    Think I'd personally make the boardwalk shorter and stop it at the canal, then there's one less bridge to worry about. More room for the nice looking rocks in the area the other side of the canal.

    • @danielguerreiro8553
      @danielguerreiro8553 5 місяців тому +3

      yeah, I agree.
      I think the boardwalk is way to big, it should end before the rocky beach. And this way it will be one less bridge, and more off a view point for the boats do enter in the canal. Also would consider increasing a bit the rocky beach and a small walking access from the right side of the train line.
      Great VLOGS, and great city is on the way, congrats on the work!

      The board walk is uninteresting. This should be prime estate with a beach, huts, Venice beach boardwalk etc. Theres a tiny version so far that fit well with the basement but looks tiny in the new city. Though I appreciate you'd be working on one area for weeks in this case.

    Arent we overthinking this? Just make the road a dead end with some parking spots on the side. No bridge no problem! Same goes for the boardwalk, make it shorter. No bridge no problem! Then you’re just left with enough space to make a nice bridge for the train

    On the topic of the canal, I think you should revert your design to those low arches, and instead do 5x of them side by side with water going underneath. No need to make space for boats or anything to actually fit through. I think everyone is stuck on the idea of big wide arches & adding height, but multiple small ones will work just fine. Good luck and take some time to ponder it before reconstruction!

    • @Cardogenic
      @Cardogenic 5 місяців тому +2

      I agree I think the canal should be fed from the mountain and the area under the road, train track, and boardwalk is just for run off (theoretically controlled by dams or locks). Either the low arches or a series of pipes. Most of the arch or pipe would be below water level relieving the need for bridges. The canal would be for small tourism related boats. A river behind the campground could be made for fishing boats and jet skis with a public boat ramp.

    Hi Bricksie! I really think the train grade starting near the rocks is a great idea. Also, when I saw you making the train bridge, I was a bit confused with your brick choice. I don't fully understand how Lego trains work, but it seems like you could make the train go up only 3 blocks instead of 4 using the same arches (please try this when you expand the bridge as you will have even less space of the left side). As a final thought, I'm sure the road bridge will look much better and won't stick out like a sore thumb when the rest of the city behind also has grade changes.

  • @AidanRickard

    a huge benefit of raising the gradient of the train track earlier is that you could integrate a pedestrian walkway underneath the train track to make the boardwalk feel like less of a dead end. You could also add some small stores, and street vendors into that green area between the boardwalk and the train track to give the boardwalk more life.

    Love your Lego City. Just a few ideas. You could put in a draw bridge to allow boats, barges in. For the train you could have a raised train track section that gradually decreases as it go to the countryside and to the train station. It would allow for more vegetation. The boardwalk could have a movable section to allow boats to pass similar to ones in the Netherlands. Hope this gives you some ideas.

    I feel the train track is sitting rather high relative to its arch. I don't recall how the substructure is built, but I suspect it can be lowered by 2 plates or a brick without affecting the clearance underneath.
    I also don't think the arches need widening. I'd strongly recommend building the sides of the canal before committing to an arch-widening; I even wouldn't be surprised if they're already too wide.

    When it comes to the PAB wall, I’d consider this, if you spend an hour stacking 5 boxes, or throw the same parts in 6 or 7 boxes and spend a lot less time on it for the extra 20 or 40 bucks, how fast can you make that money back selling Minifigs or whatever. It’s a balancing act, what’s more valuable, a few extra parts or your time. Personally, I’d be throwing parts in boxes and making my money back in the time I saved instead.

    Loving the updates. I think the road grade looks fine. There are real bridges with steep slopes. Bridges are awesome the way they are, I don't think there's any value in messing with it right now. Or the train grades. Not when there's all kinds of other projects to switch to. Sometimes it's best to work on something else and then come back fresh.
    Another option on the left is to raise the rails, but then also raise the *road* on the far side of the rail line along the zoo up a brick or two. Then after crossing the tracks it drops back down. It's a bit of work and those road plates would be custom relative to the rest of the city, but then you'd have even more interesting elevation changes.

  • @DonaldWuIllustration
    @DonaldWuIllustration 5 місяців тому

    If your goal is to gradually include an incline leading into a mountain range might I suggest starting that grade from the water on. If you have extra sheets of melamine left over why not just cut them to size and just lay another sheet over the top of the table. You just have to lay the sheets around to fit where you want to canal to go. That will give you some actual elevation to work off of cause that seems to be the main struggle. You can use some of those pool table discs things to add even more height, consider it like your raised platform in your old setup, just much lower and spread out.

    Rather than extending the tran incline you could maybe lower the height of the bridge track by a brick. Keep the arch height but drop the height of the track. This would decrease the incline so the heavier trains can make it over easier and not come screaming down the other side. You might also be able to take out the flexi track pieces. Just a thought.

    2 comments about the train tracks. First, if you raise the rails between the city and beach, it would help separate the two areas. Second, I feel that you could make a minor change to the two rail lines that go through the train station. I think one line should turn and go towards the city and the other turn and go towards the amusement park. It would allow you to isolate two separate loops to have two trains running at the same time without their paths crossing.

    Great video as always! Maybe for the bridges you could sorta fake some of the elevation change also, like make the actual train track and roadway not go up quite as far, but have the sides of the bridges go up higher (like side walls). This could create the illusion of a higher bridge but allow you to actually lower the travel surfaces a bit to lessen the grades. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!

With all due respect, these bridges feel rushed. Instead of building up more, have you considered lowering the canal? Modify the woodwork of the tables and sink the canal quite a bit lower?This is going to be the ultimate city and you are going to require endless hours of content, so the fact that it is a ton of work should not matter. the bridge on the broadwalk definitely needs extending but i think the road looks fine personally , whatever you do will be super awesome dude love your videos and will continue watching everyday

    bring back the raised train line and start the incline on the long stretch and swap it where the boardwalk is. the water can then move back some and you will have alot of breathing/ creating room around the road area.

    The issue is that everything is all on the same level so things clash. In the model railway hobby with a river or canal in this case, you build down not up, you would have a cut out section for the canal below the baseboard level. There is no rush, not everything will be done and finished within 3 days, take your time and try planning. This could be so amazing and detailed not just a bunch of Lego sets on a table.

      He’s definitely worked himself into a corner by just throwing everything onto the table as quickly as possible without really thinking about layout. He almost needs to scrap it and start over. Just all seems rushed and sloppy.

    Hey Jordan, just a thought but why not move the sidewalk to the other side of the bridge that way it’s facing the canal. Not sure what your plan is with the sidewalk between the road and railroad. You don’t even need to move the bike lane, just place the sidewalk next to the bike lane. Keep up the good work!

    elevate the train track across the front of the entire city of have it elevated 1 city block back form the the water. Then make that entire road/track area a water front park area wiht bike and walkng trails

  • @juscozcustoms
    @juscozcustoms 5 місяців тому

    could you leave the train bridge sides as they are so it looks right but lower the track by one or two bricks to help with the gradient? if you put a black brick across the side of the track you probably wouldn't notice it being lower than the arch.

    Modify the bridges to be amulti span arched bridge, as suggested below. Boats don't need to fit underneath, except a kayak or canoe.

    I’d suggest getting the canal landscaped first and then adjust the bridges to suit the configuration of the canal. I think the current width of three canal is influencing comments in relation to the bridge.

    Something that might be cool since I know you like connecting things is for the canal to connect to a lake be the campground.

    half these comments you mention about being unrealistic, ignore them A: its lego doesn't need to be realistic b: its your city do what you want. C: people don't know what they are talking about they aren't civil engineers or architect. We love watching your content for you, your creativity, your scale, your building skill.

    Maybe a crazy idea, but you could build up the elevation for the front portion of the city area. It would help with the bridges and in making the canal board walks 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @jacksonstarky8288

    The drawbridge is a neat idea... but you just have nowhere to put the mechanism unless it's a structure like the lift span on the old Okanagan Lake floating bridge... and something like that is absolute overkill for a span as small as the width of the canal. Keeping the bridges basically as they are there looks great, I think, and when you have the rest of the city together to your satisfaction the canal bridges can be revisited then if you get some ideas along the way.

    It all looks great, I’d start working on the other side of the canal and if adjusting the bridges and arches is warranted at that point make the decision then!

    its wide enough as the canal will be comparable on the other side after building upgrades and elevation increase. awesome, enjoy!

    speaking of bridges, I think you should have a ped bridge farther up the canal. Maybe you're already thinking of that in the future.

    I think you’ve got carried away with what is directly in front of you, if you intend to make the canal deeper and the buildings raised up to achieve this, maybe start there and work forward. I then think the bridge height dilemma will solve itself. 👍

    The train bridge would be great if you raised the very middle track by one single stud to stop the train from having to clack off of it a bit more

    The people complaining about the bridges being too steep or the arches not being wide enough have clearly never been to Venice or Amsterdam where there is a canal going through the city and there all types of small steep bridges or narrow arches. Leave them how it is, it'll look perfect once you start working on the canal and the water isn't just a baseplate wide

  • @minnesotajones261

    I'd still "lower" the track over the canal by 1 stud tall, as it appears you have the arch level height and one more row on top of that over the canal. If you lower the track down 1, the arch is still the same and that lowers the whole grade up and down by one...

  • @ivosandbrink2224

    The grade of the bridge for the cars is realistic.....People haven't been in Amsterdam i guess. The bridges there over the canals are steep!

    Like in Venice (Italy) you could add a Venetian Gondola under the low bridge with two people on and the "gongoliere" (the sailor) jumping on the bridge. I've seen videos and photos online about it. Could be a nice addition.

    The foot bridge looks better slightly flattened out but the road is ok. The rail looks good but when your batteries are running low the train might not make it which is a shame. The rocky area in the corner is looking really good.
