max cargo, I feel like why that is is self explanatory
      -Your first ship does not need heavy armour, irrelevant to the video
      -At this point in the tutorial series, we had a basic assembler, why would I bring up anything more advanced about them, especially in a video about building your first ship.
      Hope that covers your points😊

    Yo, Mr. Zer0, I don't see this ship in the Workshop. Why the tease without the payoff? unless I've missed the link in the description... It may be just that I drank some water after midnight, and a Gremlin is loose, but there are cuts in editing of the video for your build, such that I'd have to experiment to get it right. I can't find an atmospheric miner that can go vertical nose down and get back up. Hiya, I think you posted in the discord as well so I'll repeat what I said there here: I can upload it to the workshop but it's probably better if you experiment yourself and build you own ship. @Zer0sLegion I suppose... But at those early stages, I'd recommend building the cheepest, most disposable miner possible. Or better yet, skipping the miner altogether and moving straight to a piston based mining rig. Much simpler and safer to operate. Much smaller chance of slamming into a wall at high speeds. I personally prefer to use the Path Auto Miner script to set up the low-budget version of my Crayola miner, but since this video is vanilla, I don't think that's entirely relevant.
