Karen was amazing, she lives on in the hearts and memories of her millions of fans. Richard is a musical genius as well, he deserves as much accolades and too often is not mentioned.
I was just wondering if Karen hadn't died so tragically, would Richard have been more appreciated? He's been overshadowed by her death. Even Karen has been overshadowed by her own death.
Diana Probst that’s a great question...I guess my thoughts go to whether or not Richard was more appreciated before her death or if it was the same as now?...I was very young when Karen left us (7 years old) so although I was alive while they still were creating music I’m not really sure how they were viewed back in the early 70’s when they exploded on to the scene. I remember listening to them at a really young age on the radio and much more as I grew older.
yes, herb alpert was the one who said she sounded like she was sitting in your lap, singing only to you.. her brother, richard, called her voice "PHONO-genic".... and this is what makes her one of the all time greats and in my opinion the greatest female pop voice of love and romance songs ever in that she was a VOCALIST not just a singer, and a incredible story teller of every song she sang... also i might add a unique talent of hers is that i've never heard any singer male or female with her perfect diction and enunciation...
To see you react to her the same way I do is very touching. It's unusual to see someone your age appreciating her & this kind of music. 💕💕 Actually, it's very bittersweet to watch & hear her for me...always brings a tear to my eyes. She had so much to give...to the world & to someone special in her life. Such a tragic story. 😢
"for all we know", "bless the beasts and the children", "let be me the one", "solitaire", "one love", "a place to hideaway", and so on, including the last song she ever recorded "Now"...
@tom schmitz "One Love" is my absolute favorite. An underrated song which she sings flawlessly. I also love "Goodbye to Love". She sings these beautiful arranged sad songs with so much emotion. Best female singer ever, in my humble opinion.
Kathy Stammen Hi, I didn’t know about that. Some people make a comment & really don’t intend to hurt someone. They don’t realize how much of an impact their statement can have on someone. Then there are others who do intentionally try to be hurtful, you even see it on here from time to time. You are right , she was precious with so much to offer. Even if she would have gotten out of the entertainment industry I truly wish she could have been happy & it would have had a different ending in her personal life. Stay safe out there my music loving friend ✌🏻
@@pattyyoung2103 Sadly, at the time, no one really knew *what* to do, or even that there *was* anything *to* do. :-( It's easy to look back now, knowing what we now know about eating disorders, and say "why didn't anyone do anything?" -- but unfortunately, anorexia nervosa and body dysmorphia just weren't really recognized or understood, back then; there weren't even that many doctors who had any familiarity with them. In many ways, it was her sudden death at such a young age that finally drew serious media attention to the issue, and raised awareness of them as real conditions needing proper counseling and treatment, not just a change of diet and an admonition that "you're too skinny, you need to eat more."
I love all their music. She left us to soon. This is one of my favorites. She had a voice of a angel.Did you know she also planned the drums. This was made in the early 70.
More great praise for Karen. Great reaction. You should def check our “solitaire” for a carpenters gem. If you think you were mesmerized here you will be in awe at her voice on that song. Thanks Jayvee!
The Carpenters are so talented. Karen’s gorgeous voice and Richard’s compositions…they’re musical geniuses. This song was released in 1971. They were both super talented. They sold more records than Beatles or Elvis. React to Superstar or Close To You from the Ed Sullivan Show. You’ll see Karen drumming. ❤❤🎵🎵🎤♥️
Karen had a beautiful voice and one could always understand the lyrics when she sang, which allowed one to relax and enjoy the musical story. Sings like a melancholy angel. Beautiful.
Hands down, my all-time favourite female vocalist. She makes it seem so effortless. Other female singers may bring out the bells and whistles, the vocal acrobatics, and the super high notes on full vibrato, but Karen, she just sings her heart out and makes it look easy. Her lower register has the feel of silk and the taste of honey. Her voice moves me in ways no one else does. Like many others say, when she sings, she makes it seem like she's singing only to you. RIP, Karen. You are sorely missed.
It's easy to get lost in her beautifully calming, extraordinary voice. Thank you for playing this. She's my all time favorite. (Richard deserves credit for his exemplary contributions as well.)
I'm so pleased that in 2021 this wonderfully talented and beautiful lady's voice is being appreciated..the world lost a talent when she sadly died.. if this was now she would have help and support with her illness it was just so new in the 70's.. nobody has a voice like Karen Carpenter NOBODY comes close..she was sheer perfection..i was a teen in the 70's and feel privileged to have seen them in concert..her voice live was exactly like the recordings..the saddest thing is that she really didnt believe how brilliant she was..Richard was the GOLDEN BOY and Karen always came a poor second in her mothers eyes..she was the boss of the family. .. and dominated her husband and both her children..rip to a bloody LEGEND
Bless her this is my all time favourite group love them. Please do there's a kind of hush. Or I won't last a day without you. Such a beautiful voice gone way to soon. R.I.P Karen. Wow just wow. 😊😊💖💕💖
I have been waking up every day with Carpenters song in my head, ever since you did reactions to those songs, Close To You and Yesterday Once More. This is all despite the fact that I have watched so many great song reaction videos by you since then. I'm not complaining. Hearing Karen's voice in my head is a refreshing way to start the day.
When we were kids, my sister & I would sing with her for hours. On the floor of our bedroom reading lyrics included with the album, either a special insert or printed on the back of it. She has a way of transporting you into the story of her songs 🧡
I just love Karen Carpenter. she sings like she has a tear in her voice. I feel that, that is the best description of her voice. It is like what melancholy sounds like; a teardrop. That feeling of not sure of being happy or sad. A tear in your eye of hearing something so beautiful that you cannot express it any other way except with teardrops. Her voice stirs up an emotion to something you just don't understand on how or why it exists. So pure , so innocent, so very beautiful, that is her voice.
An angel who touched the hearts of many people and forever will be irreplaceable. Miss you so much rest in peace Karen carpenter. You left this world too soon but your lovely velvety contralto voice never will. Rest in peace angel
Karen Carpenter had an amazing, soulful voice. It was a great tragedy losing her so young. Very sad. You definitely need to listen to "Goodbye to Love". Short songs were necessary for most radio stations to consider playing them back in the 60s and 70s.
You know, I love the Carpenters, especially this one "my favorite". There is time for music, such as for ddancing, for jamming, hanging out with your friends. But when you listen to the Carpenters and this voice, that is when it is time to sit back, daydream and just enjoy your life and the beautiful air/ nature all around you. Karen Carpenter makes you happy that you are alive. Such a whispery voice!

Game over again. Brilliant.
It makes me so sad that she was taken away when she was grinding back up and trying to live
When you have talent you don't need to screech at the top of your voice, the most beautiful voice ever. Such a shame she passed away so young.
