  • In this VLOG I head to the LEGO store to check out the Pick-A-Brick wall! I ended up finding some pieces I desperately need for the LEGO city! In addition to checking out the LEGO store, I also discuss some changes that I could make to the city regarding the bridges connecting the ocean to the canal.

    Think I'd personally make the boardwalk shorter and stop it at the canal, then there's one less bridge to worry about. More room for the nice looking rocks in the area the other side of the canal.

    • @danielguerreiro8553
      @danielguerreiro8553 3 місяці тому +3

      yeah, I agree.
      I think the boardwalk is way to big, it should end before the rocky beach. And this way it will be one less bridge, and more off a view point for the boats do enter in the canal. Also would consider increasing a bit the rocky beach and a small walking access from the right side of the train line.
      Great VLOGS, and great city is on the way, congrats on the work!

      The board walk is uninteresting. This should be prime estate with a beach, huts, Venice beach boardwalk etc. Theres a tiny version so far that fit well with the basement but looks tiny in the new city. Though I appreciate you'd be working on one area for weeks in this case.

    Arent we overthinking this? Just make the road a dead end with some parking spots on the side. No bridge no problem! Same goes for the boardwalk, make it shorter. No bridge no problem! Then you’re just left with enough space to make a nice bridge for the train

    On the topic of the canal, I think you should revert your design to those low arches, and instead do 5x of them side by side with water going underneath. No need to make space for boats or anything to actually fit through. I think everyone is stuck on the idea of big wide arches & adding height, but multiple small ones will work just fine. Good luck and take some time to ponder it before reconstruction!

    • @Cardogenic
      @Cardogenic 3 місяці тому +2

      I agree I think the canal should be fed from the mountain and the area under the road, train track, and boardwalk is just for run off (theoretically controlled by dams or locks). Either the low arches or a series of pipes. Most of the arch or pipe would be below water level relieving the need for bridges. The canal would be for small tourism related boats. A river behind the campground could be made for fishing boats and jet skis with a public boat ramp.

      Even just putting little wall two brick high around the canal s could work to make the canal look like thay lower than the city ground level. Kinda trickery of the eye. Buy just doing it that way. Well that's what I would do. 😊

    Personally, I would consider lowering the water. Yes, It's a lot of work but would be the best solution long term. I'd also reroute the train behind the first block of bulidings so the bridges aren't so close together. Although that might not be an issue if the water was lower.

  • @davejack82

    The bridges don’t actually need to have clearance underneath them for boats. You could do them as swing bridges. I have a canal near me that has lots of swing bridges either ones that rotate to the side or ones that lift up. Doing so would mean you wouldn’t need to raise them up so high

    Hi Bricksie! I really think the train grade starting near the rocks is a great idea. Also, when I saw you making the train bridge, I was a bit confused with your brick choice. I don't fully understand how Lego trains work, but it seems like you could make the train go up only 3 blocks instead of 4 using the same arches (please try this when you expand the bridge as you will have even less space of the left side). As a final thought, I'm sure the road bridge will look much better and won't stick out like a sore thumb when the rest of the city behind also has grade changes.

    Good thing is … your city is a moving beast. Like any city. Anything can be changed and updated. Worry about the bridges later. One day, it will come to you. I keep saying it, you do great elevated trains and I’m sure you can do great elevated roadways. Where I live by the beach in New York City the trains are elevated to make it easy to get to the beach. To make it easy for the canals to reach the water. Hi Jordan,
    Love your Lego City. Just a few ideas. You could put in a draw bridge to allow boats, barges in. For the train you could have a raised train track section that gradually decreases as it go to the countryside and to the train station. It would allow for more vegetation. The boardwalk could have a movable section to allow boats to pass similar to ones in the Netherlands. Hope this gives you some ideas.

    2 comments about the train tracks. First, if you raise the rails between the city and beach, it would help separate the two areas. Second, I feel that you could make a minor change to the two rail lines that go through the train station. I think one line should turn and go towards the city and the other turn and go towards the amusement park. It would allow you to isolate two separate loops to have two trains running at the same time without their paths crossing.

    If your goal is to gradually include an incline leading into a mountain range might I suggest starting that grade from the water on. If you have extra sheets of melamine left over why not just cut them to size and just lay another sheet over the top of the table. You just have to lay the sheets around to fit where you want to canal to go. That will give you some actual elevation to work off of cause that seems to be the main struggle. You can use some of those pool table discs things to add even more height, consider it like your raised platform in your old setup, just much lower and spread out.

    What if you move the railroad tracks back a baseplate and so they run between fire station and the buildings on the back side of it and remove the street right on the ocean and then you could have an iconic skyline waterfront (keeping the boardwalk) that would be similar to several world cities. Then the first focus would be on your lovely city and not necessarily the infrastructure which (because of Lego’s strange mini figure proportions) can sometimes look clunkier than the more elegant buildings? Just an idea. Always love your great videos and the mural and city look spectacular!

    This is an amazing project you are undertaking and I enjoy watching it evolve. Having said that, I think that a city of this calibre should not have short cuts. With all due respect, these bridges feel rushed. Instead of building up more, have you considered lowering the canal? Modify the woodwork of the tables and sink the canal quite a bit lower? This is going to be the ultimate city and you are going to require endless hours of content, so the fact that it is a ton of work should not matter. Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work!

I had a thought after something you mentioned in the video basically saying you didnt have the time for this because you have so much to do, now while you have tons and tons you can do for the new city remember you dont need to rush through it there is no “end goal” with a city because when you do you have nothing else to do. Slow down take your time and every project shouldn’t be done til YOU love it and couldn’t do anything different to love it more don’t rush a project to start another if your excited about something pause things and work on that but don’t rush it. Also remember ppl talk and talk even me but at the end of the day YOU need to love it. I actually like how you have the bridge because I wouldn’t want the grade being in front of the building also the “it’s not realistic” comments forget about em you’re building your lego city not a scale model. could you leave the train bridge sides as they are so it looks right but lower the track by one or two bricks to help with the gradient? if you put a black brick across the side of the track you probably wouldn't notice it being lower than the arch.

    I love the way you create your city and implement your own ideas, that’s why I watch because of you. No need to worry about the comments picking holes in your creations.

    I think the problem is that you are looking at your city from what the size was. Your city space has quadrupled, yet you are still trying to keep everything in a small, confined space.

    Why do you need the train track to go on an incline to match the other bridges? It doesn't look realistic. You should use the bridge from set 7900 and keep the track raised up by 2-3 plate.

    Love how quickly you've incorporated the suggestions for the bridges! The height is perfect-great work. I completely agree with your ideas on widening the bridges and starting the slopes and elevations earlier. I think these changes will add even more character to the city and nicely break up the straight lines of the boardwalk. Keep up the great work and enjoy the process, mate!

    Possibly rather than increase the height of all 3 bridge arches you instead make 2 narrower arches for each bridge - same height but overall wider canal? Might look cool!?

    I think you need one of those walls in the city room. Think how easy it would be to build with all those parts easily accessible!

    You may have answered this in a different video, but could all of the mils plates have been, for instance, 2 bricks deep rather than the 1? I thought the whole point of mils, besides adding strength and the ability to move buildings easily, was so you can landscape and add depth to certain areas. If the mils plates were deeper then issues with the train line/bridge gradient would look a lot nicer perhaps as it would be sunk in more.
    However, keep up the good work, the clouds look awesome when you have the camera low down into the city 👍

    I say you should raise BOTH sides of the train hill up. Only fair to do both sides, not just one.

    All the bridge suggestions are fine and all but then it makes the placement of the firehall with that truck in an awkward position. They wouldn't exit the building on an incline.

    Only small boats should be on a canal anyway, stick 1 of your small boats there for comparison then see if it needs to be increased, if they fit leave as is, problem solved 😊 your city at the end of the day, we're just along for the ride

    instead of adding a road plate to each side you could do half a plate on each side.

    At the Lego store, did you ever ask the employees there, if you could buy one of there boxes that comes with the green plates or any other parts you need, so you would not have to repack and it would be faster for you, if they would sell a full box to you?

    The track bridge slope, simple, last raise, being two plates, not a brick, that you could do on the middle slope track section, if needed.
    And adding a plate to your track curves height, is quite possible, right?
