So we have added a Cetus Sieve on the new pond. They are great pre filters when it comes to the new Kplus Advanced Bead filters. We have been so impressed with how they are running now. Producing excellent water and amazing clarity. We didn't want to change the system but as we sell these systems its good to have one on display so we can show people.

I've been running a Cetus Sieve and K1 30 combo for a year now and am very happy with it.
Always love these videos thank you again and again!
Great video thanks
Be interesting to see the results Tim 👌
Looks good.
Great video,Kevin is awesome at the filters assembly, defo no leaks
Not a single leak!
Love the vids, keep up the great work. Dont think we ever did get an update on this vid though !!
enjoying your videos mate, very helpful and instructional
you say nice and simple but my minds blown just looking at the pipework :D
When you think about it, it’s easy. Inlet and outlet. That’s all you have to worry about .
Would love an update on this filter set up. Thanks for all the videos!
Will do, works great
I got a sieve with nexus i brought there great tho didnt keep it part of my set up as its bit big and bulky there good tho
Tim I went a step further and added a vortex in front of the sieve (to catch the bulk of the waste) then sieve to 30 " bead.
Can’t beat a vortex for waste. People just don’t have the room these days
Cetus sieves are great glad I added one to my pond skimmer and my favourite bit is only thing than can break down is the bellows which is a £30 repair
I think if they are set right the bellow should last pretty long
@@TimWaddington agree upset my mate telling him that who just spent £800 repairing his drum, replaced bellow last autumn but don’t know how old it was as second hand from one of your customers, think his pond had featured in one of your early UA-cam videos.
@@perranwilliams1263 that was one of the reasons I went for the ultrasieve 3 , very similar but bullet proof, nothing to break plus has a lid and I could fit an amalgam uv in it to.
I'm still trying to sell my old ultra sieve great bits of kit though sieves are so underrated
Like the system, will be interesting on the next one Tim, goof video, 🤪
That doitsu kohaku is stunning…..
One of the best to ever come out of Japan
Hi I need to add a non return between the pump and mpv, as if there's a power cut. the water will back siphon into the seive. Just seeing what the best way to empty the filter/pipework to do this, or is the only way to drain from the bottom plug?
Hi Tim I use a cetus sieve so water goes from bottom drain to sieve then through my nexus 220 my water is pukka I have found it a valuable piece of equipment 👍
What happens if there's lots of debris in the seive so that the water can't flow through (ie if you don't clean the seive enough)? That's my concern - or do you have a balance pipe as another option for flow? I love the idea, just concerned about cleaning obligations on the seive (about to build a big pond!).
@@missvmartin6571 the screen is around 18inches so that would be alot of debris ,the debris rolls to bottom where there is drainage hole I clean mine once a week I use the debris as fertiliser for the garden 😀 your concerns are valid but in my opinion for it to block you would have to leave it a few months for this without cleaning,
@@andyp56 do you have the balance pipe on your Cetus as shown in the EA manuals? Thanks - Vicki
@@missvmartin6571 Hi vicky no I do not have the balance pipe installed whether this is wrong I do not no(unless anybody can tell me differently)but this has been installed for 18 months now with no problems at all,I have had power cuts system has restarted without any problems the only thing I would add is the unit is quite big so you need to plan carefully
How does a balance pipe work? Surely it'll just flow through that instead of the filter?
I'd love to know what's being said in the slow motion part 😂
Tim didn't know you had a lion 🦁 growling in the video 🤣
Haha did the sound go funny? I never ever watch them before I publish
@@TimWaddington You had a good 5 minutes of slo mo when you were speaking explaining the waste off the cetus, you sounded like a lion lol
I am si glad it isn't just me that noticed it. I thought for a second that the waste had been connected to the pump going to the bead by mistake because the sound cut to just the video slo mo with the funny growling 🤣
Tim I have the sieve but not yet installed, have you gone 4” bottom drain to 3” feed into the sieve or 4” all the way through? I couldn’t make that bit out…
Great video keep them coming. 👍🏻
4” all the way into the bead. It’s a 4” inlet
Just been flicking through the manual and it says to have the pump lower than the bottom of the sieve, did they mention anything about this when EA came to install it?
We installed it. The pump is technically lower than the sieve. The sieve part is raised in the unit.
Hi Tim,
Would you be able to use this on a 2" gravity fed bottom drain ?
Thanks
You could on the 24” bead.
Hi Tim
I have come into the shop to see you a few times and was going to replicate your set up but with a 24" bead no sieve as my system is pump fed. It now says in EA website that the sieve can be pump fed is this true! If so should I get one or would a small vortex be better/ cheaper?
Thanks
Jimmy
I don’t have a bottom drain I’m pump fed on my bead?!
Did we ever get an update to this?
Yeah, I can do! It’s running great
Tim, could the sieve be connected straight from a skimmer and returned back to the pond or would you always go for a bead? I’m struggling for space which is more compact?
Bead is far more compact
Can you do a cetus off a 4" pipe to a nexus 320 please
Thought it would have been a good opportunity to fit a bypass kit.
What for? I listen to what you say but the bead has its own bypass
@@TimWaddington to reduce pressure on the pump and increase turnover, you can either turn down the pump or keep the extra flow. I thought ea would have it as an option in the future at some point, I gained 50% flow rate on my system with the same pump by just installing a bypass and using 4 swept curves instead of regular 90’s. Don’t get me wrong you need the extra space to fit it so if room is at a premium then it’s understandable. I am an engineer so when I see something minimal have such a big impact it seems a no brainer. Running the water through the tight bends of the multiport during general running adds a lot of pressure. With a bypass added you only need the multiport during cleaning.
I want to use Aqua products. But I am just curious about this GRAVITY set up - Cetus => a open k1 bio chamber =>pump => K1 bead => pond. ? Similar to what you have in this video, except the open k1 media bio chamber before the pump.
Thank you
Just have to make sure the bio chamber can take the flow.
As the sieve is pumped out, could this be placed below water level (did pick up on the 20mm). All of out kit will be below water level but need to install a pre filter of sorts prior to the bead.
It’s the level of the sieve that determines the flow over the sieve so it’s better to be the right height
@@TimWaddington Our pump room is 300mm below water level. Planning on fitting a K+ bead off 4" bottom drain. Will it still work or would we be best with another bead as a pre filter prior t K+. If the sieve is pumped then i would thought it should work if it fails it should only drop the pond by the 300mm? Many thanks
I’m kicking myself in the ass for not putting a sieve filter in my pond. My fish load is high but don’t want to get rid of any koi. This means I’m cleaning my filter media a lot. I’m definitely going to add one before my biological filter. Beautiful set up there. One question though does the bead filter contain your biological ??? Otherwise I don’t see where you have. Great video
Yes the Kplus is designed to be a bacteria filter too. Definitely a good option for you.
What is the make of pipe solvent you use?
Griffin
I wonder if you will see this message, but if you were to say Tim between choosing between a a K+ Advanced and a nexus what would you prefer? That's taking into account that for my need, I would adjust all the other component accordingly
Every pond is different. If you went the Advanced route you would really need a sieve in place before. So the room needed is similar
@@TimWaddington Whoa I didn't think I was going to get an an answer! Thank you for taking the time to reply! I went around this a lot, and for my planned pond size and flow from the DB, I think the best will be going the Advanced route... But make to my point, would you say sieve+advanced is better than nexus? You don't have to reply here, a video about it would be quite interesting.
Again thank you!
id like to book someone tom come and fit and get me set up. Locally i cant find anyone. Cant really attempt this but may have to try.
You will be sorted! The masons are on the job 🤣
Hi mate, I was wondering if you could give me some advice, I’ve got a pond in my garden with some small koi and some of them have developed white blobs on their dorsal fin and tails, do you have any idea what this could possibly be? Cheers
Possibly temperature related. Are you heated?
@@TimWaddington unfortunately not, no
@@TimWaddington I’d love to heat it but fr too expensive for an apprentice hahahahaha
@@wiwjdnd1989 if it’s white blobs and not fluffy fungus type then should be okay when temps stabilise
Does the pump not need to be below the outlet of the seive? or doesn't it matter.
No because we are pulling from the drain which is much lower
@@TimWaddington That's great thanks for the reply. I planned the same system with a shower after the bead. Then seen this video of the same setup, hopefully get it setup the weekend then. Just wanted to make sure it wouldn't cause an issue 👍
Tim - a Cetus Sieve into a bead, or a Cetus Sieve into a Nexus?
Want to get a Nexus, with a Cetus Sieve before it, but the connections seem complicated.
Thanks.
Kplus advanced
@@TimWaddington So not a Nexus then?
@@CBersPond not on a sieve combo now mate
@@TimWaddington OK, thanks.
Tim, EA website says you can’t use a cetus to k1+ on a pump fed system .. is that correct and why is that ?
To be honest they used to do a pump fed sieve, now they don’t. I don’t know why
I know people who have had Cetus overflow on a pump fed system - if you don't clean the debris out sufficiently often - and they were suggesting on an outdoor pond they had to do it twice a day in summer ... so eventually got rid of it.
@@missvmartin6571 😮 does that mean I shouldn't get one for my pump fed system? It goes through a strainer before the pump.
Do you use clay in yours pond?
No we don’t
@@TimWaddington Any reason ?
Is it just me or does tim when he talks towards the end start talking like zoul from the ghost busters there is no dana only zoul shit meself for a bit 13:17 in
So pretty much a victim of both your own success, and peoples inability to listen to the details on both set-ups.
Having a sieve as a pre-filter should definitely ease the load on the main filter, you could see straight away that it was preventing larger debris from getting to the bead.
