John Cena vs John Laurinitas following CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan is the weirdest main event choice I can remember. Especially since it was Punk who brought Big Johnny onto TV in the first place, not Cena.
3:47 - Correction! You said that Brutus Beefcake never fought Hulk Hogan in a main event while in the WWF. That is incorrect. They fought each other for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship early in Hogan's first title reign (probably the first year). The match was featured on the first of the Hulkamania videos released by Colleseum Home Video. He also fought Big John Studd, Dr. D David Schultz, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, and The Magnificent Morocco on that video. The last match on the video was the one where he won the title from The Iron Sheik in Madison Square Garden.
It does make you wonder how different the Wrestling business would be if WCW never went out on business. We certainly would’ve missed out on some great moments that happened in the WWE though.
Hulk had already teased defending the WCW title against Big Van Vader at Starrcade '94; which made the decision (Hulk's, obviously) to work with his buddy Ed even MORE frustrating; it replaced the anticipated first ever Hulk vs Vader match, which WAS Starrcade worthy as the biggest match WCW could have booked at the time...
I remember watching the buildup to the Leno/Paige and Hogan/Bischoff match with Bischoff's talk show segment and on the Tonight Show, and it was bizarre and made you wonder why the rivalry was set up.
Hulk and Roddy's WCW title match DID happen in Feb 1997 in another overbooked massive cage mess at SuperBrawl VII; with Roddy (in kayfabe obviously) spending weeks in Alcatraz (they'd "let him *in*" to the abandoned prison complex to train for a wrestling match 🤣🤣)...
Person who did not grow up watching wrestling in the '90s. Watching WCW in 2024 Marathon was such a fun while to ride At one point I was like what the heck is happening 😂
Really Sting vs Black Scorpion should've been #1. Watching that crap week to week in 1990 only to be let down by the end. I was 15 and my brother was 12 about 2 minutes into the match we both said that's Ric Flair 😂 what an absolute wet fart of a finish to the storyline.
I'm only at #8 and am sure this is on here, but Rick Steiner vs Arn Anderson & Paul E Dangerously in a Handicap Match at GAB 91. Also Taz vs Bubba Ray Dudley at ECW Hardcore Heaven 99
KISS Demon vs The Wall in a "special Main Event" (called that to fulfill the contract WCW had with KISS to use their wrestler in at least one PPV main event).
@@oshea900 The pink slip was from an episode of Raw. 1999-2000 were great years for WWF main events on PPV; it was the undercard during the Attitude Era that featured most of the bad apples...
Hulk and Brutus previously did a whole bunch of main event World title matches at house shows kn 1985 for the WWF. This was after Brutus and Greg Valentine ganged up on and injured Hulk's good buddy Hillbilly Jim.
Maybe I'm wrong and I am not remembering correctly but you said that the WWF at the height of hulkamania didn't put Brutus beefcake in a main event. If I remember correctly wasn't there a cage match where Hogan and beefcake wrestled Zeus and Randy Savage? My point isn't that you're wrong it's just that we can never underestimate the idiocy of Vince McMahon
You are remembering correctly. Hogan & Beefcake vs. Savage & Zeus took the Main Event Spot at SummerSlam 1989 and No Holds Barred-The Match/The Movie on December 12th. And the second was a "Nolds Barred Steel Cage Match".
I didn't actually see the PPV main events part I just saw the main events ever plus some of the episodes of WCW Nitro could have been classified as a PPV main event worthy
Piper knew a bit of how to play Hogan. He knew he could get Hogan to job by just letting him keep the strap. Piper never really needed the title to be over. By contrast Hogan always felt like he had to be the champion in order to get fan attention.
Hogan selling for Jay Leno of all people will forever be hilarious
Lmao true. If it's not an up and coming star then it shall be an established tv show host with no wrestling experience
@@zanethind Yeah. At least Karl Malone was a 7 ft athlete; THAT match was a month earlier, and got as much hell from fans as the Leno match would...
@tomseville2345 👍
Alternate title: 10 times that WCW WCW'd their PPV
not quite
#1 on that list is the 1995 Halloween Havoc main event!
As absurd as that Jay Leno match was, my younger self loved that moment of Kevin Eubanks looking at The Disciple and saying “Come on over!”
Dennis Rodman’s first WCW PPV appearance was actually at Bash at the Beach ‘95 in a backstage promo with Hogan and Jimmy Hart.

This video is basically the same as your “Worst Main Events” video from 11 months ago just different narrator
Good eye, I came to say this

That Mike awesome spot was nothing like the own Hart accident
That's not the point. That happened in the same arena where Owen passed away 1 year to the day.
@DragonHeart613 so what? They compared the spot to Owens. Not the same at all
Raw has had some weird main events. But PPV wise, Undertaker vs Dudley Boyz, concrete crypt match, might take the cake.
Imagine hogan telling Jay Leno that’s not gonna work for me brother 😂😂😂

Speaking about Jay Leno. He recently got injured. I hope he's alright 😢
The Kennel from Hell match should be included in a WWF version of this video
Quite a few from late 99 and early 2000 WWF.
Pink slip on a pole match being another
It wasn’t a main event

DX vs. A bunch a cheerleaders (Spirit Squad) WWE Vengeance 2006. You had RVD vs. Edge for WWE Championship on the same card

Goldberg's WCW title win over Hogan was on the Nitro six days *before* BATB '98 with the NBA star tag match...
Can you do a compare and contrast of Aew,wcw, and tna
I can’t believe Hulk Hogan and Jay Leno wrestled.
The story I always heard is hogan wouldn’t drop the belt to piper ever because piper wouldn’t do the job. No clean pins for piper.

Pipper vs hogan was incredible
This whole list is better than any Cody Rhodes match
Eye for an eye was pretty funny
Orton vs Mahal… watched that live and I raised my eyebrows so high they left a dent in my roof lol
*WCW*...why can't anyone in these comments understand the title?
@ they say during the video to mention any main event that was odd regardless of promotion lol
Half this list i disagree with
The weirdest main event I saw was Cena vs Johnny Ace
Nikki Bella's favourite two people!!
@@sandomonium9849 lol
Every triple h' main event match in history
Man Eubanks was swole dude.
Hollywood Hogan vs Brooke Shields, _Suddenly Susan._
Rodman dated Carmen Electra, not Madonna
4 words Finger Poke of Doom...that match says it all
Not a PPV match. That it happened on a Monday opposite the taped WWF Raw is what makes it legendarily disastrous for the company...
I didn't actually see the PPV main events part I just saw the main events ever plus some of the episodes of WCW Nitro could have been classified as a PPV main event worthy
RIP owen hart u are missed
So the coalition to end Hulkamania actually did end Hulkamania Hulk Hogan and Scott Hall and Kevin Nash and 60 other dudes created the New World Order
I was at the Leno match lol
please don't call eric bischoff eazy e eazy e is eric wright and he is dead
Karl Malone got a 12 year old pregnant when he was 20.
He should be in prison, not the NBA hall of fame.
Boy you guys really do exaggerate on these WCW videos. Did they do some silly stuff? Of course. But overall WCW was great, and sorely missed today.
