Lovely place to do a spot of radio Tim. Nice few VK contacts in the log too, those FT-891's are cracking radios, nice and small, good clear screen, the useful autoCQ included and the audio quality from them is up there with the top end modern big boys like the dx10, 7300 & 101D whenever I hear them on the bands, well ahead of the FT-857 which is always a little thin sounding in comparison. Nice to see you enjoying a bit of radio Tim. Look forward to getting you in the log again soon. 73 Jim 2E0HKM
What a beautiful location - I could just do FT8 and let the contacts roll in whilst enjoying the views :D You got some amazing contacts there, what a fantastic way to start the day. I've been too busy for radio lately, but hoping to get back on the air again soon, it really helps seeing people enjoying the hobby, makes me want to go out again. Thanks again Tim, a inspiring and lovely video. 73 Al.
Great to see you right at water's edge. Calling the world. . Wish I'd been there! A VK ! ON 14MHz You're proving the antenna, the set, the QTH by the sea, worked Such a pro ! Gosh I like seeing this. It's inspiring!
Hi tim, great to see you out again:) well you got me operating portable more now and into pota too with same antenna, battery, just need to get an 891 as my ftdx10 is blooming heavy with all the other gear.73 mate
Hi Tim just a thought did you ever test this antenna near the sea on a "magic carpet" should it make a differnce in making contacts ? I will try it myself. Just curious.
Hello Tim. Thanks for the info. I'm going to try to replicate this over the next couple of weeks. Are two alligator clips the counterpoise? Apologies if you explained it in the video. If yes, how many radials are on each clip, and what are their lengths?
Nice one Tim, you show once again if what can be achieved with salt water and the right time. Sorry I missed you, but I did work Drew g0cze most days recently. Obviously this time of the year, no propagation this far south. 73.
Tim I would love if you could make a video on the subjectiveness of giving signal reports, what metrics, systems, processes can we use to make it more objective?
Hi Tim. That video is great. Curious though, did you have any radials set out? I am looking for a whip and stake for my portable ops. Thank you in advance. Luke ki5znd
This video makes me jealous 😁 Superb location, great but simple setup and great contacts. Congratulations! this is fine ham work. The salt water boost must have helped a lot... Hopefully I should be able to do something alike during my upcoming vacation in west Brittany. Couldn't quite see how many ground radials you're using with your 1/4 wave whip, would you mind telling please?
That's a lot of wire. With my JPC-12 or my 5m whip without coil I usually lay down 8 x 2.5m of ground wire. I have 8 x 5m on my Rybakov. Next time I'll use these for the whip antennas as well. Thanks for the tip and again, congratulations. Early risers get rewarded by good propagation! (Walt does it too)
Hi Tim i'm just finished making the same antenna... And live also near the sea so could be fun!, how many radials do you use? on the ground and also floating on top of the water? Just curious. Keep up the good work!
Ah excelent - who said small verticals don't cut it ? Salt water and early morning away from noise helps of course. I was hearing Japan at the same level you were hearing Roly on this video last evening but 25 watts just was not enough to break the pile up (am I the only one to stick to the rules ?). 73 M7BLC
Awesome!, that’s my idea of portable Tim! 73 my friend
Thank you buddy!
Yeah Tim that was a lot of fun, you certainly had great signal into ZL.
Cheers
Sure was Roly! Good to work you again.
TNX for QSO & sharing Tim! What a great location!!! Pure pleasure and expectations are each morning different about DX. 👍 73,S51X/M
Great to work you Bor! You sounded super strong with your set up.
Great results there, Tim. The early start certainly paid off 👍. Must get out and try the same now that we're off for the summer.
Brilliant mate. The difference in propagation at the same time is staggering. I didnt hear any VK's and they are 9+ with you.
Thanks buddy

Thanks Jim - yes its been a good workhorse and I would replace it if I had to like a shot.
great selection of DX Tim, well worth getting up early for mate and beautiful location. 🙂
Great fun Duncan - just the early start though LOL
@timg5tm941 that's my issue sometimes especially if works been tough, sometimes you just need a late rise.
That looks a brill location Tim, thanks for sharing.
Thanks! It was good fun and the weather helped!
always good to watch your films, good luck.
Thank you Brian!
Amazing performance there Tim. Congratulations
@@jollyfinequality9865 thanks!
Nice work Tim, some great DX there. I’ve worked portable from that very location in the past, 73s buddy!
Ah nice one!
Well done Tim. Way to go!🇨🇮
Thank you!
Not bad at all! I wish I had the enthusiasm to get up and out that early! ;-)

Such a pro ! Gosh I like seeing this. It's inspiring!
Thank you Peter 73!
Pardon my ignorance, can you explain the black and red crocodile clips and leads please.
@@union310 sure, I used old dc leads to act as a connector for the ground radials, croc clips are easy to attach to the ground of the antenna mount.
@@timg5tm941 How do you decide the length of the radials? Is there a benefit to using them on say a vertical antenna mounted on a pole on a garage
Hi tim, great to see you out again:) well you got me operating portable more now and into pota too with same antenna, battery, just need to get an 891 as my ftdx10 is blooming heavy with all the other gear.73 mate
You know it makes sense.
Hi Tim just a thought did you ever test this antenna near the sea on a "magic carpet" should it make a differnce in making contacts ? I will try it myself. Just curious.
No not yet but its on a long list of projects to try for sure.
Greetings Tim, once more sorry I missed you, I have however bought a 101-mp...great radio....Take care good Sir
Nice radio! Now I am jealous!
What a great spot to play radio. I’ve got plenty of freshwater nearby, but unfortunately no salt water.
Nice one Tim 👍👍
Thank you!

They are indeed. Each have 5 x 3m of radials. Just about ok for 20 and up. 73
I need to get to the beach one day with my little G90, looks great 👍🏖️
Do it!

Interesting topic. I will consider it.
Great stuff Tim..
Hard to be a simple setup on a good coastal ground.
Cheers Dave - good fun mate!
This is what it's all about 🍻
Thank you John!
Well done Tim. A few familiar voices in your log and DX call signs.
I thought you would recognise them mate!
Hi Tim. That video is great. Curious though, did you have any radials set out? I am looking for a whip and stake for my portable ops. Thank you in advance. Luke ki5znd
Hi Luke, thank you. Yes I had four bunches of 2.5m long radials so 40m in total.
@@timg5tm941 ok. Ty
Awesome, Tim. Was that a metal telescopic whip you were using?
Yes it was a MRQ213 from Moonraker Radio.

The antenna was about 15-20m from the sea so on the sand is fine. About 40m of radials were used. 73!
